Hainan Normal University is a university jointly established by the Hainan Provincial People's Government and the Ministry of Education, a key university in Hainan Province, and an important training base and scientific research base for excellent teachers and senior professionals in Hainan Province. The school has a long history of running schools, and its predecessor can be traced back to the Qiongtai Academy with a history of more than 300 years. It was officially founded in the fall of 1949 and is the first public university in Hainan Province. In 1952, it was renamed Hainan Normal College during the adjustment of colleges and departments of higher education institutions. In 1986, the establishment of Hainan Normal College was restored. In 1999, it merged with Hainan Education College to form a new Hainan Normal College. In 2007, it was renamed Hainan Normal University. Over the past 70 years since its establishment, the school has adhered to the school motto of "respecting morality, pursuing learning, seeking truth and innovation", and has taken it as its mission to serve Hainan's basic education and regional economic and social development. It has trained more than 200,000 basic education teachers and various senior talents, and is known as "Qiongdao Famous School, Cradle of Teachers". The school currently has two campuses, Longkun South and Guilinyang, covering an area of about 3,100 acres. There are about 23,000 full-time students (including about 21,000 undergraduates and about 2,500 postgraduates). There are 25 colleges, 65 undergraduate majors, 18 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points, 17 master's professional degree authorization points, and 5 first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization points. It has a complete higher education talent training system from bachelor's, master's to doctoral. The school has a reasonable structure of teachers and excellent teachers. There are 2,163 faculty members, including 1,404 full-time teachers and scientific researchers, 688 teachers with senior professional titles, including 1 Young Yangtze River Scholar, 1 National High-level Talent Special Support Program, 2 National Hundred Thousand Talents Project Candidates, 11 experts enjoying special government allowances from the State Council, 4 Outstanding Talents in Hainan Province, 48 Leading Talents, 216 Top Talents, and 445 Other High-level Talents. There are 4 postdoctoral research mobile stations and 21 academician innovation platforms. Selected as the second batch of pilot units for artificial intelligence to promote teacher team building by the Ministry of Education. The school actively promotes the comprehensive reform of education and teaching of "enrollment in large categories and training in different streams", vigorously carries out innovation and entrepreneurship education, and forms a high-quality education and teaching system that adapts to the sustainable development of local economy and society. It is one of the first batch of news colleges jointly built by the ministry and the school, the first batch of three-dimensional education pilot units of the Ministry of Education, and has been approved as a national key Marxist college, a national demonstration university for innovation and entrepreneurship education reform, and a national innovation and entrepreneurship education practice base. It has been approved as one national experimental teaching demonstration center, one national talent training model innovation experimental zone, and two national joint training demonstration bases for master's degree students in education. It has been approved as the National Base for the Inheritance of Chinese Excellent Traditional Culture in General Colleges and Universities by the Ministry of Education. In the past five years, it has been approved as 18 national first-class undergraduate professional construction sites, 9 national first-class undergraduate courses, 1 national excellent teacher training program reform project, 6 national teaching achievement awards, and 2 national planning textbooks. Students have won 357 national awards and 795 provincial awards in innovation and entrepreneurship competitions and subject competitions at the provincial and ministerial levels or above. The initial employment rate of graduates has ranked among the top public undergraduate colleges and universities in the province for many years. The school comprehensively promotes the construction of key disciplines, and builds a three-level classification, layered, and dynamic discipline classification development system consisting of national "first-class" key cultivation disciplines, provincial characteristic key disciplines, and school-level characteristic key disciplines. There are currently 12 provincial key disciplines. Focus on promoting the construction of the "three-fold project" of scientific research, and build 3 key laboratories of the Ministry of Education, 3 ministerial-level country and regional research bases, 8 Hainan Provincial Key Laboratories, 9 Engineering Centers, 13 Key Research Bases for Humanities and Social Sciences, 2 International Joint Research Centers, 1 Key New Think Tank, 4 Field Scientific Observation and Research Stations, and 2 Natural Science Popularization Bases. In the past five years, 562 scientific research projects at or above the provincial and ministerial levels, 102 scientific research awards at or above the provincial and ministerial levels, 1 first prize of Hainan Provincial National Humanities and Social Sciences Research Outstanding Achievement Award, and 2 first prizes of National Education Science Research Outstanding Achievement Award. More than 1,200 high-level papers have been published, 363 horizontal cooperation agreements have been signed, and 420 patents have been authorized. The school's teacher education characteristics are highlighted, and its social service functions are fully utilized. The university has carried out projects such as "Double 500 Normal Students and In-service Teachers Replacement Teaching Training" and "Weekend Mobile Teacher Training College". It was selected into the National Sports and Aesthetic Education Immersion Action Plan (only 20 schools in the country). It has co-built the "Hainan Teacher Education Reform and Innovation Experimental Zone" with Danzhou City and Ding'an County respectively. It has taken advantage of multiple disciplines to provide precise services in the fields of South China Sea development, Hainan ecological province construction, Li culture education, education poverty alleviation, protection and utilization of tropical plant resources, and inheritance and innovation of Hainan local culture. It has built a library with the largest and richest collection of Hainan local documents and the first natural science museum in Hainan Province - Hainan Biodiversity Museum. The university has built a national university science and technology park, which has attracted nearly 904 incubated enterprises. The university actively expands international and domestic cooperation and exchanges. It has established friendly inter-school cooperation relations with more than 60 countries and more than 100 universities and educational institutions, and carried out academic exchange activities. We have jointly run the major of Radio and Television Director with St. Petersburg State University of Film and Television, Russia, the major of Preschool Education with DePaul University, the major of Environmental Design with RUFA Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, Italy, and the major of Software Engineering with the National Institute of Information Technology in India. We have jointly built a Confucius Institute with SEGi University in Malaysia. We have signed a counterpart support agreement with Shaanxi Normal University. We have established cooperative relations with seven universities including Beijing Normal University, Northeast Normal University, Southwest University, and Beijing Foreign Studies University. We have established strategic cooperative relations with local governments such as Haikou City, Sansha City, Danzhou City, Dongfang City, Wuzhishan City, Ding'an County, Qiongzhong Li and Miao Autonomous County, and Fushun County in Sichuan Province. In July 2023, the school held its second party congress, proposing the grand goal of building a distinctive, domestically first-class, and internationally renowned high-level normal university, emphasizing the need to adhere to the "1343" development strategy, namely, to implement the fundamental task of "establishing morality and cultivating people"; to promote three key projects, including teacher education, discipline construction, and open education; to implement four major action plans, including "first-class academic leap", "breakthrough in talent introduction and cultivation", "excellent social services", and "campus cultural prosperity"; to improve the three major guarantee systems, including governance capacity, resource guarantee, and people's livelihood services.
