Wuhan Textile University is one of the first batch of universities in the country to be included in the "Basic Capacity Building Project for Colleges and Universities in Central and Western China", a university implementing the "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program" of the Ministry of Education, a university in the construction of "Domestic First-Class Disciplines" in Hubei Province, and one of the top ten fashion schools in China. The school came into being in the call for the revitalization of the national light industry in New China. Its predecessor was Wuhan Textile Institute of Technology, which was founded in 1958. It was renamed Wuhan Institute of Technology in 1999. Hubei Foreign Trade School and Hubei Finance and Economics College were successively incorporated. In 2010, it was renamed Wuhan Textile University. The school adheres to the socialist direction of running schools, fully implements the party's education policy, upholds the school motto of "respecting truth and pursuing beauty", promotes the university spirit of "self-improvement and transcending the world", takes the construction of a distinctive high-level university as its strategic goal, and adheres to characteristic development and open education. In accordance with the "Charter of Wuhan Textile University", the school, based on the improvement of the modern university system, has made great progress in talent training, scientific research, social services, cultural inheritance and innovation, international exchanges and cooperation, and has gradually become a general university with coordinated development of multiple disciplines, distinctive characteristics and outstanding advantages. The university adheres to the discipline construction idea of "one leading, multiple advancement, highlighting characteristics, and coordinated development", and has established five major departments, 20 colleges (departments) and 3 research institutes, covering 8 disciplines including science, engineering, literature, law, economics, management, art, and cross-disciplinary. It has 15 first-level disciplines authorized by master's degree and 10 master's professional degree authorization categories. There are 8 first-level key disciplines in Hubei Province and 5 provincial advantageous and characteristic disciplines. The three discipline groups of "Advanced Manufacturing and Textile Equipment", "Creative Design and Exquisite Manufacturing" and "Big Data and Smart Management" are included in the key construction of the advantageous and characteristic discipline groups of provincial universities in Hubei Province during the "14th Five-Year Plan". Textile Science and Engineering has been selected as the "Key Construction Discipline of Provincial Universities' First-Class Disciplines" in Hubei Province. Three disciplines including materials science, chemistry, and engineering have entered the top 1% of the ESI global ranking. The school implements the leading talent introduction and cultivation project to create a team of "four-good" teachers with ideals and beliefs, moral sentiments, solid knowledge, and benevolence. There are more than 2,200 faculty and staff and more than 1,600 full-time teachers. The university has independently trained one academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and one academician of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, and employed nine academicians of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences; more than 30 national talents and more than 270 provincial talents. The university was selected into the "Innovation and Intelligence Introduction Program for Disciplines in Higher Education Institutions" (referred to as the "111 Program") of local universities, and is the first batch of "Innovation and Entrepreneurship Bases for Overseas High-level Talents in Hubei Province", with a group of "Sunshine Scholars" with overseas study backgrounds. The university implements the fundamental task of cultivating people with moral integrity, adheres to the "five-pronged education", innovates the "five ideological and political education", builds an "output-oriented" talent training system, vigorously carries out the construction of "new engineering and new liberal arts", vigorously cultivates an innovative culture, and strives to cultivate compound and application-oriented innovative talents with comprehensive development of morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics and labor. The university currently has more than 24,000 full-time students at all levels and types. There are 70 undergraduate majors, including 4 national specialty majors, 17 national first-class professional construction sites, 4 engineering education certification majors of the Ministry of Education, 8 majors of the "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program", 7 Hubei brand majors, and 16 provincial first-class professional construction sites. The school has a national teaching team and a national talent training model reform experimental zone. It has 12 national first-class undergraduate courses, 6 national high-quality open courses, 1 new engineering research and practice project of the Ministry of Education, and 2 new liberal arts research and reform practice projects. In recent years, it has won 2 national teaching achievement awards and 31 provincial and ministerial teaching achievement special awards and first prizes. The school insists on being student-centered, continuously improving the student growth service system, creating a good development environment for students, and continuously improving students' innovation, practical ability and comprehensive quality. Students have won 16 national "Challenge Cup" awards, including 2 special awards in the main competition, and won the national "Champion Cup"; won the national outstanding unit of the National Three Going to the Countryside Summer Social Practice, and 31 provincial social practice honors; won 2 gold medals in the National Youth Volunteer Service Project Competition, 1 National Youth Volunteer Excellent Project Award, and approved 6 provincial "Benyu Volunteer Service Teams"; 12 people were awarded the "China University Student Self-improvement Star" and 4 "China Telecom Scholarship" by the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League. The employment rate of graduates exceeds 92%, and graduates have become and are becoming the backbone of their fields. The school actively participates in the construction of national and regional innovation systems, and actively serves the transformation and upgrading of the textile industry and the local economic and social development. It has key research bases such as the National Key Laboratory of New Textile Materials and Advanced Processing Technology, the National and Local Joint Engineering Laboratory, the Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education, the Engineering Research Center of the Ministry of Education, and the National Base for the Inheritance of Chinese Excellent Traditional Culture in General Colleges and Universities, as well as a number of new school-local and school-enterprise research and development institutions. It has successively undertaken more than 600 national and provincial and ministerial scientific research projects such as national fund projects and national key research and development plans. A number of scientific research results have reached the international and domestic advanced level, and have distinct characteristics and advantages in the fields of textiles, printing and dyeing, clothing and art design. In recent years, the school has won 1 first prize and 3 second prizes in the National Science and Technology Progress Award, 2 second prizes in the National Technological Invention Award, 1 second prize and 2 third prizes in the Outstanding Achievements in Social Sciences of Higher Education Institutions, and 5 art works selected for the National Art Exhibition. The school pays attention to the transformation of results. It has been included in the "China University Patent Transfer Ranking (TOP100)" for many consecutive years. The registration amount of technical service contracts ranks among the top universities in the province. A number of school-local and school-enterprise cooperation projects have been implemented in more than 10 provinces, which have produced significant economic and social benefits. The school pays attention to the introduction of high-quality foreign educational resources and continuously improves its internationalization level. The school is a Chinese government scholarship entrusted training unit, the first member of the "European Textile University Alliance" in mainland China, a member of the "British Textile Society" and the "American Fiber Society", and a local cooperative university of the China-Central and Eastern European Countries (17+1) University Alliance. The school has established the first Sino-foreign humanities exchange research institute of the Ministry of Education, and has the first undergraduate Sino-foreign cooperative school-running institution in Hubei Province-Wuhan Textile University Birmingham Fashion and Creative College. It has carried out undergraduate cooperative education projects with Bunka Gakuen University in Japan, jointly trained doctoral students with relevant universities in Australia, the United States, Russia, and the Czech Republic, and signed international exchange and cooperation agreements with nearly 200 universities in the United Kingdom, the United States, France, Germany, Australia, Russia, Japan, South Korea and other countries. The university started to undertake the foreign aid projects of the Ministry of Commerce in 2006, and has successfully held more than 100 foreign aid projects, training more than 2,000 government officials and technical personnel from more than 90 countries or regions. The tide is high and the two banks are wide, and the wind is right and the sails are hoisted.
