Shanxi Tourism Vocational College, formerly known as Shanxi Provincial Planning and Statistics School, was founded in 1980 and has a 42-year history of running schools. In 1994, the school became one of the first 7 national key technical secondary schools among the 125 technical secondary schools in the province at that time; in 1999, it began to hold higher vocational education, and in 2001, it established the School of Economics and Information of Shanxi University of Finance and Economics with Shanxi University of Finance and Economics. In January 2004, in accordance with the large demand for tourism talents in the development of the pillar industry of tourism and the needs of the school's own development, it was approved by the Shanxi Provincial People's Government and filed with the Ministry of Education, and transformed and upgraded to Shanxi Tourism Vocational College. It is the first independent full-time public tourism higher vocational college in Shanxi Province. The college campus covers an area of 335 mu (including: 185 mu of school land and 150 mu of newly acquired unbuilt land), with a building area of 114,900 square meters, including 55,100 square meters of teaching, scientific research and auxiliary rooms; 2,400 square meters of administrative office rooms; 31,600 square meters of living rooms; and 34,600 square meters of student dormitories (apartments). The college currently has 310 faculty members, including 228 full-time teachers. Among the full-time teachers, there are 190 teachers with intermediate and senior professional titles (2 senior teachers, 63 deputy senior teachers, and 124 intermediate teachers), 80% of the teachers have master's degrees or above, and 173 dual-qualified and dual-qualified teachers, including 7 famous and excellent teachers of Shanxi Province, 2 winners of the Chinese Golden Chef Award, 1 Shanxi technical expert, 1 top-notch backbone talent of "Shanxi Talent", 1 Jinyang craftsman, 2 Chinese cooking masters, 1 Chinese catering service master, and 1 Chinese catering service master. There are 13 teaching innovation teams, 1 provincial teaching innovation team, 2 provincial online boutique course teams for teachers, 3 provincial teaching achievement award teams, and 4 provincial vocational college teaching ability competition award-winning teams. The college teachers have participated in the training of personnel in the cultural tourism industry, the formulation of scenic spot acceptance standards, and the assessment and adjudication of hotel industry professional qualification certificates in the province many times, providing human and intellectual support for the development of Shanxi's tourism industry. The college currently has 7 departments, 2 divisions, 1 institute and 10 teaching units, including the Department of Tourism Management, the Department of Hotel Management, the Department of Tourism Culture and Art, the Department of Tourism Foreign Languages, the Department of International Trade, the Department of Economic Management, and the Department of Computer Science. There are 42 majors (directions) such as tourism management, tour guides, hotel management and digital operations, cooking technology and nutrition, and cultural relics restoration and protection. Among them, there are 2 provincial key majors (tourism management, cultural relics restoration and protection), 3 provincial backbone majors (tour guides, cooking technology and nutrition, hotel management and digital operations), 2 provincial specialty majors (tour guides, hotel management and digital operations), 1 provincial high-level major (computer application technology), and 1 provincial brand major (big data and accounting). The college has 70 on-campus internship training rooms, including 1 central government-supported training base (gemstone identification and processing), 5 provincial demonstration training bases (tourism management, hotel management and digital operations, tour guides, flight attendants, and engineering cost); 3 high-level training bases in Shanxi Province (cooking technology and nutrition, hotel management and digital operations, flight attendants). In addition, the college also has 151 stable off-campus internship training bases. The college currently has 10,179 students, including 4,899 full-time students and 5,280 expanded students. Since the establishment of higher vocational education, the college has trained more than 30,000 graduates, including more than 20,000 talents in the tourism industry. In recent years, our students have won 7 national competition awards and more than 30 provincial competition awards, and the employment rate of graduates has reached 80%. The college has signed international school cooperation agreements with 5 universities in Japan and South Korea, and opened 1 Sino-foreign cooperative education project. After more than 40 years of development, the college has experienced an upgrade from a secondary technical school to a higher vocational college, and a transformation from economics to tourism. It has achieved "three major results", namely, in terms of the quality of talent training, the first round of evaluation in 2008 was good, the second round of evaluation in 2014 was excellent, and then in 2018, it entered the ranks of high-quality schools with the tenth place among the 47 higher vocational colleges in the province. It has achieved "four doublings", namely, the college's area, the number of students, the average number of instruments and equipment per student, and the number of teachers have doubled. The college is currently the secretary-general unit of the Shanxi Tourism Vocational Education Group, a member unit of the Tourism Education Branch of the China Tourism Association, a "National Demonstration College of Catering Vocational Education", a "Modern Apprenticeship Pilot Unit", a "Shanxi Vocational Education Quality Vocational College" construction unit, and a provincial "Vocational Education Teachers Teaching Innovation Team" construction unit. The college has been rated as a "Provincial Civilized Unit Model" for 23 consecutive years, a "Shanxi Civilized Unit" for 21 consecutive years, and a "Shanxi Civilized Campus" in 2020. In 2021, it was selected as an "Advanced School for Creating a National Civilized Campus".
