Shanxi Engineering Vocational College is a full-time public higher vocational college approved by the provincial government and registered by the Ministry of Education. It was established in 2019 by the merger of the former national demonstration school Shanxi Engineering Vocational and Technical College and the former national backbone school Shanxi Coal Vocational and Technical College. The predecessors of the two colleges were the Metallurgical Industry Technology School and the Mining Industry Technology School, which were founded in 1952. They are two of the five earliest vocational schools in Shanxi Province. In 2020, the former Shanxi Coal Vocational Secondary School and the former Shanxi Yanbei Coal Industry School were merged into Shanxi Engineering Vocational College. The college adheres to the development concept of "transformation and comprehensive reform are needed, and Shanxi Institute of Technology has something to do", adheres to the school motto of "respecting morality and ability, encouraging learning and emphasizing practice", and promotes the school spirit of "upholding the truth, self-reliance, integration, and innovation". The college is a project construction unit of the A-level professional group of the "China's Characteristic High-level Vocational School and Professional Construction Plan", a national high-quality higher vocational college, a national demonstration school, a national backbone school, the first batch of modern apprenticeship pilot units of the Ministry of Education, the first batch of "one-stop" student community comprehensive management model construction pilot units of the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Education Vocational College Digital Campus Construction Pilot Unit, the National Demonstration University for Deepening Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education, and the National Huang Yanpei Vocational Education Excellent School. Over the past 70 years since its establishment, it has trained more than 140,000 high-quality technical and skilled talents for the country. The college covers an area of 880 acres, with a total building area of 400,000 square meters and a total fixed asset value of 706 million yuan. It has three campuses: Tanghuai, Longtan, and Xutan. Among them, the Tanghuai campus is located in the central area of the Tanghuai Industrial Park in the Comprehensive Reform Demonstration Zone of Shanxi Province, covering an area of 573 acres; the Longtan campus is adjacent to Longtan Park, covering an area of 197 acres; the Xutan campus is located in the "Xuefu District" where surrounding universities gather, covering an area of 110 acres. There are more than 14,000 full-time students. The college currently has 860 faculty members, including 722 full-time teachers and 229 teachers with associate senior titles or above. It has 2 national vocational education innovation teams, 1 Huang Danian-style teacher team in national universities, 1 leading teaching team in the national mechanical industry vocational education service advanced manufacturing major, 1 national excellent teaching team in the coal industry, 1 national model party branch, 1 national teaching master, 1 national model teacher, 2 "Huang Yanpei Vocational Education Award Outstanding Teachers", 1 leading talent in emerging industries in Shanxi Province, 35 provincial academic leaders and "dual-qualified" teaching masters, 5 model teachers in Shanxi Province, and 18 "Sanjin Talents" support plan. The college is based on serving the regional economic development of Shanxi, helping the coordinated development of the integration of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei, the national resource-based economic transformation and comprehensive reform demonstration zone, and the future industrial manufacturing base of emerging industries. It closely follows the industrial layout of our province, connects with the technological upgrading of our province’s traditional pillar industries and the development of emerging industries, adheres to “quality development, characteristic development, and brand development”, and builds a “2431” professional group system: connecting with the technological upgrading of the two pillar industries of metallurgy and coal, and making the two major brand professional groups of ferrous metallurgy and intelligent coal mining more refined and excellent. The ferrous metallurgy professional group is a “double high plan” A-level professional group construction project, and it has been built into a high-level professional group with Chinese characteristics. The college’s “Ferrous Metallurgical Technology Professional Teaching Resource Library” is a national-level vocational education professional teaching resource library, and the coal mine intelligent mining professional group is a “1331 project”. The school is committed to cultivating high-tech talents in intelligent coal mining by focusing on the core of the "Program" mining engineering discipline, and building a new highland for the cultivation of high-tech talents in intelligent coal mining in the province; it connects with the development needs of industries such as intelligent equipment manufacturing, new generation information technology, big data, and cloud computing, and expands and strengthens the four major specialty groups of mechanical manufacturing, electrical automation, big data technology and application, and new generation information technology. The majors of mechanical manufacturing and electrical automation are connected with the relevant majors of Taiyuan University of Technology, becoming pilot majors for joint training of high school and undergraduate programs; it connects with the talent needs of strategic emerging industries such as rail transit, new energy vehicles, industrial construction and surveying and mapping, modern logistics, finance and trade, and leads and drives the three major professional groups of transportation engineering, construction engineering, and modern economics and management to achieve high-quality development; it connects with the hydrogen energy industry chain among the ten major industrial chains in our province, focuses on the coal-to-hydrogen industry, and promotes the transformation and development of modern chemical industry professional groups. The college currently has 46 enrollment majors, including 11 national demonstration key majors, 2 Shanxi Province "1331" key discipline construction majors, 9 Shanxi Province key construction professional groups, and 2 international cooperation majors. The college has 181 specialized on-campus training rooms (bases), including 2 national key training bases and 15 provincial key training bases. It has built a number of international-level training bases such as GE in the United States, Siemens in Germany, and robots. The total value of teaching instruments and equipment is 219 million yuan, and the average value of instruments and equipment per student reaches 13,000 yuan, ranking first among similar colleges in Shanxi Province. There are more than 300 off-campus training bases. Vigorously implement the skill competition leading project, comprehensively promote the reform of the competition and learning model, and build a four-level competition system of "department-college-province-country". In recent years, it has won more than 100 national vocational skills competition awards, more than 300 provincial, ministerial and industry awards, and won the "Annual Champion of the Higher Vocational Group" of the Shanxi Vocational College Skills Competition. The employment rate of graduates has remained above 95% for many years, and the proportion of retention in Shanxi and retention in mergers and acquisitions has reached 81.95% and 41.64% respectively.
