Hunan Petrochemical Vocational and Technical College (hereinafter referred to as "the school") is a full-time general college directly under the Hunan Provincial Department of Education. It is the only public higher vocational college in the central and southern regions that fully connects with the petrochemical industry cluster. The school is located in Yueyang, a cultural city with a long history of more than 2,500 years. It was formerly the Hunan Changling Petroleum School established in 1978. In 2002, it merged with the Technical School, Changlian Staff University, Changlian Training Center, and Changlian Party School of Sinopec Changling Refining and Chemical Company (hereinafter referred to as "Changlian"), and was upgraded to a full-time general higher vocational and technical college in 2003. In October 2013, it was transferred to the management of the Hunan Provincial Government. In October 2020, the school moved from the original Changlian Industrial and Mining Area to the new campus on Xiangbei Avenue, Yueyang County. The school currently covers an area of about 440 acres, with 110,000 square meters of school buildings, 115.53 million yuan of fixed assets, 51.96 million yuan of teaching equipment, 343,000 books, more than 400 faculty and staff, and more than 9,000 students. The school has always been rooted in petrochemicals, a national strategic pillar industry, and has expanded to other energy and chemical fields. It currently has seven secondary colleges: Petrochemical Engineering College, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering College, Economics and Information College, Big Data and Artificial Intelligence College, Marxism College, Humanities College and Continuing Education College. It fully connects with the petrochemical product production and storage and transportation industry group, petrochemical equipment maintenance and control industry group, and petrochemical related service industry group of the mid- and downstream industrial chain of petrochemicals. There are 21 majors, forming three professional groups: petrochemical production and storage and transportation technology, petrochemical equipment and control technology, and petrochemical management and information technology. The petrochemical production and storage and transportation technology professional group is a "Hunan Province Demonstration Characteristic Professional Group" and a "Hunan Province Higher Vocational Education First-Class Characteristic Professional Group", and the chemical equipment manufacturing and maintenance professional training base is a "Hunan Province School-Enterprise Cooperation Production Training Base" and a "Hunan Province Higher Vocational Education First-Class Characteristic Production Training Base". The college adheres to the integration of production and education, the integration of work and study, and the unity of knowledge and practice. In 2015, the project was established as the first batch of modern apprenticeship pilot colleges and universities of the Ministry of Education and the Hunan Vocational College School-Enterprise Cooperation Production Internship Training Base. The school has successively cooperated with Changlian Electromechanical, Zhuhai China Resources, Fujian Yongrong, Beijing Weijia UAV, Shenzhen Jiuye Lingzhi, Hunan Zhuoding, Shenzhen Huada Leye, Hunan Cypress and many other companies to carry out modern apprenticeship talent training. Through years of exploration and practice of pilot work, the modern apprenticeship talent training model of "two subjects, four integrations and six co-constructions" has been innovated, and the "shared workshop classroom" teaching model with "five docking, five steps and five sharing" as the main connotation has been summarized and formed, and the project has been successfully accepted. The school makes full use of the school-enterprise communication platform, vigorously cultivates two teams of on-campus tutors and enterprise tutors, and creates a "four-capable" (i.e. "can be both a theoretical teacher and a practical training teacher, can be both a field engineer and an enterprise trainer") dual-teacher team. Among them, the petrochemical technology professional teaching team was rated as a provincial professional teaching team, and stood out in various teaching competitions and skill competitions for guiding students, and won more than 100 provincial and above awards. The school is committed to providing complete vocational training, skill appraisal and green chemical related technical services for petrochemical enterprises and local governments, and has a strong ability to serve regional economic development. The school has established the only national emergency rescue drill simulation training base in the central and southern regions, a national second-level safety training institution, a Hunan Province senior skilled personnel training institution, and a Hunan Province hazardous chemicals and fireworks and firecrackers designated training base. It has all the skill appraisal qualifications required for various positions in petrochemical enterprises. It is a high-quality technical and skilled talent training base in the Chinese petrochemical industry, a high-quality provincial vocational teacher training base, and a designated talent training supply base for central enterprises such as Sinopec, CNPC, and CNOOC. The social training reaches more than 30,000 people each year. Born out of a petrochemical central enterprise, the school has a profound industry background and cultural heritage, and has a glorious tradition and brilliant achievements of hard work and striving for first-class. Over the years, the initial employment rate of our graduates has remained stable at more than 90%, which is higher than the average initial employment rate in Hunan Province, and ranks among the top similar higher vocational colleges. According to the authoritative release of "Focus on Vocational Education", the average monthly salary of graduates ranks 22nd among higher vocational colleges in the country (2nd in Hunan Province). The school passed the first round of talent training level evaluation of the Ministry of Education with excellent grades in 2007; in 2008 and 2015, it was awarded the title of "Hunan Civilized University". Since 2009, the school has been rated as an excellent unit of the "Top Leader Project" for employment of ordinary college graduates in Hunan Province for five consecutive years for 10 years; in 2014, it passed the second round of talent training work evaluation with excellent results of all 22 key evaluation elements; in 2015, it was rated as the first batch of "University Student Employment and Entrepreneurship Demonstration Schools" in Hunan Province; in 2019, it was rated as a demonstration base for innovation and entrepreneurship incubation of college students in Hunan Province; Hunan Province "Double High" plan college.
