Datong Normal College is located on the banks of Shili River at the foot of Wuzhou Mountain in Datong City. It is a century-old school with high-quality educational resources and excellent school-running traditions. The school was founded in 1913, then known as the "Shanxi Provincial No. 4 Normal School"; in 1914, it was renamed the "Shanxi Provincial No. 3 Normal School"; in 1934, it was renamed the "Shanxi Provincial Datong Normal School"; in 1972, it exchanged its name with the original Datong No. 1 Middle School; in 1978, it began to recruit students from the Datong Teachers College of Shanxi Normal University, then known as the "Datong Teachers College"; in 2003, the provincial government abolished the establishment of the secondary normal school system, and Datong Normal School was affiliated with the then Yanbei Normal College and renamed the "Datong Branch of Yanbei Normal College"; in 2006, it was affiliated with Shanxi Datong University and renamed the "Datong Normal Branch of Shanxi Datong University"; in 2008, the provincial government approved the establishment of Datong Teachers College; in March 2018, with the approval of the provincial government and the filing of the Ministry of Education, Datong Teachers College was officially established. The school covers an area of 487 acres and a total construction area of 155,000 square meters. The existing Shanxi Provincial No. 3 Middle School (old site) building complex on campus is a model of modern campus architectural design in Shanxi and China, and is the sixth batch of key cultural relics protection units in the country. In 2010, the Datong Municipal Government invested a total of 588 million yuan to build a new campus on the original site of the school. The campus is divided into five major areas: teaching area, living area, office area, sports area, and cultural relics area. The overall design continues the combination of Chinese and Western, eclectic, solemn and elegant architectural style of the cultural relics area, with history and modernity, and both function and style. As of September 2023, the school has 6,693 students; 286 faculty and staff, including 263 full-time teachers, 55 associate senior titles, 1 doctoral student, 177 masters and postgraduates, and 60 full-time staff of the "three teams" of ideological and political work. There are 13 specialized majors approved by the Provincial Department of Education and registered by the Ministry of Education, including 8 teacher-training majors that are state-controlled majors, 5 non-teacher-training majors, 3 provincial high-level training bases, 1 provincial key major, and 1 provincial "14th Five-Year Plan" first batch of brand professional construction projects. The total value of the school's teaching and scientific research equipment is 37.05 million yuan, and the library has a collection of 213,000 books. The school has successively won the honorary titles of Shanxi Provincial Advanced Unit for Cultural Relics Security and Provincial Advanced Unit for the Creation of "Safe Campus"; it is a "Mandarin and Standardized Characters" demonstration unit named by the Ministry of Education and the National Language Commission, a provincial ideological and political education studio cultivation and construction project unit, and a Datong City College Ideological and Political Course Alliance Base. In recent years, the school has adhered to the school-running philosophy of "based on normal education, diversified development, connotation construction, and quality-driven school development", and has continuously deepened the integration of production and education. It has cooperated with museums, archives, many primary schools, and kindergartens in our city to build a total of 37 off-campus practice internship bases. The school's scale of operation has expanded year by year, and the quality of students has steadily improved. In 2023, the school enrolled 2,667 students, and the enrollment outside the province covers 8 provinces including Hebei, Shandong, Liaoning, Inner Mongolia, Gansu, Shaanxi, Qinghai and Yunnan. The employment rate of graduates has remained above 85%, and the rate of admission from junior college to undergraduate has been at the forefront of the province for three consecutive years from 2020 to 2022. This year, under the circumstances of the tightening of the provincial enrollment plan, 567 students of our school have reached the line, and the rate of reaching the line has reached 30.8%. Among them, 8 students have entered the top 10 in the province in various majors, and the rate of reaching the line in physical education majors is 100%. The wheel of history has rolled forward, precipitating the unique cultural heritage of Datong Normal College and forging the educational characteristics of Datong Normal College people, "high learning is a teacher, and upright conduct is a model".
