In order to further promote excellent research capabilities and professional education to serve the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and improve its higher education spatial layout, in early 2020, City University of Hong Kong signed a cooperative school-running agreement with the Dongguan Municipal Government and Dongguan Institute of Technology to build a mainland-Hong Kong cooperative school-running institution with independent legal personality in Songshan Lake Science City, Dongguan City - City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan) (City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan)). City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan) is located in the Pingshan East area of Songshan Lake Science City, on the south side of the Dongguan-Shenzhen Expressway, surrounded by mountains and rivers, and is an ideal place to build a higher education institution. The campus covers an area of 523 acres, and 200 acres of land is reserved to support future development. City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan) will play a leading role in future teaching, research and knowledge transfer. Based on the advantages of City University of Hong Kong, international connections and faculty, the two schools will strengthen mutual support and in-depth interaction in the field of disciplines to meet the needs of higher education development in the Greater Bay Area and connect with the needs of industrial development. The core of the relationship between City University of Hong Kong and City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan) is the consistent academic quality. The two will be closely linked and complement each other through academic planning, student exchanges, teacher training, research and achievement transformation. Graduates of City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan) who meet the qualifications for degree awarding will also obtain degrees from City University of Hong Kong. In June 2022, the Ministry of Education of China approved the preparation for the establishment of City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan). A series of preparatory work, campus infrastructure and recruitment of teaching and research administrative teams are also being carried out in an orderly manner.
