The school was founded in 1951. It is a famous university with outstanding engineering advantages and distinct industry characteristics. It is a key university in Shandong Province that cultivates applied basic talents and a high-level university that is "rushing to the first-class" construction university with mutual penetration and coordinated development of multiple disciplines such as engineering, science, management, literature, law, economics, and art. It has schools in Qingdao, Tai'an, and Jinan, with a total area of more than 3,500 acres, a building area of 1.55 million square meters, a total fixed asset value of 4.2 billion yuan, and a total value of teaching and scientific research equipment of 984 million yuan. The school has 34 teaching units and 5 scientific research units. There are 15 provincial first-class undergraduate professional construction sites, 18 brand-featured majors, 9 high-level application-oriented project construction professional groups, 5 education services for the transformation of new and old kinetic energy professional docking industry projects, 75 first-class undergraduate courses, 18 course ideological and political demonstration courses, 58 high-quality courses, 141 teaching achievement awards, 1 course ideological and political teaching research demonstration center, 5 experimental teaching demonstration centers, 2 talent training model innovation experimental zones, and 1 public training base for the transformation of new and old kinetic energy industry (special). Since the 13th Five-Year Plan, the school has undertaken more than 700 national scientific research projects and more than 1,200 provincial and ministerial projects. It has won more than 300 scientific research awards at the provincial and ministerial levels, including two second prizes for national scientific and technological progress and two second prizes for national technological inventions. More than 2,800 national invention patents have been authorized. "Journal of Shandong University of Science and Technology (Natural Science Edition)" is a national core Chinese journal and a Chinese science and technology core journal.
