Shaanxi Vocational College of Art was formed by the merger of Shaanxi Art School, Shaanxi Film and Television School and Shaanxi Film and Television Company in 2010. It was officially established in June 2013. It is a public full-time art vocational college registered with the Ministry of Education. It is the first provincial public art vocational college in Northwest China. The development of the school has attracted the attention of the leaders of the Party and the country, the Shaanxi Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial Government, the Provincial Party Committee Education Working Committee and all walks of life. Qinqiang professional teachers and students have gone to Beijing Zhongnanhai for performances many times and have been cordially received by party and state leaders such as Mao Zedong, Liu Shaoqi, Zhou Enlai, Xi Zhongxun, and Jiang Zemin. The school has a long history and profound heritage. Ma Lanyu, a famous Qinqiang performing artist known as the "Phoenix in the Fire", Shi Lei, the former principal of Shaanxi Art School, Luo Ming and other 7 older generation artists, and our school teachers are all from the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region People's Troupe established in 1938. The school has the red gene of Yan'an revolutionary literature and art and has made great contributions to China's revolutionary opera. The predecessor of the school, Shaanxi Film School, was established in 1952. With the support of Xi Zhongxun and other older generation revolutionaries, Shaanxi Opera School was established in 1957. The famous Peking Opera master Shang Xiaoyun moved his family from Beijing to Xi'an in the 1950s and served as the chief art director. Shang Changrong, a famous Peking Opera performing artist and honorary chairman of the China Dramatists Association, is the honorary principal of our school. Since its establishment, the school has been pregnant with red genes, which is in line with the spirit of westward migration. The school has distinctive characteristics and remarkable achievements. The school is based on opera. The school currently has 8 teaching units including the Opera College, Film and Television Media College, Dance College, Music College, Art and Design College, Preschool Education College, Marxism College and Basic Teaching Department. It offers 20 higher vocational majors such as opera performance, music performance, dance performance, preschool education, radio and television program production, drama and film performance, broadcasting and hosting, photography and video technology, modern pop music, environmental art design, visual communication design and production, and arts and crafts design, a five-year preschool education major, and two secondary vocational majors such as opera performance and dance performance. Opera performance and arts and crafts design are two provincial "double high plan" professional groups. The "Opera Performance" major is a provincial first-class major, and the drama major has outstanding advantages. There are 4,738 full-time students. The school takes the cultivation of Shaanxi local opera (Qinqiang) talents and the inheritance of Shaanxi local intangible cultural heritage talents as its mission, and aims to cultivate high-quality cultural and artistic talents with both moral integrity and skills. Over the years, it has cultivated more than 20,000 artistic talents for Shaanxi and even the whole country. Qinqiang performing artists such as Li Xiaofeng, Qi Aiyun, Li Junmei, Zhao Yangwu, winners of the "Plum Blossom Award" for Chinese opera, have taught or studied in the school. Famous film and television actors Miao Pu and Wen Zhang all graduated from our school. The opera and dance works rehearsed by the school, such as "Visiting West Lake", "Silk Road Zhengtu", and "Silk Road Songs", are active on the stage of Shaanxi culture going to the countryside, benefiting the people, and entering the campus with elegant art and national art. In recent years, students have won more than 20 awards in the national vocational skills competition and more than 100 awards in the provincial vocational skills competition. Won 50 provincial and above awards in the "Internet +" College Students' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition. In 2019, the group dance "Hope" represented Shaanxi in the 12th "Taoli Cup" Dance Education and Teaching Achievement Exhibition. Works such as "Roaring Qinqiang" won awards in major competitions such as the First National Wenhua Art College Opera Competition and the China Children's Opera Little Plum Blossom Award Competition. 10 national art fund projects were approved, and the school was recognized by the Ministry of Education as a national college Chinese excellent traditional cultural inheritance base. There are currently two national productive training bases: the "Song of Everlasting Regret" productive training base and the performing arts productive training base. There are institutions such as the Shaanxi Visual Reconstruction Engineering Research Center, the Shaanxi Qinqiang Art Collaborative Innovation Center, the Shaanxi Intangible Cultural Heritage Inheritance Education Practice Base, the Shaanxi Local Opera Music Research Center, the Shaanxi Opera Music Digital Resource Library, and the China Qinqiang Education Alliance. The school has established more than 100 internship and training bases in close cooperation with enterprises and institutions in and outside the province, such as Hangzhou Songcheng Art Troupe Co., Ltd., Chongqing Impression Wulong Art Troupe, Qinghai Qin Opera Theater, Lanzhou Qin Opera Theater, Huaqing Pool "Song of Everlasting Regret" Art Troupe, Shaanxi Song and Dance Theater, Shaanxi Opera Research Institute, Shaanxi Performing Arts Group, Shaanxi People's Theater, Xi'an Yisu Society, Shaanxi Art Museum, Xi'an TV Variety Channel, etc. The school has excellent teachers and a reasonable structure. The school currently has 276 full-time teachers. More than 30 industry masters have been hired as visiting professors and specially appointed experts. There are currently 2 people enjoying special allowances from the State Council, 2 provincial teaching masters, 1 provincial outstanding teacher, 1 provincial well-known teacher, 1 Shaanxi Province Outstanding Youth, 1 Shaanxi Province Teacher Ethics Model, 2 National 100 Outstanding Opera Professional Teachers, 6 experts in the National Art Fund Expert Database, and 1 provincial teacher ethics demonstration team. Teachers of the school won 3 first prizes and 1 second prize in the national competition, 6 first prizes, 2 second prizes and 4 third prizes in the provincial competition in the teaching ability competition of vocational college skills competition. Two teaching teams won 1 first prize and 1 second prize in the provincial teaching achievement award, and one of the teams was recommended to participate in the evaluation of the 2022 National Teaching Achievement Award for Vocational Education. The school introduced the famous Qinqiang performing artist, the winner of the "Second Plum Blossom Award" for opera, Li Dongqiaohe, and the winner of the "Plum Blossom Award" for drama, Li Xiaoxiong. A famous teacher studio was set up to form a talent growth echelon of four levels: famous teachers, professional leaders, academic backbones, and outstanding young teachers.
