Nanjing Xiaozhuang University is a full-time public undergraduate college jointly established by Jiangsu Province and Nanjing City and under the jurisdiction of Nanjing City. The predecessor of the school was the "Xiaozhuang Experimental Rural Normal School" founded by the great people's educator Mr. Tao Xingzhi in 1927. It is the birthplace of rural normal education in my country and the source of the spirit of modern Chinese educators. In 1951, with the approval of Premier Zhou Enlai, Nanjing Xiaozhuang Normal School was reopened. In 2000, Nanjing Xiaozhuang Normal School, Nanjing Normal College and Nanjing Education College merged to establish Nanjing Xiaozhuang University. In 2014, Nanjing Preschool Normal School was incorporated. Over the past century, Nanjing Xiaozhuang University has always shared the destiny of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and played an active role in the magnificent process of educational reform and development. Tao Xingzhi, Cai Yuanpei, Zhao Shuyu, Chen Heqin, Huang Qisheng, Chen Zhiqian, Yang Xiaochun, Bingzhi, Jiang Wenyu, Zhang Zonglin, Tian Han and many other famous teachers and predecessors have taught here. The school inherits and carries forward the essence of Tao Xingzhi's educational thought, and has formed the school motto of "teaching and doing as one", the school spirit of "teaching people to seek truth and learning to be real people" and the dedication spirit of "coming with a heart and leaving without a blade of grass". The school currently has three campuses: Fangshan, Mochou and Xiaozhuang (Xingzhi Garden), with a total campus area of nearly 1,500 acres. Xiaozhuang (Xingzhi Garden) Campus is the core area of the original site of Mr. Tao Xingzhi's school, the birthplace of life education theory and the place of practice. The school has 15 professional colleges, involving 47 undergraduate majors in nine disciplines such as education, literature, history, economics, law, science, engineering, management, and art. There are 18,000 full-time undergraduate students and more than 130 doctoral and master's students in joint training. The school currently has 1,450 faculty and staff, including 561 with doctoral degrees, 552 with senior professional and technical positions, and more than 120 part-time graduate tutors. The library has a collection of more than 2.25 million books and nearly 6 million electronic books. The school has been ranked first in the Alumni Association's ranking of first-class majors in applied normal colleges in China for the past three consecutive years. The school insists on cultivating first-class undergraduate talents. In the 97 years since its establishment, it has trained and supplied about 200,000 basic education teachers and various specialized talents for the society. Tens of thousands of primary and secondary school special teachers, teaching masters and education managers represented by outstanding alumni such as "National Model of Teaching and Educating" Yang Ruiqing and Wu Shaoping have emerged. In recent years, 9 majors including primary education, computer science and technology, mathematics and applied mathematics, preschool education, tourism management, social work, Chinese language and literature, English, and logistics management have been approved as national first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 10 majors have been approved as provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites, and 7 provincial special brand majors of various types have been approved. The school has won 2 national teaching achievement awards, 1 special prize for deeply participating in the national teaching achievement award (basic education category), 5 provincial teaching achievements (higher education category), 5 provincial teaching achievement awards (basic education category), and 4 excellent teaching teams of the "Qinglan Project" of Jiangsu universities have been approved; 27 courses have been recognized as national and provincial first-class courses, 14 provincial online open courses, 1 provincial course ideological and political construction demonstration course, 2 provincial aesthetic education lecture halls, 3 provincial first-class courses of industry-education integration, and 1 provincial aesthetic education boutique course; 17 provincial textbooks have been approved, 1 second prize for national excellent textbooks has been approved, and 3 textbooks have been selected as the first batch of "14th Five-Year Plan" national planning textbooks for vocational education; more than 30 provincial education and teaching reform research projects have been obtained. In the past two years, students have won nearly 1,000 awards in provincial or second-class or above subject competitions, innovation training plan projects, etc.; the school attaches great importance to the employment of graduates, and has been rated as "A-level colleges and universities for quantitative assessment of employment of college graduates", and has built a career education base for college students in Jiangsu Province. The school is committed to the construction of "Academic Xiaozhuang" and gives full play to the leading role of disciplinary research. In 2022 and 2023, the school released the first domestic teacher education blue book "China Teacher Education Development Report" for two consecutive years, and systematically put forward policy recommendations for promoting the development of teacher education in my country. The school has established a three-disciplinary system with teacher education as the main body and new liberal arts and new engineering as the two wings. It continues to deepen the reform of scientific research systems and mechanisms, improve scientific research management systems, cultivate high-level academic leaders and academic teams, focus on scientific research output capabilities, promote collaborative innovation among government, industry, academia, research and application, and continuously improve comprehensive scientific research strength. A number of high-level scientific research results with important influence have been achieved. In the past five years, the school has added more than 300 scientific research projects at the provincial and ministerial levels or above, including more than 60 national projects, published more than 2,000 high-level academic papers, and the number of articles published in journals included in CSSCI, SCI, SSCI, etc. has increased significantly, and academic influence has continued to increase. The school has won nearly 100 provincial and municipal awards for outstanding achievements in philosophy, social sciences, science and technology, and has built 12 provincial scientific research platforms, including the Jiangsu University Philosophy and Social Sciences Key Research Base and the Jiangsu University Key Construction Laboratory. The school has been approved for 3 provincial key disciplines in the "14th Five-Year Plan" and 14 municipal key disciplines in the "14th Five-Year Plan". 