Shaoxing University of Arts and Sciences is a general full-time comprehensive college approved by the Ministry of Education. It is located in the historical and cultural city of Shaoxing. The school's history originated from the Shanhui Junior Normal School founded in 1909. Mr. Lu Xun served as the supervisor (principal) of the Shanhui Junior Normal School. In 1996, Shaoxing Normal College and Shaoxing Higher Vocational College merged to establish Shaoxing University of Arts and Sciences. In 2000, Shaoxing Health School, Shangyu Normal School, and Shaoxing Urban and Rural Construction Workers Secondary Vocational School were successively incorporated. In 2005, the school passed the undergraduate teaching level assessment of the Ministry of Education with good results. In 2013, it was approved by the State Council Academic Degrees Committee as a master's degree awarding institution. In December 2022, it was approved by the Zhejiang Provincial Academic Degrees Committee as a doctoral degree awarding project construction unit. The school has campuses such as the headquarters (Fengzejiang, Nanshan), Lanting, and Shangyu, covering an area of 2,238.78 acres and a total construction area of 744,300 square meters. The total value of teaching and scientific research equipment is 606 million yuan, the library has 2.0972 million paper books, about 1.3654 million electronic books, 3.0117 million Chinese and foreign electronic journals, and 52 databases. There are 15 secondary colleges. The school recruits students from 26 provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and currently has more than 17,000 full-time students. There are also independent colleges (Yuanpei College) and directly affiliated hospitals. The college system reform and civilized dormitory construction have twice won the first prize for outstanding achievements and innovative achievements in student apartment work in colleges and universities nationwide. It has 17 master's degree programs, including 8 first-level discipline master's degree authorization programs and 9 professional degree master's degree authorization programs; 6 provincial first-class disciplines (Class B); 4 disciplines of engineering, chemistry, environmental science/ecology, and computer science are among the top 1% in the world in the ESI international discipline ranking. It has 17 provincial and ministerial scientific research platforms such as the Zhejiang Provincial Key Laboratory of Rock Mechanics and Geological Hazards and the Ministry of Education's first batch of national general colleges and universities Chinese excellent traditional culture inheritance bases. It has established inter-school cooperation and exchange relations with more than 70 universities in 27 countries (regions), including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Russia, and Japan.
