Hunan Sports Vocational College is a full-time public general higher vocational college approved by the Hunan Provincial People's Government and registered by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China. It was established in May 2002 by merging the Hunan Sports School (founded in 1958) and the Hunan Workers Sports and Technology College (founded in 1984). In 2007, it was evaluated by the Ministry of Education for talent training and reached the "excellent" level. In 2015, it was built into a model (backbone) higher vocational college in Hunan Province. The college has been rated as "Provincial Civilized Campus", "Provincial Safe College", "National Vocational Education Teacher Teaching Innovation Team Training Base", "People's Armed Police Force Sergeant Talent Training Base", "National High-level Sports Reserve Talent Base", "Sports Industry Unique Occupation (National) Training Base", and has trained 9 Olympic champions including Xiong Ni, Gong Zhichao, Yang Xia, Long Qingquan, Wang Mingjuan, Tian Qing, Xiang Yanmei, Hou Zhihui, Chen Lijun, 45 world champions including Tang Jiuhong, and more than 200 Asian and national champions. It is known as the cradle of champions. The school conditions are excellent. The college covers an area of about 500 acres, with 368 faculty and staff members, nearly 6,000 students enrolled, and has 8 teaching institutions and 3 auxiliary teaching institutions, including seven colleges and one school, including the Sergeant College. There are 11 majors, including sports training and physical education; there are 40 on-campus internship and training rooms (bases) and 1 "productive" internship and training base jointly built by the school and the enterprise. The college adheres to the school-running goal of "running a university that satisfies the people and cultivating excellent sports craftsmen", and condenses the excellent sports craftsman education concept of "letting interest arise in learning, let knowledge be mastered in research, let ability be improved in training, let quality be cultivated in competition, and let talent be tempered in industry". It has constructed a five-ring talent training model of "five grids and five abilities" target ring, "government, business, enterprise, school and society" mechanism ring, "learning, research, training and competition integration" teaching ring, "truth, goodness, beauty and creation" activity ring, and "business, enterprise, society, school and student" evaluation ring. It has cultivated a large number of excellent competitive sports talents, primary school physical education teachers, military physical fitness coaches, social sports instructors, sports health rehabilitation personnel, sports management personnel and other excellent sports craftsmen urgently needed by sports industry enterprises, and has been well received by the society and employers. Sports competitions have repeatedly achieved good results. The college has achieved successive successes in the 26th to 32nd Olympic Games and the 7th to 14th National Games, making significant contributions to Hunan's competitive sports ranking among and consolidating the forefront of the country. It has won the honorary titles of "Advanced Collective in Completing the Tasks of the National Games", "Advanced Collective in the National Sports System" and "Advanced Unit in National Mass Sports Work".
