Guangzhou Vocational College of Engineering and Technology is a comprehensive higher vocational school with advanced manufacturing, petrochemical and information majors as the main subjects, and coordinated development of economics, management, business and trade. Formerly known as Guangzhou Amateur Industrial Technology College, it was approved by the People's Government of Guangdong Province in 1964 and jointly organized by the Guangzhou Federation of Trade Unions and the Guangzhou Association for Science and Technology; in 1973, it was renamed Guangzhou Amateur Technology College; in 1983, it was renamed Guangzhou Workers Amateur University; in 1995, it was renamed Guangzhou Workers University; in 2004, it was restructured into Guangzhou Vocational College of Engineering and Technology (hereinafter referred to as the school). It has successively won the first batch of "Education Informatization Pilot Schools" of the Ministry of Education, the first batch of "Vocational College Digital Campus Construction Experimental Schools" of the country, and the National Higher Vocational College Management and Service Standardization Pilot Unit, Guangdong Vocational College Skills Competition Special Contribution Award, Guangzhou City The First Vocational Skills Competition of the People's Republic of China Outstanding Contribution Unit, Guangdong Province Green School. In 2022, it was selected as a cultivation and construction unit of the Guangdong Provincial High-level Vocational College Construction Plan; in 2023, it was selected as a construction unit of the Guangdong Provincial Higher Vocational Education Digital Benchmarking School. The university currently has five campuses in Huanshidong, Conghua, Huangpu, Longdong and Dongchuan, and hosts Guangzhou Federation of Trade Unions Foreign Language Vocational School and Guangzhou Conghua District Senior Technical School. The university has nine colleges, including the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the School of Information Engineering, the School of Petrochemical Engineering, the School of Finance and Management, the School of Foreign Languages and Business, the School of Catering and Tourism, the School of Art and Design, the School of Continuing Education and the School of Marxism. It offers 28 majors that are closely aligned with the industrial structure and social development needs of the Pearl River Delta region, with nearly 10,000 full-time students. The school adheres to the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, takes moral education as its fundamental task, firmly establishes the strategic idea of "establishing a school with quality, developing a school with characteristics, and strengthening a school with talents", adheres to the school-running idea of "one group and three transformations" (vocational education group, coordination, informatization, and internationalization), and adheres to the school motto of "establishing character, learning, endowing art, and honing oneself". It is based in Guangzhou, faces Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, and radiates across the country. It is closely connected with green petrochemicals, intelligent equipment manufacturing, modern service industries, and a new generation of information technology industries. It adheres to the integration of production and education, school-enterprise cooperation, and continuously deepens the connotation construction, and strives to cultivate high-quality technical and skilled talents with comprehensive development of morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics, and labor. The school adheres to the principle of "surviving by characteristics and seeking development by brands", implements the "four ones" teaching strategy of "one college, one brand, one specialty, one excellent course, and one specialty for one life", and focuses on connotation construction and characteristic development. There are 4 national key majors, 2 majors with central financial support for professional service industry development capabilities, 1 national professional teaching resource library (Business English), 9 provincial brand majors, 3 key majors, and 5 provincial high-level professional groups. The number of provincial brand majors and the number of high-level professional groups approved are both among the top in the province. Five pilot majors for collaborative education between higher vocational colleges and undergraduate colleges were approved. Participated in the construction of a national vocational education industrial robot technology professional teaching resource library, 3 national planning textbooks for vocational education, 4 provincial planning textbooks, won the first national vocational education and continuing education excellent textbook award, 7 provincial boutique online open courses, and 1 Guangdong Province college employment and entrepreneurship gold course. The school adheres to the integration of production and education, school-enterprise cooperation, and promotes the reform of talent training mode. The catering intelligent management major successfully passed the pilot acceptance of the modern apprenticeship system of the Ministry of Education. It has co-built a national-level talent training center for industrial robot applications with ABB (China) Co., Ltd. and has been selected as a cooperative college for the Ministry of Education's project to build a talent training base for Sino-foreign cultural exchanges in the field of intelligent manufacturing. It has one central government-supported training base, two national-level productive training bases, one specialized and new industry college, one industry-education integration demonstration base, two provincial-level public training centers, one collaborative education platform, and one provincial-level "Cantonese chef training base". It has co-built 16 provincial-level on-campus and off-campus practical teaching bases with leading industry companies such as Sinopec, and eight municipal-level industry colleges, specialty colleges, and industry-education integration demonstration colleges. It has taken the lead in establishing the Guangzhou Engineering Vocational and Workers Education Group. The school is a "Guangzhou Intellectual Property Pilot School". In recent years, the school has actively carried out industry-university-research cooperation with enterprises and scientific research institutes, built an applied technology research and development platform, and built 8 scientific research platforms at or above the school level, including 1 provincial engineering technology development center, 2 provincial industry-education integration innovation platforms, 1 municipal scientific research cooperation base, and 4 school-level applied technology collaborative innovation centers; 5 scientific research innovation teams at or above the school level have been established, including 2 provincial scientific research innovation teams, 1 municipal scientific research innovation team, and 2 school-level scientific research innovation teams; 1 National Social Science Fund Project, 2 Humanities and Social Sciences Projects of the Ministry of Education, and more than 60 provincial projects of various types. In 2023, it was selected into the "Top 200 Invention Patent Authorizations of Vocational Colleges" in China and ranked 75th. In the "2023 China Vocational Colleges Scientific Research and Social Service Competitiveness Ranking" released by a third party, our school ranked 211th, successfully entering the top 30% of China's higher vocational colleges in scientific research and social service competitiveness in 2023. It has undertaken high-level scientific research projects such as the National Social Science Fund and published a number of influential teaching and research papers. The school has a well-structured, high-quality, and high-quality teaching team led by "famous teachers + famous craftsmen". It has successively established Scania Industrial College with Scania Co., Ltd. of Sweden, and jointly carried out one Sino-foreign cooperative education project and three credit recognition projects with the South Australian Institute of Technical and Continuing Education (TAFESA), the University of Huddersfield, and the University of Middlesex. It has sent 26 groups of teachers and students abroad for study and exchange.
