Nanjing Tourism Vocational College is affiliated to the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism. Its predecessor was Jiangsu Tourism School and Jinling Hotel Management Cadre College. Jiangsu Tourism School was established in 1978. It is the earliest technical secondary school in China that specializes in training tourism talents. The school is located in Huyi Town, Yixing, Jiangsu. It moved to Nanjing in 1984 and was renamed Nanjing Tourism School. Jinling Hotel Management Cadre College was established in 1989 and was jointly invested and built by the former National Tourism Administration and the People's Government of Jiangsu Province. It was the only adult education college in China that specializes in training hotel management talents at that time. In 2001, the two schools merged and began to recruit and train a small number of three-year vocational students. In October 2007, with the approval of the Jiangsu Provincial People's Government and the filing of the Ministry of Education, it was officially renamed Nanjing Tourism Vocational College and began to recruit three-year general high school students nationwide. The college passed the talent training level assessment of the Ministry of Education in 2011, was selected as a model vocational college in Jiangsu Province in 2018, and was selected as a construction unit of Jiangsu Province's high-level vocational colleges with Chinese characteristics in 2022. The college currently has two campuses in Jiangning and Huayangang, covering an area of 427 acres and 7,304 full-time students. It consists of 9 teaching units including the School of Hotel Management, School of Tourism Management, School of Cooking and Nutrition, School of Humanities and Arts, School of Tourism and Foreign Languages, School of Continuing Education, School of Marxism, Basic Department, and Sports Department, as well as industry-university-research service institutions such as the Royal Crown Hotel, Jiangsu Zijin Tourism Planning and Design Institute, Jiangsu Central Hotel Management Consulting Company, and Jiangsu Tourism Culture Research Institute. The college currently has 348 faculty and staff, 87.46% of full-time teachers have master's degrees and doctoral degrees, and 84.15% of "double-qualified" teachers. The college has 46 national hotel star reviewers, A-level tourist attraction review experts, 1 provincial "young and middle-aged expert with outstanding contributions", 4 provincial "333 Project" training targets, 2 provincial teaching masters, 30 young and middle-aged academic leaders and backbone teachers of the provincial "Qinglan Project", 3 provincial "Qinglan Project" excellent teaching teams, 1 provincial vocational education teacher teaching innovation team, and 1 leader of the "double-teacher" famous teacher studio cultivation project. The college offers 27 majors closely related to the culture and tourism industry, 4 provincial high-level vocational school professional groups with Chinese characteristics, 1 provincial high-level professional group of higher vocational education, 2 provincial key construction professional groups, 1 national vocational school tourism demonstration major, 2 majors supported by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance, 1 provincial A-class brand major, 4 provincial high-level backbone majors, 2 provincial characteristic majors, 1 provincial international talent training brand major, and 5 UNWTO tourism education quality certification majors. There are 1 vocational education training base supported by the central government, 1 national tourism vocational education school-enterprise cooperation demonstration base, 2 provincial higher vocational demonstration training bases, 2 provincial industry-education deep integration training platforms, 1 provincial cultural and tourism key laboratory, 1 provincial professional teaching resource library, 1 provincial demonstration virtual simulation training base, 1 university hotel museum and 1 cooking museum. The college has won 3 national teaching achievement awards, 1 national teaching achievement award, 8 Jiangsu teaching achievement awards, and 1 Jiangsu education research achievement award. 2 national online boutique courses, 5 provincial online boutique courses, 14 provincial online open courses, 1 provincial curriculum ideological and political demonstration course, 1 provincial aesthetic education boutique course, and 21 "14th Five-Year Plan" vocational education national planning textbooks. Won 2 first prizes and 2 second prizes in the National Vocational College Skills Competition Teaching Ability Competition (including information-based teaching competition), and 10 first prizes and 9 second prizes in the Jiangsu Vocational College Teaching Ability Competition (including information-based teaching competition). Since 2012, the college has represented Jiangsu in the National Vocational College Skills Competition and won 42 first prizes, ranking among the top similar colleges in the country. The college closely relies on the culture and tourism industry, and has signed strategic cooperation agreements with well-known domestic and foreign tourism companies such as InterContinental Hotels Group, Jinling Hotel Group, Beijing Guanghui Jintong Education Technology Co., Ltd., Blue Frog Catering Group, and Maxim's Group, forming a series of fruitful school-enterprise cooperation and production-education integration education models. The college gives full play to the service advantages of school-run enterprises such as Jiangsu Central Hotel Management Consulting Company and Jiangsu Zijin Tourism Planning and Design Institute and the intellectual advantages of research institutes such as hotels, cooking, and intangible cultural heritage, and actively serves the industry and society. It has provided consulting and management services to more than 200 high-star hotels in 23 provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the central government) across the country. For many consecutive years, it has undertaken and completed the training projects of the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism to aid Tibet and Xinjiang and the training projects of secondary and higher vocational education teachers of the Provincial Department of Education, and has been awarded the "Excellent Training Project for Secondary Vocational Education Teachers in Jiangsu Province" and so on. From 2016 to 2020, 10 batches of "Training Program for Inheritors of Chinese Intangible Cultural Heritage" were completed, contributing to the innovative development and creative transformation of intangible cultural heritage. More than 60 special planning and design services such as tourism development master plan and scenic spots and rural tourism areas were provided to governments and enterprises. It presided over or participated in the formulation of a number of national technical trades and industries, local government norms and standards, as well as national vocational education professional teaching standards and practical training conditions standards. The college adheres to the path of internationalization, conducts all-round and multi-level educational exchanges and cooperation with 33 colleges and universities in 16 countries (regions), and builds a training and employment platform with 54 overseas companies. It has two Sino-foreign cooperative education projects such as hotel management and digital operation and western food technology. Among them, the Sino-Australian cooperative education project in hotel management was identified as the first batch of high-level demonstration projects of Sino-foreign cooperative education in higher vocational colleges in Jiangsu Province in 2016. Every year, the number of students studying abroad, employed and studying abroad remains at around 200, accounting for more than 10% of the total number of graduates. The college has been rated as "Advanced School of International Cooperation and Exchange in Education in Jiangsu Province" twice. Over the past 45 years, the college has adhered to the school motto of "serving the society with a smile and knowledge", adhered to the school-running direction of "refinement, internationalization, humanization, and specialization", fully implemented the fundamental task of cultivating people with moral integrity, and continuously deepened the integration of production and education, school-enterprise cooperation, and deeply promoted the reform of education methods, school-running models, management systems, and guarantee mechanisms.
