The school has a long history. The school originated from the Tongcheng Middle School Normal Class founded by Ma Qichang, a representative of the late Tongcheng School in 1904. Over the past 119 years, the school has changed its name six times, changed its site five times, and upgraded its level four times. It is the only public normal college in southwest Anhui. In March 2010, with the approval of the Ministry of Education and the People's Government of Anhui Province, the school was officially upgraded to Tongcheng Normal College (abbreviated as Tongcheng Normal College). In January 2022, it started a joint training program with Anqing Normal University, opening a new chapter in undergraduate education. The school is a high-level professional group construction unit of Anhui Province's "double high" schools. It has a profound cultural heritage. In its 119-year history of running schools, the school has always been at the forefront of the times, adhering to the original intention of normal education, and has formed the school motto of "high learning as a teacher, high moral character as a model", the teaching style of "dedication, professionalism, pragmatism, and innovation", and the style of study of "truth-seeking, truth-seeking, erudition, and joy in groups". The school integrates the research, inheritance and innovation of Tongcheng culture into textbooks, classrooms, student activities and the entire process of talent training. Since 2018, it has held the National Tongcheng School Academic Research Conference for 6 consecutive years and has become an important position for the national Tongcheng School academic exchange. The school has formed a campus cultural feature with unique Tongcheng regional cultural characteristics of "tangible and plastic, visible and visible, things to do and people to show". The geographical location is superior. The school is located in Tongcheng, Anhui, a national historical and cultural city and the hometown of the Tongcheng School. The new campus is located on Xueyuan Road, Xincheng, in the eastern part of Tongcheng City, where transportation is convenient and the geographical location is superior. It is 90 kilometers north of Hefei and 70 kilometers south of Anqing. It connects the south and the north, connects the east and the west. The Beijing-Hong Kong High-speed Railway, Hefei-Jiujiang Railway, Shanghai-Chengdu Expressway, Deshang Expressway, Yuewu Expressway and National Highway 206 run through the entire territory. The school is within a ten-minute drive from the high-speed railway station, railway station, bus station and expressway exit. The campus environment is beautiful. In September 2021, the school will move into the new campus as a whole. The new campus is planned to be built on an area of 1,000 mu, and the overall design positioning is "Xiu Shui Pan Palace, a century-old institution of higher learning". The first phase of construction covers an area of 650 mu, and the current building area is 250,000 square meters. The gray and white architectural style echoes the school's profound history of running schools. At present, the second phase of construction has begun, and four student dormitory buildings have been started. The faculty is strong. The school currently has six teaching departments: the Department of Primary Education, the Department of Preschool Education, the Department of Commerce and Electronic Information, the Department of Tourism and Public Administration, the Department of Art and Design, and the Department of Ideological and Political Teaching. There are 6,756 full-time students and 281 faculty and staff, including 62 teachers with senior professional titles and 5 professors. There are 134 teachers with master's degrees or above, 7 provincial teaching masters, 19 provincial newcomers, 65 "dual-qualified" teachers, and 12 provincial teaching teams. The professional characteristics are distinct. The school has 18 majors, including 2 key construction majors supported by the central government (preschool education and art design), 3 reformed majors exempted from the Ministry of Education’s teaching qualification examination (preschool education, primary education liberal arts, and primary education science), and 1 demonstration project of the Ministry of Education’s “major and curriculum reform” (primary education major). There are 3 provincial specialty majors (preschool education, primary education, and art design), and 1 provincial high-level professional group (primary education professional group). There are 2 provincial professional comprehensive reform pilot projects and 2 provincial high-level vocational majors. As a proofing major, the preschool education major is the first and only major in the province’s higher vocational colleges that has passed the Ministry of Education’s teacher education certification. The teacher education characteristics of “moral and academic cultivation, cultural education, practice throughout, one specialty and multiple skills, and rooted in the countryside” have been formed. The teaching resources are rich. The library has a collection of 528,900 books, including 374,800 paper books, 58,992GB of digital resources, and more than 500 current periodicals. It has a standardized plastic track and field, basketball court, volleyball court, badminton court and a dedicated table tennis room. It has 13 information training rooms, including a comprehensive wiring training room, a network technology laboratory, an e-commerce training room, a basic accounting training room, a computer assembly and maintenance laboratory, and a video course production room, and 63 experimental training rooms under the department. It offers 76 network practice courses, 788 network information points, 211 wireless access points, and a total value of 31.0639 million yuan in internship and training equipment, with an average of 5,061.74 yuan per student. It has 81 on-campus training bases and 176 off-campus training bases. The school is the Anhui Provincial Computer NIT Training and Examination Base, the Anhui Provincial Higher Education Self-study Examination Learning Service Center and the Mandarin Testing Station. The school has achieved fruitful results. Since 2000, more than 20,000 graduates have been trained, and more than 70,000 teachers in primary, middle and kindergarten schools have been trained. In recent years, the school has made new achievements in high-quality development. The scale of school operation has been continuously expanded. In 2023, 2,147 new students were admitted, and the quality of students has maintained a steady development trend. The school has been successfully approved as a high-level professional group construction unit of Anhui Province's "double high" schools. In 2022, our school and Anqing Normal University jointly carried out the training of junior college to undergraduate, and obtained the second grade of A in the assessment organized by the Education Department. The 2022 school quality annual report was rated A in the selection organized by the Provincial Department of Education. The three majors of preschool education, primary education (literature), and primary education (science) have been approved by the Ministry of Education to be exempted from the teacher qualification certificate. The school has been rated as an "Anhui Civilized Unit" for 6 consecutive terms. It has won the titles of "Anhui Province's First Top Ten Advanced Collectives for Mental Health Education in Colleges and Universities" and "Anhui Province Drug Prevention Education Demonstration School". The development goals are clear. In recent years, the school has further strengthened its positioning of "local, application-oriented, teacher-oriented, and regional characteristics" in light of its actual school operation and the needs of local economic and social development, and clarified its professional development positioning of "improving and strengthening education majors, and refining and specializing higher vocational majors".
