1. Development Overview Sanya Aviation and Tourism Vocational College was established in 2005. It is controlled by the state-owned enterprise Hainan and recruits students from 29 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) across the country. It currently has more than 50 majors and more than 10,000 students of various types. The school has created a "two aviation and one tourism" specialty cluster with aviation, navigation, and tourism duty-free as its characteristics. It has obtained 5 national-level title majors, 1 national-level excellent teaching team for ideological and political courses, 1 of the first "College Counselor Master Studio" of the Ministry of Education, 9 national and provincial-level boutique online open courses, 3 textbooks selected into the "13th Five-Year Plan" national planning textbooks for vocational education, 3 textbooks selected into the first batch of "14th Five-Year Plan" national planning textbooks for vocational education, and built a Lufthansa Aircraft Maintenance Technology Collaborative Innovation Center of the Ministry of Education. The school has more than 30 training qualifications for civil aircraft maintenance, dangerous goods transportation, aviation safety officers, and unlimited area crew members from the Civil Aviation Administration of China. The school serves as the chairman unit of 4 committees, the vice chairman unit of 1 committee, and the member unit; it takes the lead in establishing 2 vocational education groups and 2 research institutes; and is rated as a "double high" school in Hainan Province in 2022. 2. School Positioning The school relies on Haikong, is based on aviation exemption, serves the free trade, faces the international, and develops in linkage, interaction, and integration with the regional economy. It cultivates technical and skilled talents that meet the needs of the high-end positions in the industrial chain of the free trade port, adheres to the school-running philosophy of "inheriting the virtues of China, endowing useful skills, nurturing the habits of the shipping industry, cultivating the expertise of enterprises, and seeking high-quality employment", and is committed to making the school into a "three major bases" and "one model" with distinctive characteristics and obvious advantages in the "two aviation and one travel" (aviation, navigation, and tourism) majors, namely: talent training and training bases for domestic civil aviation and shipping industries, and talent training and training bases for modern service industries such as tourism, hotel, and logistics industries in Hainan Province, and builds it into a model for large-scale state-owned enterprises in the country. 3. Professional Settings The school enrolls students from 29 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) across the country. The school consists of six secondary colleges, including the Flight Attendant College, Civil Aviation Transport College, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering College, Maritime Engineering College, International Tourism College, and School of Humanities and Social Sciences. It currently has more than 50 enrolling majors, including two national demonstration majors (Civil Aviation Transport and Flight Attendants), two modern apprenticeship pilot majors of the Ministry of Education (Aircraft Mechanical and Electrical Equipment Maintenance, Hotel Management and Digital Operations), one national backbone major (Aircraft Mechanical and Electrical Equipment Maintenance), two Hainan Province high-level professional groups (Aircraft Mechanical and Electrical Equipment Maintenance Professional Group, Flight Attendant Professional Group), and five provincial characteristic backbone majors. 4. School conditions The school has excellent practical teaching conditions and has been approved by the Ministry of Education as the Lufthansa Aircraft Maintenance Collaborative Innovation Platform. It has 12 training centers, including the 147 license training center, aircraft comprehensive maintenance center, flight simulation training center, civil aviation ground service training center, safety officer training center, civil aviation logistics service training center, navigation technology comprehensive training center, marine engineering comprehensive training center, hotel management comprehensive training center, tourism management comprehensive training center, duty-free e-commerce comprehensive training center, and finance and commerce comprehensive training center, with a total of 83 training rooms; 2 flight simulators, 8 training aircraft, 32 aircraft engines, 360° full-view navigation simulators, drones and other training equipment have been introduced, with a total value of about 680 million yuan. 5. Social evaluation The school's development and construction achievements have been recognized by all sectors of society. The then State Councilor Liu Yandong, then Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress Li Jianguo and other national leaders, the then Minister of Education Yuan Guiren, then Minister of Education Zhou Ji, then Vice Minister of Education Lu Xin, then Director of the Civil Aviation Administration of China Yang Yuanyuan, then Executive Deputy Director of the State Maritime Safety Administration Chen Aiping and other leaders of various departments visited the school. On February 9, 2012, the front page of China Education News published a long report titled "Why are the graduates here favored by enterprises? Sanya Aviation and Tourism Vocational College is close to the industry and enterprises to cultivate skilled talents", which reported in detail on the school's adherence to the concept of education reform, innovation of school-running mechanisms and systems, and improvement of talent training quality. On December 3, 2015, the front page of China Civil Aviation News, an authoritative newspaper in China's civil aviation industry, was titled "Industry-Education Integration and School-Enterprise Cooperation-Sanya Aviation and Tourism Vocational College Explores New Paths in Characteristic School-Running", reporting on the school's school-running characteristics and talent training results.
