Xinjiang Railway Vocational and Technical College is the only full-time public general higher vocational college in the autonomous region that focuses on cultivating talents in rail transit. It is under the management of the Autonomous Region Human Resources and Social Security Department. The school currently has three campuses: Urumqi Beijing Road Campus, Tianjin Road Campus and Hami Campus, with a total area of more than 940 acres and a building area of 140,000 square meters. There are more than 7,600 full-time students, and 6,000 people complete various training and appraisals each year. There are nearly 300 full-time teachers, nearly 100 people with associate senior titles or above, and more than 100 part-time teachers in industry enterprises. There is 1 member of the National Railway Industry Vocational Education and Teaching Steering Committee, 6 members of the National Railway Industry Professional Teaching Steering Committee, 1 excellent teaching team in the autonomous region, 1 national excellent teacher, and 2 "Outstanding Teachers Award" of the Huang Yanpei Vocational Education Award. The school library has a collection of more than 260,000 books, 5T electronic documents, and 107 journals. A gigabit campus backbone network and network center have been built, and the campus network covers all office and teaching places of the school. The university has six secondary colleges, including the School of Transportation Management Engineering, the School of Information Management Engineering, the School of Mechanical Engineering, the School of Civil Engineering, the School of Electrical Engineering, and the School of Public Basics, and a Department of Ideological and Political Education (Basic Preparatory Course). It offers two undergraduate majors, 26 higher vocational majors in rail transit, and seven secondary vocational majors, forming a professional structure of "one body and two wings" with the professional group of "vehicle, machine, engineering, electricity, vehicle and power supply" of rail transit as the main body, and advanced manufacturing and modern service majors as the two wings. The university has 140 internship (training) rooms (fields) for railway, urban rail, electromechanical, and tourism service majors, including two training bases supported by the central government and two productive training bases of the Ministry of Education; it has built a high-speed rail training station covering an area of 52,000 square meters, the only one in the northwest, connected to the main line, and trains enter the campus. It is a comprehensive railway productive training base integrating professional practical teaching, social training, skill appraisal, technical competition, and project research. In the more than 40 years of running the school, the school has fully implemented the party's education policy, adhered to the development strategy of "quality-based school, talent-based school, law-based school, distinctive school, and cultural school", and condensed the spirit of the new railway vocational college of "hard work, selfless dedication, integrity and innovation, and pursuit of excellence". Batches of students from the new railway vocational college, like desert poplars and Gobi red willows, are rooted in the north and south of the Tianshan Mountains and the Gobi desert, and struggle on thousands of miles of railway lines, making outstanding contributions to the prosperity and stability of the frontier. The school has built a national high-skilled talent training base, an autonomous region high-skilled talent training base, a China Railway Group locomotive driver training base, a National Railway Administration national railway locomotive and vehicle driver qualification examination test site, and a China Railway Urumqi Bureau Group Company employee training base. It is the chairman unit of the Xinjiang Rail Transit Vocational Education Group, the chairman unit of the Hami Vocational Education Alliance, the vice chairman unit of the Autonomous Region Secondary Industry Vocational Education Park, the executive vice chairman unit of the Xinjiang Logistics Society, and the vice chairman unit of the Xinjiang Local Railway Association. It is known as the "Whampoa Military Academy" of the China Railway Urumqi Bureau.
