Binzhou Medical College is an applied undergraduate college in Shandong Province, a college jointly built by Shandong Province and the city, and a doctoral degree-granting project construction unit in Shandong Province. Its predecessor was the former National Shandong University Medical College, which was founded in 1946. It was independently established as Qingdao Medical College in March 1956. In October 1970, it was relocated to Beizhen, the seat of the Huimin District Administrative Office of Shandong Province. In November 1974, the Beizhen Branch of Qingdao Medical College was established. In September 1981, it was renamed Beizhen Medical College. In March 1983, it was renamed Binzhou Medical College with its seat. In 2002, the Yantai campus was put into use. At present, the school has developed into a provincial undergraduate medical school with medical disciplines as its advantages, higher education for the disabled and higher rehabilitation education as its characteristics, and the infiltration, integration and coordinated development of multiple disciplines such as medicine, science, engineering, management and education. The school has 17,793 full-time students, including 15,538 undergraduates and 1,919 postgraduates. It recruits students from 29 provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the central government, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and 336 international students. It currently has 16 schools (departments), including the First Clinical Medical College, the Second Clinical Medical College, the Basic Medical College, the School of Special Education, the School of Stomatology, the School of Nursing, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, the School of Marxism, the School of Pharmacy (School of Wine), the School of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, the School of Public Health and Management, the School of Foreign Languages and International Exchange, the School of Rehabilitation Medicine, the School of Geriatrics, the School of Medical Imaging, and the School of Continuing Education. The school has always taken moral education as its fundamental task and talent cultivation as its center, adhering to the school motto of "benevolence and wonderful skills", promoting the school spirit of "unity, rigor, truth-seeking and innovation", practicing the teaching style of "teaching and educating people, being a role model, rigorous scholarship, dedication and dedication" and the academic style of "advocating science, pursuing truth, diligent study, honesty and trustworthiness". Over the past 40 years of independent operation, it has trained 172,000 medical and medical-related talents of various types for the society. The quality of student training has been fully affirmed by employers and widely praised by all sectors of society. It has created a graduate brand of "simple style, solid foundation and down-to-earth work", and a group of academic masters, industry leaders and grassroots medical workers who save lives and heal the wounded, such as Meng Xiangjin, an academician of the American Academy of Sciences, have emerged, making positive contributions to the development of the country and the nation. In 2006, the university received excellent results in the evaluation of undergraduate teaching work of the Ministry of Education; in 2016, it passed the review and evaluation of undergraduate teaching work of the Ministry of Education; in 2013, it was the first among universities in Shandong Province to pass the Ministry of Education's clinical medicine professional certification with an excellent result of "6 years of full certification", and in 2020, the certification period was approved to be extended to 10 years; in 2022, the prosthetics and orthotics engineering major passed the ISPO international certification and obtained a valid certification period of 3 years. The school is now a national clinical medicine and traditional Chinese medicine professional level test unit, the first batch of undergraduate professional comprehensive reform pilot units of the Ministry of Education's "Undergraduate Teaching Project" local universities, the "5+3" clinical medicine education comprehensive reform pilot unit of the Excellent Doctor Education and Training Program, and the reform pilot university of the Excellent Doctor Traditional Chinese Medicine Education and Training Program; it is a national standardized training base for resident doctors (dental resident doctors, traditional Chinese medicine resident doctors), a training base for 10,000 nursing talents, a training base for clinical pharmacists, and a training base for general practitioners. Special Education In 1985, the school founded the first undergraduate major (Department of Medicine II) in my country that specifically recruits disabled young people, creating a precedent for higher education for the disabled in my country. In 2012, the school enrolled visually impaired students, and in 2018, it enrolled hearing-impaired students, filling the gap in the education of visually impaired and hearing-impaired students at the undergraduate level in medical schools across the country. Over the past 30 years, it has explored and formed the "Binzhou Medical College Model" for the training of disabled talents with "integration of the disabled and the healthy, combination of teaching and rehabilitation, and integration of learning and application", and has trained more than 1,300 disabled medical talents for the society, making positive contributions to promoting the cause of national progress and civilization. The school is now a national higher education base for the disabled, a standardized training base for blind medical massage, and a standardized training base for rehabilitation physicians. The disciplines include 35 undergraduate majors, including clinical medicine, stomatology, nursing, pediatrics, traditional Chinese medicine, pharmacy, rehabilitation therapy, special education, biopharmaceuticals, and intelligent medical engineering. Among them, there are 3 national first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 4 national characteristic majors, 4 Shandong Province high-level application-oriented project construction professional groups, and 25 first-class professional construction sites. It has 7 first-level disciplines authorized to