Suzhou Arts and Crafts Vocational and Technical College is the first higher vocational college of art and design established in my country. Its predecessor was the "Suzhou Arts and Crafts College" founded in August 1958. In 1999, Suzhou Arts and Crafts School and Suzhou Light Industry Workers University jointly established Suzhou Arts and Crafts Vocational and Technical College, becoming the first independent higher vocational college of art and design in my country. In 2006, the school achieved excellent results in the evaluation of the talent training level of higher vocational colleges. In 2007, it became the first batch of "Jiangsu Demonstration Higher Vocational Colleges". In 2010, it was identified as a college for the construction of the "National Demonstration Higher Vocational College Construction Plan". In 2014, the school's national backbone college construction project won the "excellent" grade in the acceptance of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance. In 2018, it was awarded the Jiangsu Province High-level Vocational College Construction Unit. In 2019, the school was successfully selected as a construction unit of the Chinese Characteristic High-level Vocational College and Professional Construction Plan. The school has been rated as the "Top 50 in Education Effectiveness", "Top 50 in Service to Society Contribution", "Top 50 in International Influence", "Top 50 in Student Comprehensive Satisfaction" and other national higher vocational colleges, and ranked first in the "Wu Shulian 2019 China Higher Vocational College Culture and Art Ranking". The school is located on the shore of Shihu Lake and the foot of Shangfang Mountain in the ancient Wu resort. The long history and profound culture have created a good atmosphere for the growth of students. The school campus covers an area of 561 acres, with a building area of nearly 200,000 square meters, more than 400 faculty and staff, and more than 5,000 students. There are seven secondary colleges: the School of Handicrafts, the School of Fine Arts, the School of Visual Communication, the School of Environmental Arts, the School of Fashion Design, the School of Industrial Design, and the School of Digital Arts. It has two major series of modern art design and traditional arts and crafts, 25 majors and 54 small specializations, forming a professional pattern of multi-disciplinary integration, traditional arts and crafts majors and modern art design majors. The school has a national key construction of vocational teacher training base of the Ministry of Education, a training base for intangible cultural heritage inheritors of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and a national women's handicraft training demonstration base. There are also the Ministry of Education's Chinese Excellent Traditional Culture Inheritance Base, Jiangsu Province Arts and Crafts Professional Continuing Education Base, Suzhou Taohuawu Woodcut New Year Painting Society (Research Institute), etc. The school is the deputy director unit of the Teaching Guidance Committee for Art Design Majors in Vocational Colleges of the Ministry of Education, and the chairman unit of the Graphic Vision Special Committee of the Teaching Guidance Committee for Art Design Majors in Vocational Colleges of the Ministry of Education. The school's training center has a construction area of 45,800 square meters and has 97 studios, including 4 national training bases, 8 provincial training bases, and 1 provincial experimental teaching demonstration center. Centering on the goal of cultivating high-quality technical and skilled art design talents with "virtue and art, ingenuity and dexterity", the school continues to deepen education and teaching reforms, build a service-oriented professional teaching system, deepen the innovative practice of the "studio system" talent training model, and actively serve the local modern service industry and cultural and creative industries. With cooperative employment as the orientation, cooperative education as the model, and cooperative development as the goal, we will improve the new mechanism of school-government-enterprise collaborative innovation of production and education integration. Based on tradition and modernity, the school is committed to the protection and inheritance of Suzhou's traditional culture and folk crafts, and has promoted the inheritance and development of the intangible cultural heritage of Suzhou Taohuawu Woodcut New Year Pictures to a new stage. Carrying cultural missions and embodying responsibility. Through platforms such as the "Crafts and Arts Inheritance and Innovation Experimental Zone", the school focuses on the excavation, inheritance and research and development of Taohuawu Woodcut New Year Pictures, Suzhou Embroidery, and Leishan Miao intangible heritage. The school was named the first "Jiangsu Intangible Cultural Heritage Research Base"; it presided over the construction of the "Hundred Crafts Records: Inheritance and Innovation of Chinese Arts and Crafts Intangible Cultural Heritage" National Vocational Education Professional Teaching Resource Library. At present, the school has a total of 141 school-enterprise cooperation units and 24 on-campus enterprises. While actively absorbing advanced Western culture, the school spreads Chinese culture and exports traditional crafts and art design education paradigms through exchanges and cooperation with foreign art and design colleges and cultural academic institutions. The school has the "Sino-French Jiangsu Art and Design Education Research Center" jointly founded by the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education and the Paris Education Bureau of France, and the "Sino-British Suzhou Art and Design Education Innovation Center" jointly established by the school and the University of Southampton in the United Kingdom. There are four workstations in France, the Netherlands, Austria and the United Kingdom. At present, it has established cooperative relations with 78 universities in 28 countries including France, Britain, Japan, Canada, the United States and the Netherlands. The school implements the overseas exhibition project of Chinese craftsmanship and the overseas exhibition project of outstanding works of teachers and students of the school, and trains about 200 long-term and short-term international students each year. The school has outstanding results in talent training, and the enrollment and employment situation are both prosperous. It recruits students from 30 provinces and cities across the country, with an annual enrollment scale of about 1,800 people. The employment rate of graduates has remained above 98% for consecutive years, the enterprise satisfaction rate has reached 98%, and a large number of graduates have started their own businesses. The school has won many honors awarded by the Jiangsu Provincial Government, including the "Cradle Award for High-skilled Talents", "Advanced School for International Cooperation and Exchange in Education in Jiangsu Province", "Advanced Collective for Graduate Employment in Jiangsu Province", and "Outstanding Contribution Award for High-skilled Talent Training in Suzhou City".
