The Rehabilitation University is a public undergraduate school sponsored by the Shandong Provincial People's Government and jointly supported by the Ministry of Education, China Disabled Persons' Federation, National Health Commission and other national ministries and commissions and Qingdao City. It is positioned as a new type of research university, focusing on basic and cutting-edge scientific and technological research and cultivating top innovative talents. Based on serving the national strategy, the Rehabilitation University has been included in the "Outline of the 13th Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development of the People's Republic of China" and the "Outline of the 14th Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development of the People's Republic of China and the Long-Term Goals for 2035". The school adheres to the world vision, international standards and Chinese characteristics, adheres to the "high starting point, high level and internationalization" school-running philosophy, and is committed to cultivating compound top innovative talents with advanced rehabilitation concepts and independent innovation spirit who can lead the development of rehabilitation. Since 2020, it has successively carried out strategic cooperation with Peking University, Shandong University, Sichuan University, Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, China Rehabilitation Research Center and other units to jointly train doctoral students. The Rehabilitation University adheres to the demand orientation, is based on the frontier intersection, practices new medicine, new engineering, and new liberal arts, and actively builds a large rehabilitation discipline professional system led by "rehabilitation +", with medicine, science, and engineering as the main body, and coordinated development of cross-field and multidisciplinary disciplines such as management, education, and sociology. At present, there are five colleges (departments): the School of Rehabilitation Science and Engineering, the School of Life Sciences and Health, the School of Social Development, the School of Clinical Medicine, and the Department of Public Teaching. The first batch of enrollment majors in 2024 are rehabilitation physical therapy, rehabilitation occupational therapy, biomedical engineering, bioinformatics, and clinical medicine. The Rehabilitation University has gathered a high-level faculty team, of which more than half have professional and technical positions of associate senior or above, more than 90% have doctoral degrees, more than 80% graduated from domestic double first-class universities and have overseas study and work experience, and more than one-fifth of high-level talents such as academicians and national outstanding young people. It has three affiliated hospitals: Qingdao Central Hospital of Rehabilitation University (1953-, a tertiary-level A comprehensive hospital), Qingdao Hospital of Rehabilitation University (1916-, a tertiary-level A comprehensive hospital), and Qingdao Rehabilitation Hospital of Rehabilitation University (a tertiary specialized hospital). The school has built research bases and platforms such as the Rehabilitation International Global Cooperation Research Center, the Rehabilitation International Global Autism Research Center, and the Sports Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center.
