Taiyuan Tourism Vocational College is the earliest college in Shanxi Province to offer tourism professional education. It is a model vocational college in Shanxi Province, a high-quality school construction unit in Shanxi Province, the chairman unit of the Teaching Guidance Committee of Tourism and Catering Majors in Shanxi Province, a member of the Board of Directors of the Education Branch of the China Tourism Association, the Taiyuan Regional Center Branch of the International Golden Key College, a group member of the China Vocational Education Society, an executive director unit of the 4th Council of the China Vocational and Technical Education Society, a member of the Shanxi Vocational Skills Appraisal Association, a member of the Shanxi Tourism Standards Committee, the chairman unit of the Tourism Education Professional Committee of the Shanxi Vocational and Technical Education Society, the vice chairman unit of the Shanxi Hotel Association, the vice chairman and secretary-general unit of the Shanxi Tourism Association, and the vice chairman unit of the Shanxi Convention and Exhibition Association; the college is organized by the Taiyuan Municipal People's Government, managed by the Taiyuan Municipal Education Bureau, and accepts business guidance from the Shanxi Provincial Department of Education. Its predecessor was Taiyuan Tourism School, which was established in June 1984. It recruited students majoring in tour guides and hotel services and officially started tourism professional education. In April 1994, Taiyuan Tourism Vocational School was changed to Taiyuan Tourism Vocational Secondary School. In 2000, it jointly established a school with Beijing International Studies University to establish the Higher Vocational Department of Beijing International Studies University Taiyuan Tourism Vocational School, which is the first college in Shanxi Province to offer tourism professional education. In May 2004, it was approved by the Shanxi Provincial People's Government and registered by the Ministry of Education to establish a higher vocational college at the junior college level, and was renamed Taiyuan Tourism Vocational College. The college is located at No. 19, Dachang South Road, Xiaodian District, Taiyuan City. The campus covers an area of 344.12 acres (including 313.82 acres of the new campus on Dachang South Road and 30.3 acres of the No. 1 Middle School Campus), with a construction area of 140,049.8 square meters and fixed assets of 356.205 million yuan. It has 1 national second-class gymnasium (which hosted the women's volleyball competition of the Second Youth Games), 48 on-campus training bases; the collection of paper books is 371,000 volumes, and the electronic books are 1.028 million volumes. The average teaching and administrative space per student is 16.9 square meters, the average teaching and scientific research equipment is worth 14,200 yuan per student, the average number of books per student is 80.2, the maximum bandwidth of the campus network backbone is 400 megabytes, and 100% of the indoor teaching places are covered by multimedia. The college has 389 faculty and staff and more than 6,400 students. Among them, there are 248 full-time teachers, the number of teachers with master's degrees accounts for 89.4% of full-time young teachers (under 45 years old), the number of teachers with associate professors or above accounts for 33.87% of full-time teachers, and the student-teacher ratio is 16.69; there are 84 teachers with associate professors or above; 40 teachers have studied abroad (36 of them studied abroad); 165 "double-qualified" teachers, including 2 national excellent tour guides; 5 provincial "double-qualified" teaching masters; 9 provincial "double-qualified" excellent teachers; 5 "Sanjin Talents" top-notch backbone talents; 17 "double-qualified" teacher training projects of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism's Ten Thousand Tourism Talents Plan, and 20 practical service talents projects of the Ten Thousand Tourism Talents Plan. The college ranks among the top in the core professional competitiveness rankings of national tourism higher vocational colleges. The college has 7 departments including the Department of Hotel Management, Department of Tourism Management, Department of Tourism Foreign Languages, Department of Information Management, Department of Planning and Art, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, and Department of Ideological and Political Education. It offers 41 majors including hotel management, cooking technology and nutrition, scenic spot development and management, exhibition planning and management, tourism English, applied Korean, tourism management, tour guide, flight attendant, modern logistics, marketing, etc., of which 33 are enrolled majors. At present, there is 1 second prize of national teaching achievement, 1 national quality course, 8 provincial quality courses, 7 municipal quality courses, and 55 college-level quality courses; 1 demonstration base for school-enterprise cooperation in tourism vocational education of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism; 2 national vocational education training bases, 8 provincial training bases; 1 national demonstration major, 2 national key construction majors, 2 national central financial support major construction projects, 5 provincial key construction majors, 5 provincial backbone majors, 2 provincial characteristic majors; 1 provincial modern apprenticeship pilot unit; 1 provincial teaching resource library; 8 provincial vocational education quality training bases. In the past three years, students have won a total of 15 first prizes, 23 second prizes, and 33 third prizes in national skill competitions sponsored by the Ministry of Education, the National Tourism Education Committee and other national ministries and industry associations. They have won a total of 5 first prizes and 9 second prizes in the group. It is the higher vocational college with the most awards in Shanxi Province in the National Tourism Skill Competition; there are more than 130 internship units with fixed cooperation for more than two years, and the one-time employment rate in 2019 reached 82.88%; the college has established cooperative relations with more than 10 overseas schools. The college has two national-level practical training demonstration bases, three national-level central government-supported professional construction projects, eight provincial vocational education demonstration training bases, three business-oriented professional entities, and the only scenic spot in the country managed and operated by a professional college - Hougou Scenic Area. There are 41 majors covering the main positions in the tourism industry, such as tour guides, hotel management, tourism management, flight attendants, international cruise attendants, English, Korean, Japanese, German, logistics management, exhibition planning and management, accounting, marketing, and Western food technology, as well as 41 majors that are derived from new tourism formats. The college has established long-term cooperative relations with 206 top domestic and foreign industry companies, including the permanent venue of the Asian Forum, international brand hotel groups, and major international travel agencies in and outside the province. It has established an internship employment base, carried out "order system" training, and opened up internship employment projects in the United States, Singapore, South Korea, and Germany, helping students to achieve zero-distance connection with industry enterprises and high-quality employment.
