Hubei Medical College is a medical college with a focus on medicine, and a collaborative development of medicine, science, engineering, management and other disciplines. It is the only independent general medical college of western medicine in Hubei Province and the adjacent areas of Hubei, Henan, Chongqing and Shaanxi. It is located in the center of Shiyan, one of the "Top Ten Charming Cities in China" - the location of "Taoist Holy Land Wudang Mountain and China's Water Capital Danjiangkou". The school was founded in 1965 and was originally named Yunyang Branch of Wuhan Medical College. It began general undergraduate education in 1977, and was renamed Tongji Medical University Yunyang Medical College in 1986. It was independently established and named Yunyang Medical College in 1994. In 2010, it was approved by the Ministry of Education and renamed Hubei Medical College. In 1995, the university began to jointly train postgraduate students. In 1996, it was the first batch to pass the national undergraduate qualification assessment of ordinary colleges and universities. In 2006, it accepted the undergraduate teaching level assessment of the Ministry of Education and obtained an excellent conclusion. In 2013, it was approved by the Academic Degree Committee of the State Council as a master's degree awarding institution. In the same year, it began to provide undergraduate and postgraduate education for international students. In 2017, it passed the review and evaluation of undergraduate teaching work of the Ministry of Education. In the same year, the main discipline of clinical medicine entered the top 1% of the ESI global ranking. In 2018, the school officially entered the "Double First-Class" construction square of Hubei Province. The school is a national civilized unit and a national civilized campus; a "Double First-Class" discipline construction university in Hubei Province, a doctoral degree authorization unit project construction university; a Hubei Province general medicine education and free medical student training base, a Hubei Province public health talent training base; a national clinical teaching and training demonstration center. It has three national first-class undergraduate majors in clinical medicine, nursing, and pharmacy, 10 provincial first-class undergraduate majors, 6 national first-class courses, 1 national course ideological and political demonstration course, 6 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, and undertakes 2 national "Excellent Physician Training Program" projects and a number of provincial major teaching and research projects. The university enrolls students from 31 provinces (municipalities and autonomous regions) across the country. It currently has 11,064 full-time undergraduates, 1,740 postgraduates and 270 international students. It has trained more than 120,000 medical talents of all levels and types for the country and society. The university insists on developing the university with talents. The Journal of Hubei Medical College is publicly issued at home and abroad and is included in databases such as China Academic Journals (CD-ROM Edition), Wanfang Data-Digital Journal Group and Weipu Information-Journal Resources. In recent years, the university has undertaken 1,127 vertical projects of various levels and types, including 81 national projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation of China Key Project, the National Key R&D Program Sub-Project, and the National Natural Science Foundation of China General Project, and 111 provincial and ministerial projects.