grant master's degrees and 9 master's professional degree authorization points. Clinical medicine is committed to the cultivation of "excellent doctors" and the construction of new medical sciences. It has been selected into the list of "first-class disciplines in Shandong Province" and "high-level disciplines" in Shandong Province. It has been approved as a professional docking industry project for the transformation of new and old kinetic energy in Shandong Province, and has entered the top 5‰ of the ESI global ranking; pharmacy insists on the integration of industry, academia, research and application, and the characteristic development of school-enterprise cooperation. It has been selected as a "high-level discipline" cultivation discipline in Shandong Province, and pharmacology and toxicology have entered the top 1% of the ESI global ranking. Clinical medicine, basic medicine, and pharmacy have entered the top 50% of the "China's Best Disciplines Ranking by Soft Science", and oral medicine and nursing have entered the top 50% of the GDI University First-Class Discipline Ranking; the school has entered the ranks of A universities in China's medical strength by Soft Science. There is one key research room of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, 8 Shandong Provincial Technology Innovation Centers, Engineering Research Centers, Engineering Laboratories, Collaborative Innovation Centers of Colleges and Universities, and Medical Humanities Research Centers. The province and the city jointly built one Shandong Provincial Key Laboratory Cultivation Base, and the directly affiliated hospitals have 32 provincial clinical key specialties. There are 2 national first-class courses, 1 national first-class virtual simulation experimental teaching course, 29 first-class courses in Shandong Province, 3 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, and 1 provincial talent training model innovation experimental zone. The scientific research school is a base for the transformation and technology transfer of scientific and technological achievements in Shandong Province. In the past five years, it has undertaken more than 1,400 scientific research projects, including 109 National Natural Science Foundation projects, 5 National Social Science Foundation projects, and 295 provincial and ministerial projects; won 27 provincial and ministerial scientific research achievement awards, including 3 first prizes; published more than 3,000 papers in SCI, CSSCI, and excellent journals, including 12 papers in journals such as Nature, New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, and Cell; authorized 301 patents, including 182 invention patents; participated in the development of my country's first independently developed and approved original ADC anti-tumor new drug-Edixi injection. It has undertaken one new liberal arts research and reform practice project of the Ministry of Education, 35 provincial teaching reform projects, and 19 educational science planning projects. It has won 23 provincial teaching achievement awards, including one special prize and eight first prizes. It has won one second prize in the first national textbook construction and three first-class textbooks for ordinary higher education in Shandong Province. It has hosted "Chinese Hospital Statistics" and "Journal of Binzhou Medical College", both of which are publicly distributed at home and abroad. The faculty currently has 11,350 teaching and medical staff (including 5 directly affiliated hospitals), including 2,370 senior professional and technical personnel; 789 doctors; 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 12 specially appointed academicians (including 4 foreign academicians), 4 national talents, 6 national outstanding teachers, 4 new century outstanding talents of the Ministry of Education, 9 experts enjoying special allowances from the State Council; 19 "Taishan Scholars" specially appointed professors, 14 "Taishan Scholars" young experts, 4 Taishan industry leading talents, 8 young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions in Shandong Province, 1 chief expert of key disciplines (laboratories) in colleges and universities, 9 provincial teaching masters; 1 national Huang Danian-style teacher team, 2 Shandong Huang Danian-style teacher teams, 5 provincial teaching teams, and 1 provincial scientific research innovation team. Conditions and facilities The school covers an area of 1,718.17 acres, with a total construction area of 900,000 square meters; state-owned assets of 1.74 billion yuan, teaching and scientific research equipment with a total value of 470 million yuan; the library has a collection of 1.453 million books. There are 5 directly affiliated tertiary hospitals, among which Binzhou Affiliated Hospital is the regional medical center of Shandong Province with 2,875 open beds. Yantai Affiliated Hospital is the first provincial large-scale tertiary comprehensive hospital in Yantai and Weihai, with 1,500 beds. Yantai Yantaishan Hospital (Yantai Sino-French Friendship Hospital) is one of the earliest Western medicine hospitals in China, with 2,016 beds. Yantai Stomatological Hospital is a tertiary tertiary specialized hospital with 260 comprehensive oral treatment chairs and 50 beds. Binzhou Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital is the regional traditional Chinese medicine medical center of Shandong Province with 821 beds. There are 9 non-directly affiliated hospitals, 35 teaching hospitals and 228 practical teaching bases. The school has established friendly exchanges and cooperation with more than 40 universities and medical institutions, including the University of Tennessee in the United States, the University of Canterbury in the United Kingdom, the University of Uppsala in Sweden, the Berlin School of Health and Sports in Germany, the Vitebsk State Medical University in Belarus, the University of Raman in Malaysia, and the Lingnan University in South Korea, as well as well-known domestic universities such as Shandong University, Tianjin University, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the Yantai Institute of Coastal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and large pharmaceutical groups such as Shandong International Biotechnology Park, Rongchang Pharmaceutical, Meibao Group, and Joy Home Textiles.
