Diqing is known as a place of good fortune and luck. Shangri-La is the paradise in James Hilton's novel "Lost Horizon" and is the seat of the Diqing Prefecture. Shangri-La Vocational College is a full-time public higher vocational college approved by the Yunnan Provincial People's Government in 2023 and registered by the Ministry of Education of China. The college is located in Shangri-La City in the northwest of Yunnan Province. The first phase of the college covers an area of 360 acres and the school building area is 54,000 square meters. The overall planning investment of the second phase is 210 million yuan, and the new school building is 37,200 square meters. The college currently has 94 full-time teachers, including 1 senior vocational teacher, 41 deputy senior vocational teachers, 33 teachers with postgraduate degrees, and 53 dual-qualified teachers.

The college has 6 professional departments, including the Department of Education, the Department of Medicine, the Department of Agronomy, the Department of Tourism, the Department of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, and the Department of Economics. The college will strengthen students' moral education and professional education, and strive to build a platform for students' employment and further education in vocational education.

The college sets up majors to coordinate the development of major categories of majors for the primary industries such as planting and animal husbandry, the secondary industries such as food, and the modern service industries such as transportation, education, culture, tourism, and health care; it focuses on higher vocational education at the junior college level, based in Diqing, serving the Greater Shangri-La area, and focusing on cultivating high-quality skilled personnel for the construction and management services of the first, second, and tertiary industries in the region; it takes "double high" colleges as the development goal, service as the purpose, and employment as the orientation, to promote education and teaching reforms, and to provide higher vocational education that satisfies the people.
