Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine was founded in 1956 and is one of the four earliest Chinese medicine colleges and universities established in New China. Formerly known as Chengdu College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, it was renamed Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1995. After more than 60 years of construction and development, it has become a high-level Chinese medicine university with distinctive characteristics, with Chinese medicine as the main discipline, and with medicine and health-related disciplines supporting each other and developing in a coordinated manner. It is a university jointly built by the Ministry of Education, the People's Government of Sichuan Province, and the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, a university in the new round of "Double First-Class" construction in the country, and a national base for discipline innovation and intelligence introduction in higher education institutions. The school covers an area of about 1,800 acres, has 20 colleges, 39 undergraduate majors, and more than 26,000 full-time students, including more than 5,200 graduate students. The school is one of the first batch of doctoral and master's degree authorization points in Chinese medicine, and the first batch of clinical medicine (master, doctor) professional degree pilot units. In the early days of the school, the school trained the first batch of undergraduate graduates and master's students of Chinese medicine and Chinese medicine in New China, and trained the first doctor of Chinese medicine, the first postdoctoral fellow of Chinese medicine, and the first doctor of otorhinolaryngology in New China. There are 3 first-level doctoral degree authorization points, 29 second-level doctoral degree authorization points, 8 first-level master's degree authorization points, 63 second-level master's degree authorization points, and 3 postdoctoral mobile stations. The school has 1 national "Double First-Class" construction discipline (Traditional Chinese Medicine), 4 national key disciplines (Traditional Chinese Medicine, Acupuncture and Massage, Chinese Otorhinolaryngology, Chinese Gynecology), 5 "Double First-Class" construction disciplines of Sichuan Province's higher education institutions in the Gongga Plan (Traditional Chinese Medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, Nursing, Clinical Medicine), 44 provincial and ministerial key disciplines, and 3 ESI top 1% disciplines in the world (Pharmacology and Toxicology, Clinical Medicine, Chemistry). The school has 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 4 national medical masters, 5 national famous Chinese medicine practitioners, 5 national teaching masters, 2 winners of the National Outstanding Contribution Award for Traditional Chinese Medicine, 1 chief scientist of the National "973 Program", 3 national outstanding scientific and technological workers, 14 experts of the "Qihuang Project"; 20 national high-level talents such as the National Outstanding Youth Science Fund, the National Natural Science Foundation Outstanding Youth Fund, and national specially-appointed experts; 1 national outstanding professional and technical talent, 2 members of the State Council Discipline Evaluation Group, 98 experts enjoying special allowances from the State Council; approved as a national higher education discipline innovation and intelligence base. 2 Huang Danian-style teacher teams were selected for national universities, 3 national Chinese medicine innovation teams, and 49 national old Chinese medicine experts were selected as instructors for the inheritance of academic experience. 19 people have won provincial and ministerial titles such as the Sichuan Provincial Outstanding Contribution Award for Science and Technology, the Sichuan Provincial Outstanding Talent Award, the Sichuan Provincial Famous Teacher of Teaching and Educating People, and the Sichuan Provincial Top Ten Famous Chinese Medicine Practitioners, and 55 Sichuan Provincial Specially-appointed Experts. The school has 11 national first-class professional construction sites and 14 provincial first-class majors; 18 national first-class courses and 98 provincial first-class courses; 3 national excellent teaching teams and 5 provincial excellent teaching teams; the school is a provincial demonstration university for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform, the first batch of national innovation and entrepreneurship education practice bases, and provincial mass entrepreneurship and innovation demonstration bases; 1 national talent training model innovation experimental zone and 2 provincial talent training innovation experimental zones. The first National Demonstration Center for Clinical Teaching and Training of Traditional Chinese Medicine won 2 first prizes and 4 second prizes for national teaching achievements, 1 special prize for excellent teaching achievements in Sichuan Province, 15 first prizes, and 7 second prizes. As the editor-in-chief or deputy editor-in-chief of textbooks, the school has completed the compilation of more than 100 industry planning textbooks, and the number of editors ranks among the top three in Chinese medicine colleges and universities in the country. In the selection of the first national textbook construction award, 3 editor-in-chief textbooks won the national second prize, and 6 deputy editors won 1 special prize, 1 first prize, and 4 second prizes, ranking first among Chinese medicine colleges and universities in the country. In the past five years, 3,303 new scientific research projects of various types have been added, including 331 national projects such as the National Key R&D Program, the National Natural Science Foundation, and the National Social Science Foundation. 88 scientific and technological awards of various levels and types have been obtained, including 1 Provincial Science and Technology Outstanding Contribution Award, 1 Provincial Outstanding Youth Science and Technology Innovation Award, 1 Provincial International Science and Technology Cooperation Award, 5 Provincial Science and Technology Awards First Prize and 9 Second Prizes. The school actively carries out a variety of campus cultural arts, science and technology, social practice, volunteer service, innovation and entrepreneurship activities, and has formed a series of "Xinglin" campus cultural brands with the characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine culture. In the past five years, students have won more than 210 national and provincial academic research and innovation and entrepreneurship competition awards, volunteer service competition awards, cultural and art competition awards, etc., and won the National Gold Award of the China International "Internet +" College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition. The school has 82 laboratories of various levels and types, including the National Key Laboratory of Southwestern Chinese Medicine Resources, a national experimental teaching demonstration center, a national virtual simulation experimental teaching center for traditional Chinese medicine, a national and local joint engineering research center for Chinese medicine preparation, a national germplasm resource bank for traditional Chinese medicine (Sichuan), a key laboratory of the Ministry of Education, an engineering research center of the Ministry of Education, a key research room of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, a research laboratory of traditional Chinese medicine (level 3) of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, a key laboratory of Sichuan Province, a 2011 collaborative innovation center of Sichuan Province, and a key laboratory of the Sichuan Federation of Social Sciences. The school's affiliated hospital (Sichuan Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine) is a national traditional Chinese medicine inheritance and innovation center and clinical research center, a provincial clinical medical research center for traditional Chinese medicine endocrine and metabolic diseases, a clinical medical research center for traditional Chinese medicine cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, and a traditional Chinese medicine evidence-based medicine center. The school currently has 4 directly affiliated hospitals, 8 non-directly affiliated hospitals, 4 directly affiliated hospitals, and 103 member units of the medical alliance. The university has established the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle TCM Development Alliance, the Western China TCM University Alliance, and the Sichuan TCM Health Industry Technology Innovation Alliance. It has also established the first board of directors of Chengdu University of TCM, and has established strategic partnerships with more than 50 local governments, and industry-university-research-application partnerships with more than 100 enterprises, institutions, and academic institutions. It is a national pilot unit for "granting scientific research personnel ownership or long-term use rights of their scientific and technological achievements" and a "national intellectual property pilot university". The school has established the "Kiehl School of Health and Medicine", a Sino-foreign cooperatively-run institution, with the "Portugal Branch", "South Africa Branch", "Canada Branch", etc.; jointly built the Chengdu University of Chinese Medicine (Macau) International College with the Guangdong-Macao Cooperation Traditional Chinese Medicine Science and Technology Industrial Park; established branches of the Chengdu University of Chinese Medicine Affiliated Hospital in Montenegro, Germany, and Belarus; and built the "China-Tajikistan Traditional Medicine Center" in Tajikistan; it is the "China-ASEAN Education and Training Center" of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Education, the "International Science and Technology Cooperation Base" of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the "International Cooperation (Education and Medical) Base of Traditional Chinese Medicine" of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the "Human Reproduction Research Cooperation Center" of the World Health Organization, and the "South-South Cooperation Training Center" of the United Nations Population Fund.
