The school was founded in 1946. Its predecessor was the National Beiping Advanced Industrial Vocational School. After the founding of New China, it was successively affiliated to the Ministry of Metallurgical Industry and China Nonferrous Metals Industry Corporation. It was renamed in 1985 and transferred to the management of Beijing in 1998. It has now developed into a university with engineering as its main discipline, coordinated development of seven major disciplines including science, engineering, liberal arts, economics, management, law, and art, with outstanding advantages in engineering and distinctive characteristics. In the 76-year history of running schools, the school has adhered to the socialist direction of running schools, implemented the fundamental task of cultivating people with moral integrity, inherited the spirit of "serving the country through industry, rejuvenating the country through industry, and strengthening the country through industry", and devoted itself to the development process of New China from traditional industry to modern industry. It has become the backbone of serving the local economy and society, cultivating high-level innovative talents and advanced technology research and development. Entering the new era, the school continues to carry forward the spirit of reform and innovation, based on the new development stage, implement the new development concept, build a new development pattern, actively connect with the new requirements of the country and Beijing's economic and social development, and embark on a new journey of comprehensively building a high-level applied university. Beautiful Campus The school is located in Shijingshan District, Beijing, covering an area of 452 acres and a building area of 400,000 square meters. The school has an elegant environment and a strong humanistic atmosphere. In 1986, it established the first art gallery in the country's science and engineering colleges, and in 1992 it was named the first civilized campus in Beijing. The school was named "Top Ten Beautiful Campuses of Beijing Universities", is a national advanced unit for greening and beautification, and a model school for Beijing's safe campus. It has been awarded the title of "Capital Civilized Unit" for five consecutive times. The school has steadily promoted the construction of smart campuses, green campuses, and healthy campuses. In 2019, it was named "National Demonstration Unit of Energy-Saving Public Institutions". Teachers, Students and Staff The school currently has 15,650 full-time students, including 12,065 undergraduates, 3,425 postgraduates, 333 international students, 160 second-degree students, and more than 3,600 continuing education students. The school currently has 1,243 faculty members, including 968 full-time teachers. There are 15 national high-level talents such as dual-appointed academicians, Yangtze River, outstanding young scholars, and 10,000 leaders, and 81 provincial and ministerial high-level talents and teaching masters. There are 32 doctoral supervisors, 65.2% of full-time teachers have doctoral degrees, and 56.7% have senior professional titles. It has a municipal academic innovation team, 6 excellent teaching teams, and 3 excellent undergraduate education teams. Talent training The school has established a multi-level and wide-coverage education system from undergraduates to master students and doctoral students, from full-time to adult higher education, and international student education. There is a "Doctoral Talent Training Project Serving National Special Needs", 18 first-level master's degree disciplines, 10 master's professional degree categories, and 39 undergraduate enrollment majors. The school has 13 national first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 20 Beijing first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 2 first-class majors in Beijing universities (key construction), 8 majors that have passed education certification (assessment), and 4 majors that have passed ACBSP international business major certification; 33 national first-class courses, Beijing university quality undergraduate courses and teaching materials (including key courses) have been approved. There are 21 national and provincial and ministerial teaching and research platforms, and it has won 2 new engineering research and practice projects, 1 new liberal arts research and reform practice project from the Ministry of Education, and 18 "undergraduate teaching reform and innovation projects" in Beijing higher education. Since 2003, it has won 2 second prizes in national education and teaching achievements, 1 special prize in Beijing higher education teaching achievements, 17 first prizes, and 31 second prizes. The school is a national talent training model innovation experimental zone, a national and Beijing university cultural quality education base, a national university student off-campus practice education base, and a national experimental teaching demonstration center. It has built 6 Beijing experimental teaching demonstration centers. We have vigorously promoted the construction of "double entrepreneurship" and built a "College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Base" with a total of 93 teams settled in. It has been successively rated as "Western Beijing Innovation and Entrepreneurship Base", "Beijing Regional College Demonstration Entrepreneurship Center", and "Beijing College Student Entrepreneurship Park University Branch". In the past five years, an average of more than 2,000 undergraduates have won awards for provincial and ministerial-level or above discipline competitions each year, nearly 1/3 of graduates have continued their studies, and the employment rate has remained stable at around 96% year after year. The scale of graduate student enrollment has increased year by year, and 1,000 graduate students have won awards for provincial and ministerial-level or above discipline competitions. The discipline-specific engineering discipline has entered the top 1% of the ESI global ranking, and computer science and technology has entered the B layer of the fourth round of national discipline evaluation. The control science and engineering discipline has entered the top 20% of the 2020 Soft Science China Best Discipline Ranking and has been approved as a high-end discipline in Beijing universities. The power electronics engineering discipline has entered the top 400 in the 2020 Soft Science World Class Discipline Ranking, ranking first among Beijing-affiliated universities. The doctoral talent training project serving the country's special needs has passed the acceptance of the Ministry of Education, and the school as a whole has met the conditions for applying for a doctoral degree authorization unit. Actively promote interdisciplinary integration, and initially form the "intelligent +" discipline characteristics covering "intelligent information", "intelligent control", "intelligent manufacturing" and "intelligent construction"; create the "urban governance" application characteristics of "urban risk prevention and control and emergency management" and "urban comprehensive governance and smart services". The scientific research school closely focuses on the construction of Beijing's "four centers" functions and the construction of an international science and technology innovation center, closely follows the operation and governance of the capital's megacity, plays the role of technology research and development and think tank support, and has formed a leading advantage in the fields of intelligent transportation, energy conservation and environmental protection, risk prevention and control and disaster warning, new materials, green power sources, etc., and has played an important think tank role in economic management, legal services, green livability, etc. It has 16 provincial and ministerial key laboratories, engineering technology research centers and 1 national key laboratory co-construction base, and participates in the construction of 3 provincial and ministerial collaborative innovation centers. 13 school-affiliated research and development institutions such as the High-tech Innovation Institute, Energy Storage Engineering Center, and Emerging Risk Institute have been built. Based on the location advantage, the "North China University of Technology Science and Technology Park" has been built. It has been approved as a Beijing Philosophy and Social Sciences Research Base. The school's scientific research results have won 7 second prizes in the National Science and Technology Progress Award, 1 Lu Xun Literature Award, and more than 80 provincial and ministerial awards. The International Exchange School is a Chinese government scholarship training mission school for international students in China, approved as a national talent training base for the "Belt and Road" in Beijing, and approved to build the International College of Humanities Exchange. It has established inter-school cooperation with 117 universities in 40 countries (regions), carried out more than 80 student exchange and learning projects in various forms, and the number of academic students has reached more than 400. It was approved as the first undergraduate Sino-British cooperative institution of Beijing universities-Nanjing University of Technology London Brunel College. In cooperation with Andijan University of Mechanical Manufacturing in Uzbekistan, the "Modern Engineering College" was established to cultivate international talents for the construction of the "Belt and Road". Party building and ideological and political work adhere to the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, solidly promote the normalization of "two studies and one action" learning and education, and promote the theme education of "not forgetting the original intention and keeping the mission in mind". Under the leadership of the party's political construction, the main responsibility of comprehensive and strict party governance has been implemented. It has been inspected by the municipal party committee twice and completed the rectification tasks, and the school inspection has achieved full coverage. Deepening the reform and innovation of ideological and political theory courses, the school was selected as a key project for the construction of a demonstration Marxist college and an excellent teaching and research team by the Ministry of Education, and was approved as a demonstration site for ideological and political education and teaching reform in Beijing universities.
