Fujian Vocational College of Art is the only public full-time comprehensive higher art college in Fujian Province and is directly affiliated to the Fujian Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism. In 1958, the school's predecessor, "Fujian Art College", was born in Sanfang Qixiang. According to changes in national education policies, it has undergone many adjustments and was upgraded from "Fujian Art School" to "Fujian Vocational College of Art" in 2005. The current president of the school, Sun Li, is a famous baritone singer, opera performing artist, national first-class actor, professor, and doctoral supervisor. On December 1, 1998, General Secretary Xi Jinping made an important instruction to the school that "the spring of the Fujian Art Garden is always there, and the monument should be built to cultivate people". The school has always adhered to the fundamental task of cultivating morality and educating people, and has made great progress in various undertakings. In 2008, it passed the first round of talent training evaluation of the Ministry of Education, and in 2016, it passed the second round of talent training evaluation of the Ministry of Education. In 2021, it was selected as a high-level vocational college and professional construction plan unit in Fujian Province. The school is one of the first pilot universities for the training program for the inheritors of intangible cultural heritage in China, a project construction unit of the national action plan for improving the quality of cultural and artistic vocational education and tourism vocational education, and the first community member unit of the Ministry of Education's information-based support for vocational colleges and enterprises. It is a national intangible cultural heritage talent training base, a productive training base and a dual-teacher base for the Ministry of Education's higher vocational education innovation and development action plan, a provincial-level demonstration base for Chinese excellent traditional culture education, and a provincial-level vocational college skills competition base. It is also the initiator of the Fujian Provincial Culture and Tourism Promotion Association and a member of the think tank of the Provincial Government Development Research Center. It was awarded the title of "Institution of Intangible Cultural Heritage Education Characteristics" by the China Vocational Education Society. The school is located in Minhou County, Fuzhou City, covering an area of nearly 200 acres. There are more than 5,600 students and 308 faculty and staff, including 237 full-time teachers and 19 senior professional titles. Teachers have won 8 provincial-level and above education and teaching achievement awards (1 national second prize), and won 6 awards in provincial-level and above teaching ability competitions; students have won 455 awards (69 national-level) in various professional competitions such as national and provincial vocational college skills competitions. The school was invited to participate in the opening and closing ceremonies of the 19th Asian Games, the large-scale cultural performances celebrating the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Party, the parade performances celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of New China, and the opening ceremony of the 44th World Heritage Conference. The school has been praised by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the provincial party committee and government for many times. The school has 7 secondary colleges including the Conservatory of Music, the School of Fine Arts and Design, the School of Dance, the Fujian-Taiwan Drama Academy (Drama and Film Academy), the School of Fashion Design, the School of Art Education, the National Art Academy (Cultural Tourism Academy), and the School of Marxism and the Department of Public Teaching. A total of 26 higher vocational majors and 3 secondary vocational majors are offered. Among them, the art design professional group is a provincial high-level professional group, the modern creative design professional group is a provincial service industry characteristic professional group, the dance major is the first batch of national vocational colleges for national cultural inheritance and innovation demonstration majors, art design, ceramic design and technology majors are national backbone majors, and tea culture, ceramic art design, arts and crafts design, clothing and apparel design majors are provincial innovation and entrepreneurship education reform pilot majors. Music performance, dance performance and other majors are jointly built with the China Conservatory of Music, Shanghai Dance School (Dance School Affiliated to Shanghai Theatre Academy).
