Beijing Technology and Business University is a high-level research university in Beijing. It was established in June 1999 by the merger of Beijing Institute of Light Industry and Beijing Business School, and the Mechanical Industry Management Cadre College with the approval of the Ministry of Education. Beijing Business School has been affiliated to the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Domestic Trade. It was formerly known as the All-China Federation of Supply and Marketing Cooperative Cadre School and the Central Commercial Cadre School. The All-China Federation of Supply and Marketing Cooperative Cadre School was built in early 1950, and the Central Commercial Cadre School was built in 1953. In 1958, the All-China Federation of Supply and Marketing Cooperative Cadre School was merged into the Central Commercial Cadre School. In 1959, the Ministry of Commerce established the Central Business School with the approval of the State Council. In 1960, it was renamed Beijing Business School. The Central Business Cadre School merged with Beijing Business School. Beijing Business School was suspended in 1969 due to the "Cultural Revolution" and resumed enrollment in 1978 with the approval of the State Council. Beijing Business School is one of the earliest institutions of higher learning established after the founding of the People's Republic of my country to specialize in cultivating economic management talents. It is among the first batch of master's degree-granting institutions in the country approved by the State Council. Beijing Institute of Light Industry was founded in 1958 and is one of the earliest light industry colleges and universities in my country. It moved to Xianyang City, Shaanxi Province in 1970, and was rebuilt on the original site in Beijing with the approval of the State Council in 1978. It has been affiliated to the Ministry of Light Industry and China Light Industry Federation, and mainly cultivates senior professionals in the light industry. The Machinery Industry Management Cadre College was established in 1982 and is affiliated to the Ministry of Machinery Industry. It mainly trains management cadres for the machinery industry. After the merger, Beijing Technology and Business University has entered a new period of development, with its comprehensive strength significantly enhanced. In August 2003, upon review and approval at the 20th meeting of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, the school became a joint training unit for doctoral students. Since 2004, it has jointly recruited and trained doctoral students in accounting with the Central University of Finance and Economics. In June 2007, the school accepted the Ministry of Education’s national undergraduate teaching level assessment of general colleges and universities. In March 2008, the Ministry of Education convened a plenary meeting of the National Undergraduate Teaching Evaluation Expert Committee in General Universities, and all members voted to confirm that the evaluation result of Beijing Technology and Business University’s undergraduate teaching was “excellent”. In December 2012, the school’s food (including health food) additives and safety became the “Doctoral Talent Training Project to Serve the National Special Needs”, and the title of the degree-granting subject is “Food Science and Engineering”. In September 2014, the “Food Science and Engineering” discipline was approved to establish a new postdoctoral research station. In May 2018, with the approval of the 34th meeting of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, the school became a doctoral degree-granting unit, and applied economics and food science and engineering were approved as first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization sites. In September 2019, the “Applied Economics” discipline was approved to establish a new postdoctoral research station. In October 2021, upon review and approval by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, our school’s three disciplines of Systems Science, Light Industry Technology and Engineering, and Business Administration were approved as first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization points. In November 2023, the three disciplines of "Systems Science", "Light Industry Technology and Engineering" and "Business Administration" were approved to establish new postdoctoral research stations. The school currently has 4 departments, including 10 colleges, 1 teaching department, and 3 academies; it has 2 national testing centers, 1 national experimental teaching demonstration center, and 2 national virtual simulation experimental teaching centers (projects) , 1 national engineering research center; it has 20 important provincial and ministerial level institutions, including the China-Canada Joint Laboratory of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Environmental Protection, the Beijing High-Tech Center, the Beijing Key Laboratory, and the Beijing Philosophy and Society Research Base. The school currently has 53 postdoctoral fellows and educates more than 17,000 students with various academic qualifications. The school covers a total area of 830,000 square meters (1,245 acres), including 210,000 square meters (315 acres) at the Fucheng Road Campus and 620,000 square meters (930 acres) at the Liangxiang Campus. The total construction area is 592,200 square meters, including 202,500 square meters at Fucheng Road campus and 389,700 square meters at Liangxiang campus. The total value of fixed assets is 3.493 billion yuan. The total area of the library is 25,793.1 square meters. Up to now, the library has more than 1.963 million paper documents, more than 1.621 million electronic books, more than 2.298 million electronic journals, and 102 Chinese and foreign databases. Since the "Tenth Five-Year Plan" period, the school has seized opportunities, actively expanded its school space, continuously improved campus infrastructure conditions, and completed key construction projects in Beijing such as the renovation of Fucheng Road campus and the first phase of Liangxiang campus.
