Xi'an Shiyou University is the only multidisciplinary general university with petroleum and petrochemical as its feature, which was cared for and advocated by Xi Zhongxun and other older generation proletarian revolutionaries. It was the earliest and long-term layout in Northwest my country. The history of the school can be traced back to the Lanzhou surveying and drilling training course held by the Petroleum General Administration of the Ministry of Fuel Industry of the Central Government in the early days of the founding of New China. The school was founded in October 1951. With the approval of the Finance and Economics Committee of the Northwest Military and Political Committee, the Northwest Petroleum Administration Bureau established the Northwest Petroleum Industry College, which was affiliated to the Ministry of Fuel Industry of the Central Government. In 1958, the school was upgraded to an undergraduate school and renamed Xi'an Shiyou University. In 1969, the school was rebuilt into a factory. In 1980, with the approval of the State Council, Xi'an Shiyou University resumed its operation and was affiliated to the Ministry of Petroleum Industry. In 1990, the school was approved as a master's degree authorization unit. In 2000, it was transferred from China National Petroleum Corporation to a central and local joint construction, mainly managed by the Shaanxi Provincial People's Government. In 2003, it was approved by the Ministry of Education to be renamed Xi'an Shiyou University and approved as a joint training unit for doctoral students. In 2018, the school was approved as a doctoral degree-granting institution. The school is a joint institution of the three major national oil companies and the Shaanxi Provincial People's Government, a national "14th Five-Year Plan for Promoting a Strong Nation in Education" construction university, a Chinese government scholarship for international students in China, a "double first-class" cultivation university in Shaanxi Province, and a high-level university construction university. The school currently has three campuses: Yanta, Mingde, and Huyi. The Yanta campus is located at No. 18, East Section, Dianzi 2nd Road, Xi'an, the Mingde campus is located at No. 11, Zhangba East Road, Xi'an, and the Huyi campus is located at No. 560, Fengjing Road, Xi'an. It covers a total area of 2,078 acres, with a total value of fixed and intangible assets of 3.473 billion yuan. The school recruits students from 31 provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities) and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and has 18 colleges (departments). There are more than 17,000 undergraduates, more than 3,900 full-time graduate students, more than 1,200 part-time graduate students, more than 1,000 international students of various types, and more than 23,000 continuing education students. Since its establishment, the university has trained more than 170,000 graduates of various types. The university has distinctive disciplines and majors, covering eight categories of science, engineering, economics, management, literature, law, education and art, and a complete system for cultivating undergraduate, master and doctoral talents. There is 1 first-level discipline authorized for doctoral degrees, 5 second-level disciplines authorized for doctoral degrees, 16 first-level disciplines authorized for master's degrees, and 15 master's professional degree authorization categories. Engineering has entered the top 1% of the ESI global ranking and was rated as "National Engineering Master Graduate Education Characteristic Engineering Field"; there is 1 first-class discipline in Shaanxi Province, 7 provincial advantageous disciplines, and 1 provincial characteristic construction project of philosophy and social sciences. The school has a postdoctoral research mobile station for petroleum and natural gas engineering, which is a postdoctoral innovation base in Shaanxi Province. The school offers 59 undergraduate majors, including 12 national first-class undergraduate majors, 5 national characteristic majors, 5 pilot majors of the Ministry of Education's "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program", 3 national professional comprehensive reform pilot projects, 15 provincial first-class undergraduate majors, 10 provincial characteristic majors, 5 provincial famous majors, and 10 second bachelor's degree majors. It has the qualification of "recommending outstanding undergraduate graduates to study for a master's degree without examination". The scale of the school's talent team has grown steadily, the structure has been continuously optimized, and the quality has been continuously improved. There are more than 1,860 faculty members, more than 1,330 full-time teachers, more than 720 with senior professional titles, including 48 second-level and third-level professors; more than 640 doctoral and master's supervisors; more than 850 teachers with doctoral degrees. Students have won more than 6,100 awards for subject competitions and scientific and technological innovation activities at the provincial level and above. The school is a provincial popular science education base, a practice education innovation and entrepreneurship base, an innovation and entrepreneurship education research and training base, and a popular science education base of the China Petroleum Society. The school strives to create a talent training brand of "Four Realities and One Newness" that is honest, solid, simple, down-to-earth, and innovative. Graduates are widely welcomed by employers. It has been rated as an advanced unit for graduate employment by the Ministry of Education and Shaanxi Province, and has been approved as a provincial exemplary university graduate employment and entrepreneurship guidance service agency. The school's history of running schools and talent training results were selected into the theoretical documentary "Sincerity" to commemorate the 110th anniversary of Xi Zhongxun's birth. The school focuses on the national energy strategy and the needs of regional economic and social development, vigorously carries out scientific research, and continuously improves its scientific and technological innovation capabilities. There are 45 national and provincial scientific research bases, 1 provincial key scientific and technological innovation team, and 14 Shaanxi university youth innovation teams, forming 7 characteristic and advantageous scientific research fields such as oil and gas exploration theory technology and engineering application.
