Chengdu University was founded in 1978. It is one of the first full-time general undergraduate colleges sponsored by local cities after the reform and opening up. The school implements a system of co-construction by the province and the city, with the city as the main body. It is a key university in Sichuan Province and Chengdu City, and is the host university of the Athletes' Village of the 31st World University Summer Games. The school has undergone many mergers, and its history can be traced back to the Public Sichuan Excellent Selection Normal School in 1906 and the Public Sichuan Provincial Women's Normal School in 1911. It now has a century-old Class III Class A comprehensive affiliated hospital, the Sichuan Antibiotics Industrial Research Institute, a national antibiotic research and development base, with the right to confer bachelor's and master's degrees, and a postdoctoral practice base. It is a university in the "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program" of the Ministry of Education, a university with national defense education characteristics of the Ministry of Education, a first-class undergraduate professional construction point project unit of the "Double Ten Thousand Plan" of the Ministry of Education, and a "priority cultivation" type construction unit of the Sichuan Provincial Doctoral Construction Unit Progressive Cultivation Plan, and has been awarded the FISU "Healthy Campus" Silver Certification. In the 2023 Times Higher Education World University Rankings, the school ranked 801-1000 in the world and 49-95 among universities in mainland China. The school has 10 disciplines, including art, literature, management, education, economics, law, engineering, medicine, science, and agriculture, and 72 undergraduate majors; there are 28 master's degree authorization points, including 9 first-level master's degree authorization disciplines such as Marxist theory, pharmacy, materials science and engineering, and design; 19 master's professional degree authorization categories such as materials and chemical engineering, biology and medicine; and a postdoctoral innovation practice base. Four disciplines, engineering, agricultural science, chemistry, and materials science, are among the top 1% in the world of ESI; the pharmacy discipline was selected as a high-level discipline in China by the Alumni Association in 2019. 27 majors have been approved as first-class undergraduate major construction points in the "Double 10,000 Plan" of the Ministry of Education, including 15 national first-class major construction points and 12 provincial first-class major construction points. There are 2 national characteristic majors, 4 majors in the national outstanding talent education and training plan, and 7 majors in the provincial outstanding talent education and training plan; 4 provincial application-oriented demonstration majors, and 2 provincial "curriculum ideological and political" demonstration majors; 5 majors such as automation have passed the professional certification of the Ministry of Education. The faculty currently has 1,721 full-time teachers, including nearly 800 teachers with senior and associate senior professional titles, more than 800 doctoral teachers, nearly 100 doctoral supervisors, and more than 800 master's supervisors. There are nearly 20 National Outstanding Young Scholars, Yangtze River Scholars, National Candidates of the New Century Hundred Thousand Talents Project, and experts enjoying special government allowances from the State Council, and more than 110 provincial academic and technical leaders, provincial outstanding experts with outstanding contributions. Three academicians of the two academies, two European academicians, and one academician of the Japanese Academy of Engineering were specially appointed, more than 40 Yangtze River Scholars, National Outstanding Young Scholars, and more than 100 specially appointed researchers (associate researchers). Professor Wang Qingyuan has been selected for the "China Highly Cited Scholars" list for 8 consecutive years, and was also selected for the "Career Influence" and "Annual Influence" lists of the top 2% of scientists in the world from 2020 to 2022. 12 teachers were selected for the "Annual Influence" list of the top 2% of scientists in the world in 2023. There are more than 27,000 full-time students in the school (including more than 2,700 graduate students and 25,237 undergraduate students). 6 national first-class courses, 43 provincial first-class courses, 16 provincial "curriculum ideological and political" demonstration courses, 7 provincial innovation and entrepreneurship education demonstration courses, 9 provincial application-oriented demonstration courses, 38 provincial quality courses, and the first batch of "Stanford Innovation and Entrepreneurship Course Experiment Centers" approved in the country. There are 8 provincial-level engineering practice education centers and off-campus practice education bases for college students, 3 provincial-level modern industrial colleges, 7 provincial-level experimental teaching demonstration centers, and 3 provincial-level virtual simulation experimental teaching centers approved. 