67 people were selected as "Deputy General Manager of Science and Technology of Jiangsu Province", and 100 provincial industry-university-research projects were approved. The school has always adhered to open education, attached great importance to foreign exchanges and international education cooperation, and has established friendly cooperative relations with more than 60 colleges and universities in countries and regions such as the United States, Britain, Australia, Japan, South Korea, and Indonesia. The school has organized Sino-foreign cooperative education projects with Woosong University in South Korea, opened a Chinese department at Indo Nusa University in Indonesia, and has carried out nearly 30 student overseas exchange study programs. The school has trained nearly 5,000 long-term and short-term foreign students from more than 80 countries and regions around the world, and has been rated as "Advanced Collective for International Students in Jiangsu Province" for many times. The school is now a member of the Jiangsu-Hong Kong-Macao University Cooperation Alliance, the Jiangsu-Canada University Cooperation Alliance, the Jiangsu-Korea University Cooperation Alliance, the Jiangsu-ASEAN Higher Education Cooperation Alliance, and the Jiangsu Confucius Institute (International Chinese Education) Working Alliance. It is a Chinese member university of the "China-Arab University 10+10 Cooperation Plan" and the "Chinese Language Education Base" of the State Administration of Overseas Chinese Affairs and the Jiangsu Provincial Overseas Chinese Affairs Office. It hosts overseas Chinese teacher training courses, overseas Chinese youth root-seeking trips, Chinese cultural paradise and other projects all year round, and has a high overseas reputation. Nanjing Xiaozhuang University adheres to the spirit of "great love, dedication, and responsibility", adheres to the deep integration strategy, and actively contributes to local economic and social development. In 2019, the Nanjing Municipal People's Government and the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education signed a contract to jointly build Nanjing Xiaozhuang University to create Jiangsu's leading and first-class primary education and preschool education majors, and build a first-class normal college in the country. In 2021, the first teacher ethics education hall in the country will be built in the Xiaozhuang (Xingzhi Garden) campus. In 2023, Nanjing Xiaozhuang College Xingzhi Garden was awarded the "Traditional Education Base of the Chinese Democratic League". It is currently working hard to build a national teacher ethics education base and a base for the inheritance, practice and innovation of Xingzhi education ideas. Teacher Tao's workstation and Nanjing Primary and Secondary School Student Psychological Assistance Center are the (national) counseling centers for minors' mental health set up by the Central Civilization Office, "National Model Branch for Party Building Work", "National Excellent Volunteer Service Organization", and "National Advanced Unit for Ideological and Moral Construction of Minors". Nanjing Minors Mental Health Research Institute is the first batch of key new think tanks in Nanjing, and the 96111 hotline was rated as the "Most Professional and Reliable Chinese Psychological Hotline". The school actively promotes school-local cooperation, and cooperates with the Social Work Department of the Nanjing Municipal Party Committee, the Nanjing Civil Affairs Bureau and other departments to jointly build the "Nanjing Urban Grassroots Governance College"; cooperates with the Nanjing Municipal Education Bureau to build the "Nanjing Education Think Tank"; and has established multiple social service base platforms such as the Jiangsu Red Cultural Resources Protection and Utilization Research Center. The school has signed strategic cooperation agreements with Nanjing University and other universities in Nanjing, with government departments in various districts of Nanjing, Taixing City, Dongtai City, and with enterprises and institutions such as Jiangsu Educational Science Research Institute, Nanjing Publishing and Media Group, Nanjing Cultural Investment Holding Group, Nanjing Newspaper Media Group, Nanjing Federation of Industry and Commerce, Western Returned Scholars Association, and ZTE Corporation to promote the interconnection of industry, academia, and research and deepen educational exchanges and cooperation. In 2022, the third party congress of the school clarified the school-running positioning of building a "high-level university with distinctive characteristics of teacher education in the new era", and proposed that by 2035, the school will establish a complete system for cultivating bachelor's, master's, and doctoral talents, and strive to build a first-class university in the province, well-known at home and abroad, and a high-level university with an important contribution rate to the development of Nanjing region. On the occasion of the 130th anniversary of Mr. Tao Xingzhi's birth in 2021, the school held a "Seminar on Cultivating New Era 'Great Teachers'", and the main leaders of the provincial party committee sent a congratulatory letter. On the 95th anniversary of the founding of the school in 2022, the school held a development forum, and the Teacher Work Department of the Ministry of Education sent a congratulatory message. In 2023, Vice Chairman Ding Zhongli of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress visited our school and hoped that Nanjing Xiaozhuang University would contribute to the promotion of Chinese-style modernization. Zhu Yongxin, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, pointed out that Nanjing Xiaozhuang University is irreplaceable in the inheritance and innovation of Tao Xingzhi's educational thoughts. During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, the school will adhere to the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, fully implement the Party's education policy, implement the fundamental task of cultivating people with moral integrity, carry forward the spirit of educators in the new era, inherit the essence of Tao Xingzhi's educational thoughts, carry forward the spirit of Tao Xingzhi's great love, dedication and responsibility, strive to cultivate more new people of the times, contribute to the construction of a strong country in education, and make new and greater contributions to accelerating the construction of a strong province in education and promoting the new practice of Chinese-style modernization in Nanjing.
