Yiyang Medical College was founded in 1950 and was formerly known as Yiyang Health School. The school implements the management system of "co-construction and co-management by the province and the city, with the city as the main body". It is the only full-time medical and health college in Hunan Province. It is one of the first batch of pilot schools for emergency education in the country, the first batch of provincial training bases for school emergency education in the country, the first batch of healthy school construction units in the country, the national physician qualification examination practical skills test (oral category) base, the national Red Cross model unit, the National Natural Science Foundation supporting unit, the National Oral Health Education Base, the Ministry of Education's "1+X" Vocational Skills Level Certificate Excellent Pilot College, Hunan Province Schistosomiasis Prevention and Control Training Base, Central South University Xiangya Hospital Nursing Talent Training Cooperation School, and has been awarded the title of Hunan Civilized University, Hunan Safe University, Hunan Excellent Rural Doctor Training School, Hunan Most Beautiful University, Hunan Advanced Unit for Conscription Work, Hunan Model Workers' Home, Hunan Safe Construction Demonstration School, and Hunan Demonstration School for Strengthening the Consciousness of the Chinese Nation Community. The school covers an area of 501.6 acres, with a building area of 166,000 square meters, fixed assets of 531.68 million yuan, teaching and scientific research equipment with a total value of 141 million yuan, and a library collection of 1.08 million books. The school has 16 educational and auxiliary institutions, and offers 18 ordinary full-time college education majors such as clinical medicine, stomatology, pharmacy, and nursing. Among them, the nursing major is a provincial specialty major, and the stomatology and pharmacy majors are central government-supported majors and Hunan Province Comprehensive Reform Pilot Majors. The nursing professional group, pharmacy professional group, and clinical medicine professional group are A-level construction units of the Hunan Chuyi High-level Vocational Professional Group Construction Plan. The school recruits students from 18 provinces across the country, with nearly 12,000 full-time students. There are more than 900 faculty and staff, including 195 with senior professional titles. There is currently 1 directly affiliated comprehensive affiliated hospital, 1 directly affiliated stomatological hospital, 6 non-directly affiliated hospitals, and 13 teaching hospitals. The school has a national vocational skills appraisal institute, and is a pilot institution for the "1+X" certificate system of the Ministry of Education and a pilot institution for vocational skills level certification in Hunan Province; it has established key laboratories such as the Key Laboratory of Schistosoma japonicum and Pathogenic Microorganism Infection Control Technology around Dongting Lake, the Key Laboratory of Anhua Polygonatum Processing Technology and Product Development, and the Wulingshan Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The school's Life Science Museum and Chinese Medicine Specimen Museum are provincial popular science education bases; it has 6 modern experimental training centers and 148 modern experimental training rooms, including the Nursing (Midwifery) Training Center, the Clinical Medicine (Blood Prevention) Training Center, and the Oral Medicine Training Center, and has more than 100 stable off-campus directional internship employment bases.