329 projects of the Ministry of Education's industry-university cooperation and collaborative education projects and 2 new liberal arts research and reform practice projects of the Ministry of Education have been approved. In 2022, it won 1 national teaching achievement award. In the past three teaching achievement awards, a total of 41 provincial-level awards have been won, including 9 first prizes. In the past five years, students have won 1,422 national awards and 3,200 provincial awards in various subject competitions, including 231 provincial and above awards in the China "Internet +" College Students Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, 149 provincial and above awards in the "Challenge Cup", and won the "Winning Cup" of the "Challenge Cup" provincial competition for five consecutive years; 241 national college students' innovation and entrepreneurship training programs and 836 provincial college students' innovation and entrepreneurship training programs were approved. A training base for top innovative talents has been established - Zhang Lan College. There are more than 1,500 scientific researchers in scientific research. The school focuses on the layout of the national economic and social development, especially the major regional development strategies, and focuses on adapting to regional industrial clusters, key pillar industries and emerging industries. It has built 83 scientific research platforms including the National Low-carbon New Materials Discipline Innovation and Intelligence Base, the International Science and Technology Cooperation Base of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Provincial Key Laboratory, the Provincial Engineering Technology Research Center, the Provincial Engineering Laboratory, the Provincial Engineering Research Center, the Provincial Key Chinese Culture Research Institute, and the Provincial Social Science Federation's first batch of pilot laboratories. In the past five years, it has undertaken 177 national science and technology plan projects and 158 National Natural Science Foundation projects; undertaken 25 National Social Science Foundation projects and 7 National Art Foundation projects; won 129 scientific research awards at the provincial and ministerial levels and above; published more than 5,200 ESI papers in various disciplines, many of which were published in top international academic journals such as Nature-Microbiology, including 1,819 ESI papers in various disciplines in 2022; and published 405 CSSCI papers. The "Ultra-long Life Fatigue Crack Initiation Mechanism and Life Prediction" in charge of our teachers won the second prize of the National Natural Science Award, and the "Key Technology and Industrialization of Acarbose Raw Materials and Preparations Production" in which they participated won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award. The "Research on the Names of "Three Rites"" in charge was selected into the "National Philosophy and Social Science Achievement Library". In the 2023 Nature Index ranking, the school ranked 561st in the world and 140th among mainland universities. The International Exchange School has signed a memorandum of cooperation with 178 universities or institutions in 41 countries and regions, and cooperated with the University of Stirling in the United Kingdom to host the Stirling College, and carried out 4 undergraduate and junior college Sino-foreign cooperative education projects, 40 undergraduate, master and doctoral multi-level overseas joint training projects, and 42 overseas inter-school exchange programs. Local service schools are fully integrated into the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing Twin Cities Economic Circle, closely connected with the needs of Chengdu's industrial ecosystem and key industrial chain construction, and built an ecosystem of "government-school-enterprise interaction, industry-university-research integration" to help local transfer and transformation of scientific and technological achievements. It has established the Chengdu Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, H3C IT College, Civilization Mutual Learning and "Belt and Road" Research Center, Chengdu Ecological Civilization Research Institute, Chengdu Government Affairs Management and Cultural Construction Research Center, Chengdu Journalism College, Tianfu Culture Research Institute, Chengdu Documentation Center, Chengdu Football Academy, Chengdu Research Institute, Chengdu Tourism Research Institute, Chengdu Exhibition Economic Development Research Institute, Chengdu Pharmaceutical Industry Technology Research Institute, Early Childhood Sports Development Research Center (the first in the country), Sichuan Province Literature and Art Criticism (Chengdu University) Base, etc. Location Conditions The university is located in Chengdu, a famous historical and cultural city in China, a national central city, and a core city of Chengdu-Chongqing. It is one of the important integrated universities in the national new era of revitalizing higher education in the central and western regions, taking Chongqing and Chengdu as strategic fulcrums, giving play to the spillover effect of university clusters, and building a bridgehead for the opening up of higher education in the southwest region.
