Xinxiang Medical College is located in Xinxiang City, Henan Province. It is the only independent western medicine undergraduate college in Henan Province. The origin of the school can be traced back to the western medicine clinic opened by Dr. Luo Weiling in the ancient city of Weihui in 1896. Medical education began in 1922 at the Huimin Hospital Nursing School, which enrolled four-year nursing students and awarded diplomas by the Chinese Nursing Association (named "Chinese Nurses Association" in 1923). In 1949, the Jiluyu Health School and Harrison Hospital moved in, and the Pingyuan Provincial Medical School was established in 1950. The school has gone through the development stages of North China Second Medical School, Henan Jixian Medical School, and Xinxiang District Medical College. In 1962, it was renamed Yubei Medical College; in 1982, it was upgraded to undergraduate and named Xinxiang Medical College; in 1996, it passed the undergraduate teaching work qualification evaluation organized by the former State Education Commission; in 1998, it obtained the right to confer master's degrees; in 2006, it successfully passed the undergraduate teaching level evaluation of the Ministry of Education and obtained excellence; in 2016, it was praised by the expert group in the review and evaluation of the undergraduate teaching work of the Ministry of Education; in 2016, it became a supporting university of the "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan" National 100 Central and Western Colleges and Universities Basic Capacity Building Project; in 2018, it successfully passed the Ministry of Education's clinical medicine professional certification; in 2020, it was approved as a national higher education discipline innovation and intelligence base ("111 Project"); in 2021, it was approved as a key project construction unit of the only doctoral degree-granting institution in Henan Province; in 2022, it was approved as a national regional mental medical center. The school offers various types of education, including full-time education, Sino-foreign cooperative education and continuing education, and has a relatively complete talent training system for graduate students, undergraduates, international students, etc. There are more than 15,000 faculty and staff (including 5 clinical colleges), nearly 30,000 students of various types, 15 affiliated hospitals, and 4 domestic and foreign publicly issued publications, of which 2 are national Chinese core journals. There are 36 undergraduate majors, 15 national and provincial characteristic majors, 23 first-class undergraduate major construction sites, and 64 first-class undergraduate courses. The number of students enrolled in five-year medical majors has accounted for more than half of the province for many years, supporting half of the higher medical education in Henan Province. Pediatrics is one of the first eight universities in the country to resume enrollment in pediatrics. The school attaches great importance to discipline construction. It has 2 national key clinical specialties, 1 national key TCM specialties, 1 Henan Province Class A characteristic discipline group, 2 Henan Province characteristic backbone disciplines, 1 Henan Province special and urgent characteristic backbone discipline, and 22 provincial key disciplines and medical key disciplines. The medical technology discipline was rated B in the fifth round of discipline evaluation, and basic medicine and psychology were listed in the Soft Science "China's Best Discipline Ranking" in 2022 and 2023 respectively. There are 12 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points and 10 professional degree master's degree authorization points, and 22 master's students have been trained. It has the largest biological sample library of mental illness in the country. Tuberculosis has ranked first in the province and ninth in the country in the past five years. Clinical medicine disciplines are in the top 3.623‰ of the ESI global ranking, and pharmacology and toxicology and biology and biochemistry disciplines are in the top 1% of the ESI global ranking. The school's ESI comprehensive ranking ranks 34th among medical universities in the country. The school insists on quality-based schooling. All ordinary undergraduate majors are included in the first-level enrollment of Henan Province. Won 3 national teaching achievement awards. It has won the first prize in the Central China Division of the National College Students Clinical Skills Competition for 6 consecutive years. The pass rate of clinical and dental practitioners of graduates is higher than the national average. It has been awarded the first batch of national pilot units for comprehensive reform of clinical medicine, the pilot unit of the national excellent doctor training program, and the first batch of national clinical teaching and training demonstration centers. It has 1 national university discipline innovation and intelligence introduction base, 1 national and local joint engineering laboratory, 1 national regional medical and health center, 4 provincial key laboratories, 15 provincial international joint laboratories, 32 provincial collaborative innovation centers, research centers and other discipline platforms, and has established postdoctoral research workstations, postdoctoral innovation practice bases, and academician workstations. In the past five years, it has undertaken more than 500 national and provincial scientific research projects. It has won more than 50 provincial and ministerial scientific research awards. The National Natural Science Foundation project has ranked among the top in the province for 9 consecutive years. The school insists on open education. Focusing on international cooperation and exchanges, it cooperates with Bloomfield College in the United States, the University of Turin in Italy, and the Polytechnic Institute of Castelo Branco in Portugal to carry out Sino-foreign cooperative education projects; signed a Sino-foreign cooperative education institution agreement with the University of Beira Intra in Portugal; and carried out a joint training doctoral program with the University of Science Malaysia. Adhering to the principle of "invite in" and "go out", we invited experts and scholars such as Academician Fan Daiming, Academician Qi Faren, and Academician Xu Jianguo to exchange ideas at the school, introduced Professor Bernard Mellison, a French academician and foreign academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, full-time, and selected outstanding teachers to study, lecture or conduct academic research abroad, creating a good atmosphere for international exchanges. The school's social reputation and influence continue to improve.
