Lanzhou University of Technology is located in Lanzhou, the capital of Gansu Province. It is a university jointly established by the Gansu Provincial People's Government, the Ministry of Education, and the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, and a high-level university in Gansu Province. It is a university selected for the Basic Capacity Building Project for Colleges and Universities in Central and Western China, the National College Student Innovation Experimental Program, and the Ministry of Education's Excellent Engineer Program, and a national national defense education characteristic school. The predecessor of the school was the Gansu Provincial Technical School founded in 1919; in 1958, on the basis of the establishment of Lanzhou Institute of Technology, Gansu Jiaotong University was incorporated and named Gansu University of Technology; in 1965, the school was assigned to the First Ministry of Machinery Industry, and at the same time, the hydraulic machinery, chemical machinery, oil field machinery and welding technology and equipment majors of Northeast Heavy Machinery Institute and Beijing Institute of Machinery were all moved in, and a group of teachers were transferred from Hunan University and Hefei University of Technology to work in the school; in 1998, it was transformed into a "central and local co-construction, mainly local management" college; in 2003, it was officially renamed Lanzhou University of Technology. After a hundred years of construction and development, the school has gradually formed the "Red Willow Spirit" with the main connotation of "hard work, unremitting self-improvement, truth-seeking and pragmatic, pioneering and innovative", and forged the school motto of "striving for progress and seeking truth". It has basically built first-class engineering, solid science, and distinctive liberal arts, and has entered the ranks of high-level universities of similar domestic universities. The school currently has two campuses, Langongping Campus and Pengjiaping Campus, covering an area of 2,430 acres, with a school building area of 1.2752 million square meters, a library collection of 2.31 million books, 1.24 million electronic books, a laboratory area of more than 70,000 square meters, and teaching and scientific research equipment assets worth about 658 million yuan. There are 19 colleges, 1 teaching and research department, a graduate school, and a joint training base for graduate students in Wenzhou. There are 31,009 students on campus, including 22,326 undergraduates, 7,722 master's students, 568 doctoral students, and 393 international students. There are 2,532 faculty members, including 1,620 full-time teachers, 896 teachers with doctoral degrees, 1,160 teachers with senior professional titles or above, 208 doctoral supervisors, and 1,007 master's supervisors. There are 3 dual-appointed academicians, 2 distinguished professors of the "Yangtze River Scholars Program", 1 winner of the National Outstanding Young Scientist Fund, 1 teaching master of the National "Special Support Program", 2 candidates of the National "Hundred Thousand Talents Project", 2 New Century Excellent Talents of the Ministry of Education, and 19 experts enjoying special government allowances from the State Council. Four high-level talents such as distinguished professors of the "Yangtze River Scholars Program" were flexibly introduced, and more than 120 well-known experts and scholars at home and abroad were hired as visiting professors. 47 people were selected as leading talents in Gansu Province, 42 "Feitian Scholars" and "Young Scholars", and 20 provincial teaching masters. There are 12 national honorary titles such as China Welding Lifetime Achievement Award, National Outstanding Teacher, National Advanced Worker, and National Model Teacher, and more than 70 people have been awarded honorary titles such as the Gansu Province May 1st Labor Medal and Teaching Master. The school is one of the first universities in my country to be authorized to grant bachelor's and master's degrees. It is the first university in Gansu Province to have the right to confer doctoral degrees in engineering and the first to set up a postdoctoral research station in engineering. There are currently 9 disciplines, covering engineering, science, management, economics, literature, law, education, medicine, and art. Three disciplines, engineering, materials science, and chemistry, are ranked in the top 1% of the world in the ESI ranking. The discipline of materials science and engineering has been selected into the national "first-class discipline" breakthrough project for provincial universities. There are 20 provincial key disciplines and 4 national defense characteristic disciplines. There are 6 first-level doctoral programs and 25 first-level master programs. 64 undergraduate majors, 34 majors selected as first-class undergraduate majors in the "Double 10,000 Plan", 19 majors passed engineering education certification, 20 national first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 14 provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites. 10 courses were selected as national first-class undergraduate courses. There are 4 national planning textbooks, 3 national teaching teams, 3 national experimental teaching demonstration centers, and 4 national engineering practice education centers. There are 20 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, 12 postgraduate joint training demonstration bases, 1 innovation team was selected as the first batch of Huang Danian-style teacher teams in national universities, 1 college was selected as an advanced collective in the national education system, and 1 teaching achievement