The Army Special Operations College is the only higher education institution in the field of special operations and intelligence reconnaissance in the whole army. It trains officers and non-commissioned officers in the field of special operations and intelligence reconnaissance for the army, marines, and air force airborne troops. It undertakes the task of training talents in sniper operations and military sports in the whole army. It is the training base for reconnaissance and special operations talents in the whole army, the training center for high-level snipers in the whole army, the training center for military sports talents in the whole army, and the research and development center for special operations theory and tactics and training methods. It has a profound historical heritage. The Army Special Operations College was formed by the merger of the former Special Operations College and the Guilin Comprehensive Training Base in July 2017. The former Special Operations College was formerly the PLA Sports School established in July 1953. In 2011, it merged with the Reconnaissance and Special Operations Department of the Institute of International Relations to form the Special Operations College. The predecessor of the Guilin Comprehensive Training Base was the Guilin Infantry School in June 1958. The school has excellent conditions. The college spans Guangxi, Guangdong and Hunan, with a total of 8 camps in Guilin, Guangzhou, Hengyang and Zhuzhou. Each camp has a beautiful environment, unique human geography, complete teaching venues and advanced teaching equipment. It has more than 90 military common and professional technical training grounds, 4 comprehensive training grounds with various combat terrains, with a total area of more than 13,000 acres, creating a practical training environment for cultivating special warfare elites for all-domain operations. The disciplines have distinct characteristics. The college has a system of four professional fields, namely special operations, intelligence reconnaissance, sniper operations and military sports, in accordance with the three disciplines of tactics, command and training, and has two professional degree master's authorization points, namely military master's and sports master's. The faculty is strong. The college has a well-structured teaching and research team with both moral integrity and talent. There are more than 600 teachers, including 142 higher vocational teachers, 324 with postgraduate education or above, 97 with experience in foreign aid teaching, studying abroad and international peacekeeping, 19 world champions and national champions, 97 military talent awards, 3 outstanding teachers of the whole army, and 7 experts enjoying special government allowances. Fruitful scientific research results. The college has undertaken more than 500 scientific research projects and won 54 scientific research achievement awards, including 1 first prize and 3 second prizes in military scientific and technological progress, 2 first prizes and 2 second prizes in military scientific research, and 13 military teaching achievement awards. It has a comprehensive academic journal "Journal of Special Operations" in the field of special operations of the whole army and a journal "Journal of Military Sports" included in the database of China's core journals (selection).
