Hainan Vocational College of Foreign Languages is located in Wenchang City, China's first coastal satellite launch base. Founded in 1947, it is a public full-time foreign language higher vocational college approved by the Hainan Provincial Government and registered with the Ministry of Education. It is also the university with the most foreign languages and the most complete foreign language majors in Hainan Province. In 2012, it became the second provincial and municipal co-constructed university in the province, and in 2018 it became a provincial-level high-quality vocational college approved by the Hainan Provincial Department of Education. The college has a planned land area of more than 650 acres and excellent teaching conditions. It has more than 50 on-campus training rooms and more than 30 off-campus internship and training bases across the country. It has the Hainan Branch of the National Institute of Vocational Education, the Hainan Social Science Popularization Demonstration Base-ASEAN Language and Culture Popularization Demonstration Base, the National Open University (Hainan) Wenchang Branch, the Hainan English and Japanese Application Research Association, and the Hainan Applied Foreign Language Research Base. The college currently offers 20 foreign languages, including English, Japanese, Korean, Russian, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Thai, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Arabic, Burmese, Cambodian, Malay, Lao, Croatian, Romanian and Bulgarian, covering more than 30 majors, including foreign languages, international trade, international tourism, education, and art. Each language major is cultivated in the "foreign language + occupation" mode, forming a "one body, two wings, and one upgrade" professional talent training pattern with foreign language majors as the main body, trade and tourism service majors as the two wings, and humanities and arts majors as supplements, and the special foreign language school-running advantages of each language major directly connecting to international studies, actively serving the country's "Belt and Road" and Hainan Free Trade Port construction, benchmarking the needs of Hainan's twelve key industries, and providing applied foreign language talent reserves and service-oriented talent guarantees for national and local development. The college currently has more than 400 faculty members, including more than 30 foreign teachers. It has introduced a group of influential foreign language teaching experts, returned overseas talents, and senior experts in the commerce and tourism industry to teach at the school. It has trained a group of provincial-level famous teachers and backbone teachers, and has also hired a large number of visiting professors from domestic and foreign universities and research institutions and experts from the industry and enterprises. The college insists on in-depth cooperation with high-end enterprises at home and abroad, and implements order-based joint training of high-quality skilled talents in foreign languages (education), tourism, commerce and art to ensure high-quality employment for students. The year-end employment rate of students reaches more than 95%. The employment fields involve education, commerce, finance, tourism, hotels, logistics, transportation, culture, IT, real estate, public services and other industries. Every year, a group of graduates go to Singapore, Maldives, Japan and other countries (territories) for employment. The college attaches great importance to foreign cooperation and exchanges in talent training, actively deepens educational exchanges and cooperation with countries along the "Belt and Road", and continues to expand the scale of foreign teachers and international students. The college has established cooperative relations with more than 40 universities and institutions in the United Kingdom, the United States, Russia, Japan, South Korea, Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Malaysia, Indonesia, Switzerland, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and other countries, as well as Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and actively implemented various projects to provide students of 20 languages in the college with various learning and exchange opportunities such as Sino-foreign joint training, short-term exchanges abroad, paid internships, summer social practice in the United States, study tours in the United States, and international studies from junior college to undergraduate, and built a broad platform for studying abroad. The college cooperates with well-known domestic universities such as Beijing Foreign Studies University, Beijing Foreign Studies University, Shanghai International Studies University, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, and Guangxi Minzu University to enhance the comprehensive strength of school operation. Deepen inter-school collaboration with schools in the province such as Ocean University, Ocean University of China, Rehai University, and Provincial Tourism School to build a "secondary and higher vocational undergraduate" and "integrated junior college and undergraduate" talent training system. The college insists on quality development, strives to improve the quality of talent training, and serves the construction of Hainan Free Trade Port. For a long time, college students have repeatedly achieved good results in various translation, speech, skills, and sports competitions at all levels. In the past five years, the school has won more than 60 national awards (including 2 national special prizes and 4 first prizes) and more than 300 provincial awards. Students actively participated in volunteer service activities at various international events such as the Beijing Olympics, the Shanghai World Expo, and the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference, and have won wide acclaim from all walks of life. From 2020 to date, more than 100 students of the college have obtained bachelor's degrees, and more than 10 outstanding graduates have been admitted to master's programs in higher education institutions in countries or regions such as Thailand and Russia, fulfilling their undergraduate and graduate dreams. Hainan College of Foreign Studies is located in Wenchang City, the biggest Satellite Launch Center in China. It provides the biggest number of foreign languages and offers education at different majors of foreign languages in Hainan Province. The college mainly focuses on cultivating the practical talents involving Foreign Languages, Business Trade, Tourism, Art and so on.The college has cultivated a large number of highly qualified and practical talents for the society in the past years.The college has more than 400 full-time and part-time teachers, including 77 professors and associate professors and more than 30 foreign teachers speaking over a dozen of different languages. The teachers here are of miscellaneous backgrounds, ranging from specialists on foreign language education to overseas returnees, from experts on affairs of international trade and tourism services to holders of such titles as “Model Teacher” and “Mainstay Teacher” and from “Guest Professors” hired from either other institutions of higher education or research institutions to business people and line managers of enterprises. The college has established cooperative ties with nearly one hundred well-reputed enterprises in and out of Hainan by entering into “order training” agreement with them. With an average employment rate of as high as 95%, graduates from HNCFS are well-received in national cooperation. It has signed agreements with more than 40 foreign universities, colleges and companies for cooperation on such matters as educational programs and course development, exchange of international students and teachers, continued education and paid trainees etc. HNCFS accepts international students from a variety of countries such as, among others, Canada, Japan, Korea, Russia, Thailand and Denmark. All-round development of students is highly valued at HNCFS. Students here are not only doing well in language study, but also in all kinds of extracurricular activities. In the past 5 years, students of HNCFS won more than 300 provincial level prizes and more than 60 national level prizes in all kinds of competitions, such as translating contests, English speech contests, language application skill contests, singing contests and sports contests etc. What's more, the college also encourages students to take part in social practice. For instance, the art ensemble and etiquette team, both students' organizations, often take trips to Hong Kong for friendship promoting programs while many others are frequently seen volunteering at the venues of important international events, such as 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, Shanghai World Expo 2010 and the annual session of Bo'ao Forum for Asia held in Bo'ao, Hainan. Wherever they are, their deeds are highly acclaimed by people from all walks of life. Today, taking advantage of the favorable opportunities brought about by China's “One Belt, One Road” initiative and Construction of Hainan Free Trade Port, HNCFS is now in the process of making double efforts to press ahead with its internal reform with a view to improving graduates' quality while following a path of “development through international cooperation and soft power strengthening”.
