Since its establishment in 1991, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has been adhering to the philosophy of innovation, keeping pace with the times, broad-mindedness and originality, and has made great progress in education, scientific research and knowledge transfer. In just three decades, HKUST has risen steadily in the global university rankings and is recognized as the world's leading young university. In the rapidly changing digital age, HKUST, deeply rooted in Hong Kong, is committed to promoting sustainable development of the city. As one of the most open and dynamic economies in the world, Hong Kong, which is closely connected with the mainland, will surely promote urban development to closely follow cutting-edge innovation and technological trends through strengthened cooperation between academia and industry, and help innovators' ideas take root. Looking at the world and looking around Hong Kong, high-end talents are always scarce resources. Therefore, HKUST actively breaks through academic boundaries and continuously integrates multiple disciplines, with the mission of cultivating visionary and harmonious pillars of society. With reference to the past and peers around the world, HKUST has taken the lead in breaking through and actively reconstructing integrated education across traditional academic boundaries, creating new cutting-edge disciplinary knowledge and technology to respond to the ever-changing needs of the general public. The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) (abbreviated as HKUST(Guangzhou)) has a fusion of disciplines, which complements the deep disciplinary foundation of the HKUST Clear Water Bay Campus, demonstrating HKUST's ideals and ambitions to reshape the future education model. HKUST's vision of changing the future is seamlessly aligned with the development planning direction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area as a strategic hub, which will continuously generate comprehensive talents from Hong Kong, Macau, and nine different cities in Guangdong Province. HKUST(Guangzhou) will help strengthen knowledge transfer, which will help Hong Kong to make up for the lack of high-end innovation and technology industries in Hong Kong by leveraging the strong supply chain network in the Mainland. To achieve this vision, HKUST, Guangzhou Municipal People's Government and Guangzhou University signed a tripartite agreement in 2018. According to the agreement, HKUST has received full support from the local government and partners to jointly build HKUST(Guangzhou) in Nansha District, Guangzhou. The application for establishing the school was successfully approved in 2019, and HKUST is sincerely looking forward to the next milestone to arrive as scheduled.
