Changsha University of Science and Technology is a multidisciplinary university with engineering as its main discipline, coordinated development of engineering, science, management, economics, literature, law, philosophy, art, and cross-disciplinary disciplines, undergraduate and graduate education as its main body, and with postdoctoral research mobile stations, doctoral degree awarding rights, and master's degree recommendation rights. The school is a national advanced grassroots party organization, a university in the national "Basic Capacity Building Project for Colleges and Universities in Central and Western China", one of the top 50 national "Innovation and Entrepreneurship Typical Experience Universities", Hunan Province's "Domestic First-Class University Construction University" (Class A), Hunan Province Civilized Model Unit, and Hunan Province's Model School of Rule of Law. The school currently has two campuses, Jinpenling and Yuntang, with 22 teaching colleges, 1 independent college, and 1 continuing education college. There are more than 48,000 students (including more than 7,000 students at Chengnan College), including more than 9,000 master and doctoral students. Since its establishment, it has trained more than 500,000 senior professionals for industries such as transportation, electricity, water conservancy, light industry, and regional economic and social development. The employment quality and employment rate of graduates have remained at the forefront of colleges and universities in the province for many years. After more than 60 years of construction and development, the school has accumulated the school motto spirit and university culture of "erudition, practice, adherence to the truth, and innovation". The school currently has more than 2,100 full-time teachers, including more than 300 senior professional titles and more than 600 associate senior professional titles. There are more than 30 national talents such as academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and distinguished professors of the "Changjiang Scholars Program"; more than 30 experts who enjoy special government allowances from the State Council, young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions to the country, and national teaching masters; 2 "National Huang Danian-style Teacher Teams in Colleges and Universities"; more than 400 provincial and ministerial talents such as young talents in propaganda, ideology and culture of the Central Propaganda Department, candidates of the "New Century Excellent Talents Support Program" of the Ministry of Education, "Young Transportation Science and Technology Talents" of the Ministry of Transport, and Hunan Province Science and Technology Leading Talents, "Furong Scholars". The school currently has 86 undergraduate majors, including 43 national first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 9 national characteristic majors, 18 majors that have passed the national engineering education professional certification, and 3 Sino-foreign cooperative undergraduate education projects. It has 3 national and provincial teaching teams, 17 national first-class undergraduate courses, 101 provincial first-class undergraduate courses, and 3 national and provincial ideological and political demonstration courses. There are 12 national practical teaching platforms and 65 provincial practical teaching and innovation education platforms. The school is a pilot school for the "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program" and an implementation school for the "Undergraduate Innovative Experimental Program" project of the Ministry of Education. Since 2018, the school has won 58 provincial teaching achievement awards; students have won more than 1,600 national-level discipline competitions and scientific and technological achievement awards, and more than 3,900 provincial-level discipline competitions and scientific and technological achievement awards. It ranks 13th in the country in the 2022 National College Student Competition Ranking (Undergraduate). The school has 6 "world-class cultivation disciplines" and "14th Five-Year Plan" key disciplines in Hunan Province, 1 advantageous and distinctive discipline group, and 6 disciplines are in the top 1% of the ESI global ranking. There are 5 postdoctoral research stations, 8 first-level doctoral degree authorization points, 1 doctoral professional degree authorization point, 30 first-level master's degree authorization points, 18 master's professional degree authorization points, and the school is qualified to award master's degrees of equivalent academic qualifications. The school has successively won landmark scientific research achievements such as the first prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award. There are 5 national scientific research platforms, 15 provincial and ministerial innovation teams, 54 natural science research platforms, and 22 philosophy and social science research bases. Since 2018, the school has hosted 645 national projects such as the National Key Basic Research and Development Program Project, the National Major Scientific Research Instrument Development Project, and the National Social Science Fund Major Project; won 3 national science and technology awards, 1 Guangzhao Science and Technology Award, 79 provincial and ministerial science and technology awards, 19 provincial social science outstanding achievement awards, and 1,750 job invention patents. The university adheres to the principle of open education and has established exchanges and cooperation with more than 90 colleges and universities and scientific research institutions in more than 30 countries and regions. It has cooperated with the University of Liberia, the University of Montenegro, and the University of Sabah to build three Confucius Institutes. In recent years, it has sent more than 1,000 students abroad for exchanges and studies.