won the second prize of the 2022 National Teaching Achievement Award for Higher Education (Undergraduate). Selected as a national innovation and entrepreneurship college construction university and an independent pilot university for the construction of the "one-stop" student community comprehensive management model of the Ministry of Education. The university currently has two innovation teams of the "Yangtze River Scholars and Innovation Team Development Program", six national scientific research bases such as the "Provincial and Ministry-co-built National Key Laboratory for Advanced Processing and Recycling of Nonferrous Metals" and the "Northwest Low-carbon Town Support Technology Collaborative Innovation Center", and seven scientific research bases of the Ministry of Education. It has the first batch of national technology transfer demonstration institutions, national university science and technology parks, and a national small and medium-sized enterprise public service demonstration platform approved by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. In the past five years, it has undertaken 473 national science and technology projects, with a total of 880 million yuan in scientific research funds; 378 National Natural Science Foundations, 21 National Social Science Foundations, and 36 national key research and development plans and key projects have been approved, 2,209 high-level papers have been published, and 1 article has been published in Nature and Science as the second unit, 11 provincial science and technology first prizes, 1,823 authorized patents, and has been awarded the title of advanced unit for patent work in Gansu Province for many consecutive years. It is the first university in the province to pass the national intellectual property pilot work acceptance. The school actively promotes the deep integration of industry, academia and research, deepens cooperation with local governments and enterprises, and has established cooperative relations with more than 20 cities inside and outside the province and more than 200 enterprises. Joined 10 innovation consortia in Gansu Province, established the Yellow River Basin Water Ecology and Water Engineering Research Institute, Dunhuang Design Morphology Research Institute, Jiuquan Advanced Technology Research Institute, Nonferrous Metals Industry Research Institute, Lanzhou University of Technology-Jinchuan Group Co., Ltd. Nickel-Cobalt Metal New Materials Collaborative Innovation Center and other scientific research institutions. In the past five years, more than 2,700 technological transformation and industrial upgrading projects have been completed for industrial enterprises. The provincial think tank Gansu Industrial Economic Development Research Institute won the first prize for outstanding achievements in philosophy and society in Gansu Province. The school continues to expand the space for cooperation and exchanges, and has established long-term and stable cooperative relations with more than 40 universities including the University of Akron, the University of California (Santa Barbara), the University of Strathclyde, the State Technical University of South Russia, the Macau University of Science and Technology, the Chung Yuan Christian University, Kunshan University of Science and Technology, and Providence University. It is a counterpart support university of Southeast University, Beijing University of Science and Technology, and Dalian University of Technology. In recent years, more than 500 teachers have gone abroad for visiting studies and exchanges. Actively promote the international development strategy, carry out the undergraduate "2+2" international class project with the University of Strathclyde in the UK and Tennessee Technological University in the US, and carry out the "3+2" joint training master's program with the University of Akron in the US. It has been approved to build the Confucius Institute at Vinnitsa National Technical University in Ukraine, joined the "Belt and Road" University Strategic Alliance, is a Chinese project school of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization University, and is eligible to recruit Chinese government scholarship students to study in China. The school adheres to and strengthens the overall leadership of the Party, and has made gratifying achievements in party building, ideological and political work, and spiritual civilization construction. It has won the titles of National Advanced Grassroots Party Organization, National Advanced College for Party Building and Ideological and Political Work, National Civilized Campus, National Advanced Unit for Spiritual Civilization Construction, National Healthy School Construction Unit, National Model Unit for Greening, and National May Fourth Red Flag Youth League Committee. It was selected as the first batch of pilot colleges and universities for the Demonstration Network Community (E-Class Network) of the Ministry of Education, and the second batch of 1,000 national pilot schools for emergency education. It was named the first batch of "Green Schools" in Gansu Province, and was approved to build a provincial key Marxist college. Two colleges were selected as "National Party Building Benchmarking Colleges and Departments" and cultivation units, and 6 party branches were selected as "National Model Party Branches for Party Building Work". One party branch won the "Two Studies and One Action" branch style honorary award from the Ministry of Education, and one teacher party branch was rated as "Provincial Advanced Grassroots Party Organization". In 2020, it was rated as an advanced collective in the province's poverty alleviation assistance work.
