South China University of Technology is located in Guangzhou. It is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education. The campus is divided into Wushan Campus, University Town Campus and Guangzhou International Campus. It is the first recipient of the "National Civilized Campus". The school has a long history of education, which can be traced back to the Guangdong Provincial No. 1 Class A Industrial School (historically known as the "Red Class A Industrial School") established in 1918; it was officially established in 1952 during the adjustment period of national colleges and universities, and is one of the "Four Major Engineering Colleges" in New China; it became a national key university in 1960; in 1981, it was approved by the State Council as the first batch of doctoral and master's degree awarding institutions; in 1993, it pioneered the joint construction of the ministry and the province in national universities; in 1995, it entered the ranks of the "211 Project"; in 2001, it entered the ranks of the "985 Project"; in 2017, it entered the ranks of "Double First-Class" construction A-level universities, and since 2020, it has been ranked among the top 200 in the Shanghai Ranking of World Universities. Today, South China University of Technology has developed into a comprehensive research university with a strong focus on engineering, a combination of science, engineering and medicine, and coordinated development of multiple disciplines such as management, economics, literature and law. The overall level of disciplines such as light industry technology and engineering, architecture, urban and rural planning, food science and engineering, chemical engineering and technology, environmental science and engineering, materials science and engineering, mechanical engineering, management science and engineering, and Marxist theory ranks among the top universities in China; 14 disciplines are in the top 1% of the ESI global ranking, among which engineering, materials science, chemistry, agricultural science, and computer science are among the top 1‰ in the world. Since its establishment, the school has trained 610,000 students of various types of higher education for the country. The employment rate of graduates has been among the top universities in the country and Guangdong Province for many years. A large number of alumni have become backbones of science and technology, famous entrepreneurs and leading cadres in my country. The school is known as the "cradle of engineers", "cradle of entrepreneurs" and "Huangpu Military Academy in the new energy vehicle industry", and has been selected as a national demonstration base for mass entrepreneurship and innovation. The university promotes the construction of a first-class university with its strong original scientific research and innovation capabilities. It has built 29 national scientific research platforms and 231 ministerial and provincial scientific research platforms, ranking first among universities in China and first among universities in Guangdong. The number of invention patent applications, invention patent authorizations, and valid invention patents are firmly in the forefront of universities in China. Since 2009, the number of Chinese patent awards won by the first patentee has ranked first among universities in China. In 2017, the Guangzhou International Campus was jointly built by the Ministry of Education, Guangdong Province, Guangzhou City and South China University of Technology. This is a new engine for the school's "Double First-Class" construction and another new exploration of the local internationalization model of Chinese higher education. In accordance with the development orientation of "extraordinary and first-class", the campus is rooted in China, integrates China and foreign countries, gathers global innovation elements, and helps build an international education demonstration zone in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
