Nanjing Mechanical and Electrical Vocational and Technical College was established in April 2006 with the approval of the provincial and municipal governments and registered with the Ministry of Education. It is a municipal public higher vocational college. The current organizer is Nanjing Mechanical and Electrical Industry (Group) Corporation. The school currently has 317 faculty and staff and more than 8,100 full-time students. The school has six secondary departments, including the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the Department of Electronic Engineering, the Department of Information Engineering, the Department of Automation Engineering, the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, and the School of Continuing Education. It currently offers 23 majors, covering multiple professional fields such as machinery, electronics, computers, art design, communications, the Internet of Things, and accounting. During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, the school's professional construction capabilities continued to increase. New majors such as intelligent control technology, financial technology application, satellite communication and navigation technology were opened; the mechanical design and manufacturing professional group was approved as a "provincial high-level professional group"; 14 projects were approved as "key construction projects of municipal universities in the 14th Five-Year Plan"; 5 provincial and above key construction and planning textbooks, 1 provincial vocational experience center, 1 provincial field engineer special training project, 1 provincial "double-qualified" famous teacher studio, 9 outstanding young backbone teachers of the provincial college "Qinglan Project", 3 provincial industry professors, and 6 technical experts in Jiangsu Province; won the first prize in the higher vocational group of the National Vocational College Skills Competition, the first prize in the Jiangsu Vocational College Teaching Ability Competition, the silver and bronze medals of the Jiangsu Skills Competition, and the second prize of Jiangsu Teaching Achievements. In order to further stimulate the entrepreneurial and innovative vitality of teachers and students throughout the school and further promote "mass entrepreneurship and innovation", in January 2015, the school took the lead in building the first "maker campus" in China and vigorously developed the "Landao Maker Space" that integrates creativity, design, and manufacturing. The space construction is based on the purpose of "innovation, practice, sharing, and growth", relying on the resources of the whole school and taking scientific and technological innovation activities as the carrier, gathering maker talents, achieving creative inspiration, sharing innovative results, focusing on cutting-edge technologies such as intelligent manufacturing and 3D printing, and conducting in-depth research on key technologies and maker education theory. The school focuses on innovation, talent training, and actively explores a new talent training model that integrates maker education and vocational education. It has systematically designed a "54333" maker education system for vocational education, namely, "platform + major + course + mentor + activity" 5 basic guarantees, "academic performance + comprehensive quality + mental health + maker activities" 4-dimensional comprehensive evaluation, "maker project course + maker education special course + maker-style curriculum reform course" 3 types of course teaching, "maker project + competition project + fund project" 3-level project incubation, "company + business unit + studio" 3 types of subject practice, revising talent training plans, formulating maker course standards, and developing maker project courses, and strives to cultivate innovative technical and skilled talents through innovative thinking training, innovative tool use, and innovative ability training. Blue Island Maker Space is now a member of the China Maker Space Alliance, a member of the China Maker Alliance, a director of the China Maker Education Base Alliance, an executive director of the Nanjing Maker Space Alliance, an Intel partner, and a member of the Haier Maker Lab. It has been listed as a provincial, municipal, and district maker space by the Provincial Department of Science and Technology, the Municipal Science and Technology Commission, and the District Science and Technology Bureau. The school's patent applications and authorizations have ranked among the top three higher vocational colleges in the province for four consecutive years, and it has been rated as an "Advanced Collective of Intellectual Property Work in Jiangsu Province" and a "Science Popularization Demonstration Base" at the municipal, provincial, and national levels. On January 17, 2024, the "Nanjing" and the National Youth Science Popularization Satellite (August 1-08), which was fully developed by our teachers and students, were successfully launched on the Tianzhou spacecraft (the only one in vocational colleges nationwide). The successful launch of the "Nanjing" is an important milestone in our school's promotion of high-quality development, and it demonstrates our school's latest achievements in talent training and youth science popularization education at a high level. The school has been successfully approved as the Jiangsu Aerospace Equipment Intelligent Manufacturing Technology Virtual Simulation Training Base. The school has always adhered to the principle of "based on enterprises, facing the industry, and serving the society", with the goal of cultivating innovative technical and skilled talents who are "satisfied by enterprises, society, students, and parents", actively promoting school-enterprise cooperation, and continuously deepening the integration of production and education. It has established a school-enterprise cooperation mechanism of "layered construction and classified training", and has carried out "modern apprenticeship system", "order-based", and "embedded" talent training with 68 enterprises including Zhejiang Huawei, ZTE Software, Nanjing Iron and Steel Group, and Connie Electromechanical, and has cooperated with Nanjing Iron and Steel Group to promote the training of on-site engineers. The school was donated 25.21 million yuan of world-leading intelligent experimental training equipment from Rockwell, and jointly established the "Rockwell Intelligent Manufacturing Collaborative Innovation Center" with Dalian Lithium Technology Co., Ltd.; co-built a modern industrial college with four well-known companies including Shenzhen DJI, Shenzhen Huawei, Jiangsu Zhilian, and Chenglian Technology; co-built a demonstration employee training base in East China with Shanghai Mitsubishi Corporation, and jointly applied for the Jiangsu Vocational Education Modern Industrial College; co-built a "Teacher Enterprise Mobile Workstation" with seven companies including Zhejiang Dahua, Connie Electric, and Skyworth Electric, and successfully applied for and was approved as a "Jiangsu Province Industry-Education Integration Pilot Enterprise" with Zhongyoujian, Nanjing Guansheng, and Nanjing Dongrun. After moving to Gaochun, the school has always adhered to the concept of "taking root in Gaochun and serving Gaochun" and continuously strengthened school-local cooperation. The school took the lead in establishing the Gaochun Vocational Education Group to create a new highland for the development of regional vocational education; signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Gaochun Medical Device Industry Association, Nanjing Computer Society, and Jiangsu Biomedical Engineering Society, and built a "College Student Employment and Entrepreneurship Internship Training Base" with 8 leading enterprises; implemented the "Skill Revitalization Action" for employees in enterprises, signed a "Production and Talent Integration" training agreement with 18 enterprises in Gaochun District, and assisted nearly 20 enterprises to successfully apply for the independent certification of enterprise professional skill levels, and has trained and certified 1,680 people; carried out training for retired soldiers and government subsidies, with a total of 11,232 people trained. The school was listed as a candidate unit for the public training base for high-skilled talents in Nanjing, and developed 7 new job training projects for the Nanjing Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau, with a total of 14,362 people trained. The number of new job development and training people ranked first in the city. Over the years, the school has trained more than 40,000 junior college graduates, of which more than 60% of graduates are employed in local enterprises in Nanjing. More than 170,000 people have been trained and certified for professional skills for enterprises in Nanjing. The employment rate of graduates has always remained above 96%. The income of graduates six months after graduation ranks first among higher vocational colleges in the province. The satisfaction of graduates with employment, their own development, and their alma mater has increased year by year.
