Fudan University Shanghai Medical College (abbreviated as "Fudan Shanghai Medical College") is located in Xuhui District, Shanghai. It was founded in 1927. When it was founded, it was named the National Fourth Sun Yat-sen University Medical College. It was the first national university medical school founded by Chinese. Yan Fuqing served as the first dean. In 1932, it became independent as the National Shanghai Medical College. The motto of the school is "Righteousness and Clear Dao", which comes from "Han Shu·Biography of Dong Zhongshu": Righteousness without seeking profit, clear Dao without counting merit. In 1939, due to the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, it moved to Kunming, Yunnan. In 1940, it moved to Chongqing, Sichuan. In 1946, after the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, it moved back to Shanghai. In 1952, it was renamed Shanghai First Medical College. In 1959, it was designated as one of the 16 key institutions of higher learning in the country. In 1985, it was renamed Shanghai Medical University. In 2000, Shanghai Medical University and Fudan University merged to form the new Fudan University. In 2012, the new Shanghai Medical College was established. As a branch of the Party and Government of Fudan University, it exercises relatively independent management authority in terms of talent training, scientific research, discipline construction, development planning, resource allocation, and foreign exchanges in the medical field according to the authorization of the school. In 2017, the CPC Shanghai Medical College Working Committee of Fudan University was established as a branch of the Party Committee of the school. On December 21, 2018, the Ministry of Education, the National Health Commission, and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government formally signed an agreement to jointly build and manage the Shanghai Medical College of Fudan University and its affiliated hospitals. On June 14, 2019, the leadership team of the Shanghai Medical College of Fudan University announced the holding of the meeting. The Shanghai Municipal Party Committee decided to establish the Shanghai Medical College Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Discipline Inspection Commission of the Shanghai Medical College of Fudan University. On the same day, the pilot construction of the high-level local colleges and universities of Shanghai Medical College of Fudan University was officially launched. Shanghai Medical College of Fudan University has 10 undergraduate majors: clinical medicine (eight-year system), clinical medicine (five-year system), clinical medicine (six-year system), stomatology, basic medicine, forensic medicine, preventive medicine, public utilities management, pharmacy, and nursing. There are 9 first-level disciplines with doctoral degree-granting rights (6 in medical disciplines and 3 in non-medical disciplines), 3 doctoral degree-granting points for professional degrees, and 8 postdoctoral research stations: biology, basic medicine, clinical medicine, public health and preventive medicine, integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine, pharmacy, public administration (medicine), and nursing. Shanghai Medical College of Fudan University has 753 full-time teachers and 206 full-time scientific researchers, including 631 with senior professional titles. There are 10 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and 5 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. There are 12,285 students in the college, including 4,208 doctoral students (including 32 students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and 13 international students), 3,776 master's students (including 33 students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and 38 international students), and 4,301 ordinary undergraduates (including 83 students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and 228 international students). Fudan University Shanghai Medical College has 14 directly affiliated institutions and institutes: School of Basic Medicine, School of Clinical Medicine, School of Public Health, School of Pharmacy, School of Nursing, School of Stomatology, Institute of Biomedical Sciences, Institute of Brain Sciences, Institute of Radiation Medicine, Department of Experimental Animal Sciences, Institute of Brain Science Translational Research, Shanghai Institute of Major Infectious Diseases and Biosafety, Institute of Reproduction and Development (under preparation), and Institute of Intelligent Medicine (under preparation). There are 18 affiliated hospitals (including those under preparation): Zhongshan Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University, Huashan Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University, Cancer Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University, Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University, Children's Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University, Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University, Jinshan Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University, Shanghai Fifth People's Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University, Shanghai (Fudan University Affiliated) Public Health Clinical Center, East China Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University, Pudong Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University, Jing'an District Central Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University, Minhang Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University, Proton and Heavy Ion Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University, Qingpu District Central Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University, Xuhui Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University, Mental Health Center Affiliated to Fudan University (preparation), and Stomatological Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University (preparation). Shanghai Medical College of Fudan University currently has six first-level disciplines: basic medicine, clinical medicine, public health and preventive medicine, integrated Chinese and Western medicine, pharmacy, and nursing. The first-level discipline of stomatology is also under preparation. Among them, four disciplines, namely basic medicine, clinical medicine, pharmacy, and integration of traditional Chinese and Western medicine, were selected as the first round of national “Double First-Class” construction disciplines, and three disciplines, namely basic medicine, public health and preventive medicine, and integration of traditional Chinese and Western medicine, were selected into Shanghai’s peak discipline construction plan. There are National Clinical Research Center for Geriatric Diseases, National Clinical Research Center for Radiation and Therapy, National Children's Medical Center (Shanghai), National Medical Center for Neurological Diseases, and National Medical Center for Infectious Diseases; there is 1 National Key Laboratory: Medical Neurobiology; 5 Key Laboratories of the Ministry of Education: Medical Molecular Virology, Metabolic Molecular Medicine, Intelligent Drug Delivery, Public Health Safety, and Principles of Carcinogenesis and Invasion; 1 Frontier Science Center of the Ministry of Education: Brain Science; 9 Key Laboratories of the National Health Commission (Ministry of Health): Glycoconjugates, Clinical Pharmacology of Antibiotics, Hand Function Reconstruction, Health Technology Assessment, Medical Molecular Virology, Auditory Medicine, Myopia, Viral Heart Disease, and Neonatal Diseases; 14 Shanghai Key Laboratories: Peripheral Nerve Microsurgery, Medical Image Processing and Computer-Assisted Technology, Organ Transplantation, Female Reproductive Endocrine-Related Diseases, Kidney Disease and Blood Purification, Visual Impairment and Reconstruction, Breast Tumors, Birth Defect Prevention and Treatment, Geriatric Clinical Medicine, Medical Epigenetics, Pulmonary Inflammation and Injury, Brain Function Remodeling and Neural Regeneration, Infectious Diseases and Biosafety Emergency Response, and Radiation Oncology.
