Bohai University was founded in February 1950. It is a comprehensive university sponsored by the Liaoning Provincial Government. It is located in Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province, a historical and cultural city on the coast of the Bohai Sea. The school is a qualified institution for recommending outstanding undergraduate graduates to study for a master's degree without examination and a Chinese government scholarship institution for international students to come to China. The school covers an area of more than 2,250 acres and a total construction area of 600,000 square meters. There are 20 secondary colleges, 53 undergraduate majors, 17 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points and 11 professional master's degree authorization points, covering economics, law, education, literature, history, philosophy, science, engineering, agriculture, management, art and other disciplines. There are nearly 25,000 full-time master's students and undergraduate students. The school currently has more than 1,400 teachers, including more than 200 professors and nearly 500 doctors. The National Torch Program Jinzhou Silicon Materials and Solar Cell Industry Base Public Testing Center has been built, and there are 11 provincial university innovation teams. The university currently has 11 national first-class professional construction sites, 24 provincial first-class professional construction sites, 18 national and provincial characteristic (demonstration) majors and pilot majors, and 8 teacher education majors have passed the second-level certification of teacher education majors of the Ministry of Education. It has built 150 national and provincial first-class courses, 24 national and provincial quality textbooks, nearly 300 industry-university cooperation projects, teaching reform projects, and provincial teaching reform projects of the Ministry of Education, and won 106 national and provincial excellent teaching achievement awards, ranking among the top universities in the province. The Journal of Bohai University (Philosophy and Social Sciences Edition) has been rated as "National University Social Science Excellent Journal", "National University Excellent Journal", and Liaoning Provincial First-Class Journal. In the past five years, the faculty of the school has presided over and completed 956 scientific research projects (including 128 national projects), including national two-fund projects, major scientific research projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Education and Liaoning Province, and has won more than 500 scientific research awards of various types; published more than 5,000 papers, of which more than 2,300 papers were included in the three major retrieval systems of SCI, EI and CPCI; published more than 280 academic works, and obtained 646 invention patents. The latest ESI data released by Clarivate Analytics in July 2023 shows that four disciplines of Bohai University, namely agronomy, chemistry, engineering, and computer science, are among the top 1% of ESI disciplines in the world; according to the "China Postgraduate Education and Discipline Professional Evaluation Report (2021-2022)", our school ranks 156th in the comprehensive competitiveness ranking of first-class disciplines in Chinese universities, and ranks 5th among universities in Liaoning Province; in the USNews 2022-2023 World University Rankings, our school ranks 997th among world universities and 106th among domestic universities; in the 2022 Soft Science China Best Disciplines Ranking, four disciplines of our school are in the top 50%, ranking tied for 9th among universities in Liaoning Province. The school has established exchange and cooperation relations with more than 30 colleges and universities and educational institutions in Poland, France, South Korea, Russia, Burundi, Central Africa, Cyprus, the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan and other countries, and has received international students from 40 countries and regions to study at the school, sent scholars to give lectures, and selected young and middle-aged teachers and outstanding students to study or pursue degrees abroad. The school has established Confucius Institutes in cooperation with the University of Burundi and the University of Bangui in Central Africa, which have been fully recognized by the National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language and approved by the Ministry of Education as a commissioned institution for the training of Chinese government scholarship students in China. The school has complete infrastructure, the library has a collection of more than 3 million books, and the instruments and equipment fully meet the needs of teaching and scientific research. The campus environment is beautiful and the trees are lush. In 2019, it was named "Liaoning's Most Beautiful Campus".
