It is a provincial university with the right to confer master's degrees. It began to train undergraduates in 1977, obtained a master's degree awarding unit in 2006, and was approved as a Guangdong Province doctoral degree awarding project construction university in 2021. Historical evolution. The school was formerly known as Guangdong University for Nationalities. It was founded in 1957 and its first president was Comrade Luo Ming, an older generation revolutionary. It is one of the first universities in China to grant bachelor's degrees. In 1998, it was renamed Guangdong Vocational and Technical Teachers College, and transformed into vocational and technical teacher education to train teachers for vocational colleges.
