Henan Agricultural University has gone through more than 120 years of schooling, witnessing the history of modern higher education in Henan and the history of modern agricultural education in Henan. The school originated from Henan University Hall founded in 1902. It was changed to Henan Public Agricultural School in 1912. In 1927, it merged with Zhongzhou University and Henan Public Law and Politics School to become the National Fifth Sun Yat-sen University. In 1952, it was re-established as an independent institution during the national college adjustment and renamed Henan Agricultural College. In 1984, it was renamed Henan Agricultural University. In 2009, it became the first provincial agricultural university jointly established by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the local provincial government. In 2012, it became a university jointly established by the State Forestry and Grassland Administration and the provincial government. In 2013, the Henan Grain Crop Collaborative Innovation Center led by the school was selected into the first batch of the national "2011 Plan". In 2020, it was selected as a university for the construction of characteristic key universities in Henan Province. In 2021, it was selected as a university for the "Double First-Class" creation project in Henan Province. The university has three campuses in Zhengzhou, namely Wenhua Road Campus, Longzihu Campus and Xuchang Campus, covering an area of 2.6483 million square meters. It has an information network environment with interconnection and all-round coverage of three campuses in two places, as well as a digital campus comprehensive application information sharing platform. It has 10 major disciplines, namely agriculture, engineering, science, economics, management, law, literature, medicine, education and art. It has 1 first-level national key discipline, 19 provincial and ministerial key disciplines, 9 postdoctoral research stations; 9 first-level disciplines authorized to confer doctoral degrees, 2 doctoral professional degree categories; 18 first-level disciplines authorized to confer master's degrees, 17 master's professional degree categories; 88 undergraduate majors. There are 33,993 students of various types. There are 2,532 faculty and staff members in the school. Among them, 979 people hold senior professional and technical positions such as professors and associate professors, and 1,439 people hold doctoral degrees. There are 2 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and 123 talents of various levels and types. It has been successively rated as a pilot university for the comprehensive reform of "three-dimensional education" in Henan Province, one of the top 50 universities for employment in China, one of the top 50 universities for innovation and entrepreneurship in China, a high-quality university for talent cultivation in rural revitalization in China, and a national food security publicity and education base. The school vigorously implements the "281" platform construction plan, and has built two Henan laboratories, including Shennong Seed Industry Laboratory and Longhu Modern Immunology Laboratory, 8 national and international scientific research platforms, 104 scientific research platforms at or above the provincial and ministerial level, and presided over 651 National Natural Science Foundation projects and more than 2,650 scientific research projects at or above the provincial and ministerial level. Since 2020, the school's scientific research funding has exceeded 190 million, 240 million, and 370 million yuan in succession, and has produced a series of major scientific research results, including the world's first high-quality and fine physical map of the rye genome and the first local chicken genome liquid phase chip. The school has focused on implementing the "241" discipline construction action, and the disciplines of crop science and veterinary science have been selected into the provincial "double first-class" creation project. There are currently four advantageous and characteristic discipline groups in crop science, veterinary science, forestry, and agricultural engineering, and one provincial special and urgently needed characteristic backbone discipline (group). In 2022, the university and three disciplines received excellent grades in the evaluation of the effectiveness of the construction of characteristic key universities and characteristic key disciplines in Henan Province; three disciplines were included in the list of priority development disciplines of the Ministry of Education. Since 2022, the university has added four new disciplines to the top 1% of ESI globally, totaling seven. Facing the needs of national and local economic and social development, the university has made positive contributions to national food security and local economic and social development for a long time.
