Taizhou Vocational and Technical College was established in March 1998 with the approval of the former State Education Commission. It is one of the first 14 full-time higher vocational and technical colleges in the country, the first college in Jiangsu Province named "Vocational and Technical College", and the first general college in Taizhou City at the prefecture level. The school is affiliated to the People's Government of Taizhou City. The school's history can be traced back to the Taizhou Medical College (later renamed Taizhou Health School) established in 1958; in June 1985, three industry bureau-run employee universities merged to form Taizhou Workers University; in March 1998, Taizhou Vocational and Technical College was established; in August 2000, Taizhou Health School was fully incorporated into Taizhou Vocational and Technical College. The school is now a model higher vocational college in Jiangsu Province, a construction unit of high-level higher vocational colleges with Chinese characteristics in Jiangsu Province, a central budget investment reserve college for the "14th Five-Year Plan" period of the Education Power Promotion Project, a pilot college for diagnosis and reform in Jiangsu Province, and a provincial college with A-level quantitative assessment of college graduates' employment work. It has won the Taizhou Junma Award for four consecutive years and has ranked first in the first class of comprehensive assessment of local high-quality development in Taizhou universities for two consecutive years. The school has won the honorary titles of Jiangsu Civilized Campus, Harmonious Campus, Garden-style School, Advanced Collective of Security and Security Work, and High-quality Safe Campus Construction. The school is located in the core area of Taizhou National Pharmaceutical High-tech Zone-China Pharmaceutical City, covering an area of 1,061 acres and a building area of 287,500 square meters. It is a first-class modern campus, ecological campus and smart campus in the country's higher vocational colleges. There are 9 colleges and 1 department, including the School of Medical Sciences, School of Intelligent Manufacturing, School of Economics and Management, School of Information Technology, School of Pharmacy, School of Civil Engineering, School of Art, School of Marxism, School of Continuing Education and Department of Basic Sciences, 8 professional groups and 40 majors. There are 685 faculty and staff, 539 full-time teachers, 187 teachers with senior professional titles, including 28 senior teachers, 396 teachers with master's degrees and above, and 85.08% of dual-qualified teachers. There are 10,883 full-time students and 6,468 students in adult education, and nearly 20,000 social trainings are carried out each year. Over the past 65 years, the school has trained more than 80,000 outstanding talents of various types for Taizhou and the Yangtze River Delta region. It is known as "a base for incubating engineering and management talents; a cradle for cultivating angels in white and oral defenders". The school has 2 national key construction majors, 5 provincial characteristic majors, 3 provincial key construction professional groups, 3 provincial backbone majors, and 1 provincial high-level professional group; it has 2 national training centers, 3 provincial training bases, 2 provincial production-education deep integration training platforms, 1 provincial intelligent pharmaceutical production-education integration platform, 64 on-campus practice training centers, and 285 off-campus practice training bases jointly built with enterprises and institutions, and 5 school-enterprise dual-subject colleges. There are 10 provincial and municipal engineering technology research and development centers, including the Jiangsu Solid Preparation Engineering Technology Research and Development Center. The school is the "Ministry of Education-ZTE ICT Industry Innovation Base", ZTE CLAA (China LoRa Alliance) Internet of Things Demonstration Base, the Ministry of Education's national "Industrial Robot Open Public Training Base" and "ABB/Xinshida Industrial Robot R&D Application Center" construction unit, National Excellent Adult Continuing Education College (Training Institution), China's Excellent Correspondence Station for Continuing Education in Colleges and Universities, the first batch of 1+X certificate system pilot colleges in the country, the national nursing major shortage talent training base, the first batch of full-time academic education colleges for social personnel in Jiangsu Province, Jiangsu Industrial Talent Training Base, Taizhou Shuangyong College, Taizhou Grid College. Over the years, students have won more than 400 awards in various skill competitions at all levels. In the past three years (2021-2023), teachers and students have won a total of 61 third prizes or above in national and provincial vocational college skill competitions, including 1 first prize in the national competition; 6 first prizes, 16 second prizes, and 38 third prizes in the provincial competition. The employment rate of graduates, employer satisfaction, and alumni's overall satisfaction with their alma mater are all around 98%.
