Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts was founded in 1949. Its predecessor was the Second Branch of Northwest People's Art Institute. In July 1949, it moved from Linfen, Shanxi to Chang'an County, Xi'an, and was renamed the Art College of Northwest Military and Political University.
