Xiantao Vocational College is a public full-time general college approved by the People's Government of Hubei Province and registered by the Ministry of Education of China. Its predecessor was the Hubei Provincial No. 1 Normal School founded in 1939. It was established in 2001 on the basis of Xiantao Normal School and Xiantao Health School. In 2020, it was recognized as a high-quality junior college by the Provincial Department of Education. In 2022, it was approved by the Provincial Department of Education and the Provincial Department of Finance as one of the 29 "Double High" Plan (high-level vocational colleges, high-level professional groups) construction colleges in the province, and ranked among the first echelon of higher vocational education in the province. The college covers an area of 988 acres, with a school building area of more than 400,000 square meters, a total value of more than 98.59 million yuan in teaching instruments and equipment, and a collection of more than 800,000 books of various types; there are 822 faculty and staff, including 217 full and associate professors; there are 6 national-level productive training bases, 1 national-level "dual-qualified" teacher training base, and 5 provincial-level training bases. The college has 8 secondary colleges, including the Medical College, the Education College, the Mechanical and Electronic Engineering College, the Nonwovens Industry College, the Economics and Management College, the Computer Science and Technology College, the Continuing Education and Training College, and the Xiantao Polytechnic Secondary Vocational School (Xiantao Senior Technical School). It offers 28 higher vocational majors and 14 secondary vocational majors, among which nursing, Internet of Things application technology, and e-commerce are national key majors, mechatronics technology is a national modern apprenticeship major, preschool education and accounting are majors supported by the central government, electronic information engineering technology, nursing, and clinical medicine are brand majors in Hubei Province, rehabilitation therapy technology, Internet of Things application technology, automobile application and maintenance, electromechanical equipment installation and maintenance, and arts and crafts are Hubei Province's characteristic majors, and primary education is a joint training major. The college currently has more than 20,000 students of various types, and has won more than 700 awards in national and provincial skill competitions, and the employment rate of graduates remains above 95%.
