Tianjin Polytechnic University is a full-time general higher education institution jointly established by the Ministry of Education and Tianjin Municipality, and a key construction institution of Tianjin Municipality. The school has a long history of running schools. It was founded in 1912 and renamed Tianjin Polytechnic University in 2000. It entered the national "Double First-Class" construction university sequence in 2017 and 2022. In 2018, it was approved as a university jointly established by the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense and Tianjin Municipality. It is one of the earliest institutions of higher education in textiles in my country. It has now developed into a multi-disciplinary comprehensive university with engineering as the main subject and coordinated development of engineering, science, literature, management, economics, law, art and medicine. The school covers a total area of more than 1.5 million square meters and a total construction area of 860,000 square meters. The school has 5 faculties, 25 colleges, 1 college, and 2 affiliated hospitals. There are nearly 19,000 undergraduate students, more than 5,300 full-time master students, more than 600 doctoral students, more than 9,000 adult education degree students, and nearly 2,000 international students of various types (more than 600 degree students). The school has a strong faculty. The school currently has more than 2,200 faculty members, including more than 1,600 full-time teachers, more than 1,000 teachers with doctoral degrees, and more than 1,000 teachers with senior professional titles. There are 7 academicians of the two academies, 5 Yangtze River Scholars of the Ministry of Education, 7 winners of the National Outstanding Youth Science Fund, 3 National Outstanding Professional and Technical Talents, 9 selected candidates for high-end talent projects such as the National "Ten Thousand Talents Plan", and 7 national candidates for the "Hundreds of Millions" Talent Project. There are more than 60 national high-level talents such as winners of the "Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Science and Technology Award", winners of the "Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Award", winners of the National Outstanding Youth Science Fund, and experts from the Discipline Evaluation Group of the State Council Academic Degree Committee, and more than 200 provincial and ministerial talents of various types; there are more than 40 high-level teams at the provincial and ministerial level and above, including the first batch of Huang Danian-style teacher teams in colleges and universities in the country, national teaching teams, and innovation teams of the Ministry of Education, and they have been selected as national innovative talent training demonstration bases. The school adheres to the development idea of "strengthening engineering, improving science, refining liberal arts, and doing well in medicine", and has formed a good discipline ecological layout with engineering as the main focus and coordinated development of multiple disciplines. The school currently has 68 undergraduate majors, including 25 national first-class professional construction sites, 6 national characteristic majors, 6 municipal first-class professional construction sites, 15 Tianjin brand majors, 6 Tianjin strategic emerging industry related majors, 8 Tianjin advantage and characteristic majors, 12 application-oriented majors, and 8 majors have passed the engineering education professional certification. The university has 1 national key discipline, 12 Tianjin key disciplines, 1 discipline selected as a national "double first-class" discipline, 5 disciplines selected as Tianjin first-class disciplines, 5 disciplines selected as Tianjin's top disciplines, 5 Tianjin characteristic discipline groups, 6 Tianjin service industry characteristic discipline groups; the university has 5 postdoctoral mobile stations, 6 doctoral degree authorization points (5 first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization points, 1 doctoral professional degree authorization category), 27 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points (including 1 interdisciplinary master's degree authorization point) and 12 master's professional degree authorization categories; the textile science and engineering discipline received A+ in the fourth round of national discipline evaluation; 5 disciplines entered the top 1% of ESI worldwide. In 2018, it was selected into the Higher Education Discipline Innovation and Intelligence Introduction Program. The university attaches great importance to the all-round development of students' morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics, and labor. It has 1 national college student cultural quality education base, 2 national college student off-campus practice education bases, 2 national demonstration engineering professional degree graduate joint training bases, 1 Tianjin college student science and technology entrepreneurship practice base, and 1 Tianjin international student practice practice base. The "maker space" has been recognized as the first batch of Tianjin mass innovation space and the first batch of national mass innovation space. In recent years, students have won more than 800 awards at the provincial and ministerial levels in academic competitions each year, and a group of outstanding college students and advanced collectives represented by Xu Wei, a national moral model, have been cultivated. The university encourages independent innovation and highlights the characteristics of modern textile and national defense military industry. It has the first national key laboratory in Tianjin universities - the provincial and ministerial joint construction national key laboratory of separation membrane and membrane process, and has built 1 national international joint research center, 2 national and local joint engineering research centers, 2 key laboratories of the Ministry of Education, 2 engineering research centers of the Ministry of Education, 1 collaborative innovation center jointly built by the Ministry of Education and the province, 8 key laboratories in Tianjin, 4 engineering centers in Tianjin, 6 international joint research centers in Tianjin, 2 joint research centers of the "Belt and Road" in Tianjin, 1 key research base of humanities and social sciences in Tianjin, and has built the Tianjin Research Center for the Theoretical System of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics, the Tianjin Collaborative Innovation Center for Membrane Separation Technology, the Tianjin Science and Technology Achievement Transformation Center, and the Tianjin Industrial Design Center. The school attaches great importance to the transformation of results. It is one of the first national intellectual property pilot universities. It has built a national intellectual property information service center and has co-built with local governments Tianjin Polytechnic University Cangzhou Research Institute, Tianjin Polytechnic University Shaoxing Keqiao Research Institute and other results transformation platforms.
