Jilin Art Institute is the only comprehensive higher art college in Northeast China. The predecessor of the college was founded in 1946 as the Luxun Academy of Literature and Art of Northeastern University. In 1958, Jilin Art College was established. In 1978, it was renamed Jilin Art Institute. In 1993, it obtained the right to confer master's degrees. In 1995, it became one of the first colleges in Jilin Province with provincial key disciplines. In 2020, it became a high-level university with characteristics in Jilin Province. The college is located in a prosperous area in the city center with unique advantages. It has four campuses: performance, modeling, comprehensive, and urban. It has 13 teaching units including the Conservatory of Music, the Academy of Fine Arts, the Academy of Design, the Academy of Drama and Film, the Academy of Dance, the Academy of New Media, the Academy of Animation, the Academy of Art Education, the Academy of Art Management, the Academy of Popular Music, the Academy of Chinese Opera, the Changchun Film Academy, and the affiliated secondary vocational schools. There are 9,046 full-time students, including 1,275 master's students and 7,771 undergraduates. The school-running function of the college, "a cradle for cultivating talents, a base for inheriting culture, a source of artistic innovation, and a window for guiding aesthetics", is becoming increasingly prominent. The college upholds tradition, promotes advantages, follows the rules of higher education in the arts, actively implements the "Teaching Quality Improvement Project" and the "Innovative Art Talent Cultivation Project", and has established the concept of "project-driven teaching, scientific research deepening teaching, exhibitions and performances promoting teaching, and practice testing teaching", and strives to cultivate high-quality application-oriented and innovative art talents. There are 6 national scientific research and creation platforms, including the Winter Olympics Culture and Art Creation Center, the Ministry of Education Sino-Russian College Art Exchange Base, the Sino-Russian Art College Alliance, the Ministry of Education National General College Chinese Excellent Traditional Culture Inheritance Base, the China Television Association Documentary Research Center and the Dynamic Image Visual Art Creation and Research Base; 17 provincial scientific research platforms, including 1 provincial social science key field research base, 3 provincial college humanities and social science key research bases, 2 provincial key laboratories, 3 provincial college engineering research centers, 2 provincial collaborative innovation centers, 1 Jilin characteristic new college think tank, 1 Jilin Opera Education Research Base, 2 provincial colleges Chinese Excellent Traditional Culture Inheritance Base, 1 Jilin Intangible Cultural Heritage Research and Training Base, and 1 Jilin Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism Co-construction Research Center. The overall construction level of the college's art disciplines and majors is in a leading position in the province, and the number of national first-class majors, provincial first-class disciplines, and scientific research and creation platforms above the provincial level are all among the top in domestic local art colleges. The college has a strong faculty, with 824 faculty members, including 554 full-time teachers, 226 associate senior titles and above, including 12 second-level professors; more than 100 visiting professors and part-time professors from home and abroad. There is one expert enjoying the special government allowance of the State Council, one national outstanding teacher, one "leading talent in humanities and social sciences" of the Changbai Mountain Talent Project, one "young top talent" of the Baishan Talent Project, 11 people enjoying provincial government subsidies (experts with outstanding contributions in the province), 13 provincial top innovative talents, 4 Changbai Mountain skilled teachers, 3 provincial outstanding teachers, 4 provincial teaching teachers, and 10 Jilin Province Arts and Crafts Masters. The school designed and produced the mascot "Shuey Rhon Rhon" for the 2022 Beijing Paralympic Winter Games, which was highly praised by the International Olympic Committee and the International Paralympic Committee and commended by the competent authorities. The college actively serves the development of the society and regional economic and cultural undertakings. At present, the college has carried out 2+2 and 3+1 student joint training programs with the University of York, Northumbria University, University of Wolverhampton, and University of Huddersfield in the UK, and a postgraduate joint training program with the City University of Macau.
