Xi'an University of Technology is a high-level university that Shaanxi Province has focused on building. It is a "domestic first-class discipline construction university" in Shaanxi Province, a pilot university for the "Excellent Engineer Education and Training" of the Ministry of Education, a member of the national "Seven Sons of Ordnance Industry", and the only university in the northwest region of my country's weapons industry with complete undergraduate, master and doctoral training levels. It is a university jointly built by the Shaanxi Provincial People's Government and the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, China Ordnance Industry Group Co., Ltd., and China Ordnance Equipment Group Co., Ltd. It is one of the initiators of the B8 Collaborative Innovation Alliance (China Ordnance Collaborative Innovation Alliance). The school was born and raised in the ordnance industry, and has distinct military characteristics. The school was founded in 1955 and is a military supporting project of the 156 key construction projects of the National "First Five-Year Plan"; in 1965, it was renamed Xi'an Institute of Technology and became the only undergraduate university in the ordnance industry in the northwest region. The school has long been under the management of the ordnance industry ministries and commissions. In 1999, it was transferred from the former Ordnance Industry Corporation to the management of Shaanxi Province; in 2006, it was renamed Xi'an University of Technology. The university has always adhered to the socialist direction of running schools, focused on the fundamental task of cultivating morality and cultivating people, and adhered to the school-running idea of "quality-based school, characteristic-based school, innovation-based school, and talent-based school". It undertakes the important mission of talent training, scientific research, social services, cultural inheritance and innovation, and international exchanges and cooperation. It is determined to build a first-class high-level university with distinctive characteristics and wide influence, and become the backbone of the national defense industry and national economic and social development. The school has two campuses, Jinhua and Weiyang, with a building area of more than 900,000 square meters. The school has a complete talent training system at the bachelor's, master's and doctoral levels, and currently has more than 22,000 undergraduates, master's students and doctoral students. The school has a complete discipline system, with 3 first-level disciplines authorized to confer doctoral degrees, 8 second-level disciplines authorized to confer doctoral degrees, 5 national defense characteristic disciplines, 3 postdoctoral research mobile stations, 16 first-level disciplines authorized to confer master's degrees, and 11 master's professional degree authorization points. Three disciplines, materials science, engineering, and chemistry, are in the top 1% of the ESI global rankings, 4 disciplines are listed in the 2023 "Soft Science" China's best disciplines, and 7 disciplines are included in the provincial advantage disciplines and characteristic disciplines. The school currently has 55 undergraduate majors, 15 majors have passed the international engineering education certification, 20 majors have been selected as national first-class majors, and 28 majors have been selected as first-class majors in Shaanxi Province. The school has 19 colleges and research institutes, covering 7 disciplines: engineering, science, management, economics, art, literature, and education. In the new era, the school actively responded to the country's major strategic needs, initiated and established the Shaanxi University Military-Civilian Integration Science and Technology Innovation Alliance, prepared to build the Xi'an Military-Civilian Integration Development Strategic Research Center, and established a series of national defense research platforms such as the Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology, the Institute of New Energy Science and Technology, and the Institute of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. The Northwest Nuclear Security Center of the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense settled in our school, and the Military Commission Science and Technology Commission Quick Response Center set up a branch in the school. The school has a strong faculty, with more than 1,300 full-time teachers, including 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 28 national and provincial famous teachers, and 155 people selected for the New Century "Million Talents Project", "Changjiang Scholars" Distinguished Professors, National Outstanding Youth Science Fund, National "Ten Thousand People Plan", State Council Government Special Allowance Experts, Shaanxi Province Young and Middle-aged Experts with Outstanding Contributions, Shaanxi Province "Sanqin Scholars" Position Distinguished Professors, Shaanxi Province "Special Support Plan" Science and Technology Innovation Leaders, Shaanxi Province High-level Talent Introduction Plan Innovative Talent Project and other high-level talent projects. The school has a solid foundation for talent training, with 169 national and provincial first-class courses, curriculum ideological and political demonstration courses, and bilingual teaching demonstration courses. It has 36 national and provincial excellent teaching teams. It has 3 national practical teaching platforms, 2 Shaanxi Province Postgraduate Joint Training Demonstration Workstations, 50 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, innovative entrepreneurship education research and training bases, talent training model innovation experimental areas and other platforms. In recent years, teachers of the school have won 3 national teaching achievement awards, 42 provincial teaching achievement awards, and 5 graduate teaching achievement awards from the Shaanxi Provincial Degree and Graduate Education Association. The school has strong scientific and technological innovation, and a large number of achievements have been applied in key areas of national defense equipment. It has four national key scientific research platforms, including the "Precision and Ultra-precision Machining and Measurement" National and Local Joint Engineering Research Center, the "New Network and Detection Control" National and Local Joint Engineering Laboratory, the "Optical Advanced Manufacturing and Photoelectric Detection" International Science and Technology Cooperation Base, and the Xi'an University of Technology "Weapon Town" Science Popularization Center, and 37 provincial and ministerial research bases such as the Ministry of Education Key Laboratory and Shaanxi Provincial Key Laboratory. In recent years, the school has undertaken more than 1,000 scientific research projects commissioned by the Science and Technology Commission of the Central Military Commission, the Equipment Development Department of the Central Military Commission, the National Defense Science and Technology Bureau, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and various military services, theater commands, enterprises and institutions. Many research results have been published in Nature and Science sub-journals. The school’s teachers have won 5 second-class national science and technology progress awards, more than 100 national defense and various provincial and ministerial science and technology achievement awards, and the school has been rated as an advanced unit for China’s industry-university-research cooperation and innovation. The school has made strong internationalization efforts, actively integrated into the national opening-up strategy, implemented international education projects, and established a Sino-foreign cooperative school-running institution, the "Xi'an University of Technology and St. Petersburg Peter the Great Polytechnic Institute" (abbreviated as Xi'an St. Petersburg Polytechnic Institute), which is the implementation unit of the National Scholarship Council's international cooperation training project for innovative talents. At present, it has established inter-school cooperation relations with more than 50 famous universities or research institutes in more than 30 countries and regions such as the United Kingdom, Germany, and Russia. Nearly 200 international cooperation and exchange projects have been implemented, including visiting scholars from world-renowned universities, joint training, dual degrees, and paid social practice during holidays. We strive to build the "Study in Xi'an University of Technology" brand project along the Belt and Road, and recruit and train more than 200 undergraduate, master, doctoral and language students from 43 countries along the Belt and Road. After 69 years of wind and rain, generations of Xi'an University of Technology have taken root in the west and devoted themselves to national defense, always practicing the school motto of "cultivating virtue and learning, and learning from each other", promoting the school spirit of "loyalty and enterprising, fine craftsmanship and broad arts", inheriting the traditional military industry spirit of "giving everything to the party", and promoting the modern military industry spirit of "pursuing excellence in innovation" that keeps pace with the times, forming the unique Xi'an University of Technology spirit of "loyalty and enterprising to cast brilliance, fine craftsmanship and broad arts to cultivate talents". At present, the school has further clarified the overall idea of "academic leadership, consolidating the foundation, and strengthening characteristics", comprehensively promoting the improvement of core competitiveness indicators, and steadily moving towards the goal of building a first-class high-level domestic university with distinctive characteristics and wide influence.
