Henan Institute of Science and Technology is a provincial general undergraduate college. The school was founded in 1939. Its predecessor was the Department of Biology of the University of Yan'an Academy of Natural Sciences, which was founded by the Communist Party of China in its early days. It has gone through the periods of Agricultural College of Northern University, Agricultural College of North China University, Changzhi Branch of Agricultural College of North China University, Changzhi Branch of Beijing Agricultural University, Pingyuan Agricultural College, Baiquan Agricultural College, Henan Vocational and Technical Normal College, etc. In May 2004, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, it was renamed Henan Institute of Science and Technology. The school continues the red blood, adheres to the original intention of education, takes root in the fertile soil of the Central Plains, and has formed a distinctive school-running feature of "originating from agriculture, prospering in agriculture, developing in agriculture, and serving agriculture". The school is located in Xinxiang City, Henan Province, a national civilized city and a national health city, covering an area of 2,021 acres and a school building area of nearly 790,000 square meters. Over the past 80 years since its establishment, the university has covered 9 major disciplines, including agriculture, engineering, science, management, education, literature, economics, law, and art. It has 25 teaching units, 70 undergraduate majors, and more than 29,000 full-time students. The library has a total of more than 3.6 million books and 56 Chinese and foreign databases. The school has 4 national first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 15 national characteristic majors, comprehensive reform pilot majors, pilot majors for the reform of the excellent vocational teacher training plan, and pilot majors for the reform of the excellent agricultural and forestry talent training plan, 38 first-class majors, characteristic majors, comprehensive reform pilot majors, and pilot majors for the reform of undergraduate engineering education talent training models in Henan Province, and 3 characteristic industry colleges and industrial colleges in Henan Province. Since 2001, we have won 3 national teaching achievement awards, 66 provincial teaching achievement awards, 4 national first-class courses, and 14 provincial planning textbooks for the "14th Five-Year Plan". There are more than 1,900 faculty and staff, including more than 650 senior professional and technical personnel and more than 630 doctoral students. The university has completed 4,565 scientific research projects, including international cooperation projects, national "863" and "973" programs, natural science funds, major scientific and technological breakthroughs, and major special scientific and technological support plans for genetically modified organisms, and won 1,889 scientific and technological achievement awards, including 3 national technological invention awards and 7 national science and technology progress awards. In particular, the project "Selection and Application of Short-stalked, High-yield, Multi-resistant and Widely Adaptable New Wheat Variety Dwarf 58" bred by the school in 2013 won the first prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, making a significant contribution to the construction of the national grain production core area. It was commended by the Henan Provincial People's Government and became the pride of universities in the province. In 2020, the wheat varieties "Bainong 207" and "Bainong 4199" ranked first and third in the national wheat promotion area respectively. In 2023, our school was selected by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs for two leading wheat varieties and one main technology for plant protection, achieving a breakthrough in the selection of both leading varieties and main technologies. The school strives to promote open education and actively carry out all-round cooperation in international academic exchanges and talent training. The school has established long-term friendly and cooperative relations with more than 20 universities in the United States, Britain, Canada, Australia, Hungary, Ukraine, Belarus, Malaysia and other countries. Cooperate with Sumy National Agricultural University of Ukraine to establish a Sino-foreign cooperative school-Henan Institute of Science and Technology Sumy International College; carry out talent training projects with East Carolina University in the United States and Putra University in Malaysia, and receive special funding from the China Scholarship Council; co-build 3 provincial international joint laboratories with universities in the United States, Hungary and Ukraine; invite foreign experts from Germany, Australia and other countries to build a provincial laboratory of outstanding foreign scientists; long-term employment of foreign experts such as academicians and fellows from the United States, Germany and Australia to give lectures and courses.
