Huizhou University is located in Huizhou, a national civilized city, a national historical and cultural city, and an important node city in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It is a provincial full-time public undergraduate university, a vice-chairman unit of the National Alliance of New Undergraduate Colleges, a pilot university for the transformation of ordinary undergraduates, a provincial master's degree project construction unit, and a provincial project construction unit for the creation of a national teacher education innovation experimental zone, a provincial university "three-dimensional education" system and mechanism construction pilot unit, and a provincial curriculum ideological and political reform demonstration university. The school was formerly the Guangdong Provincial Huizhou Normal School founded in 1946, upgraded to Huiyang Normal College in 1978, and upgraded to a full-time ordinary undergraduate college in 2000. The school adheres to the school motto of "respecting discrimination, seeking truth and applying", strives to build a high-level applied university with distinctive characteristics in science and engineering and coordinated development of teacher education, and cultivates high-quality applied talents with scientific spirit, humanistic literacy, international vision, and innovative thinking. It is an important talent cradle in the Dongjiang River Basin. The school covers an area of nearly 2,500 acres, with a collection of 4.4801 million books (including electronic documents), and recruits students from more than 20 provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the central government). There are more than 19,000 full-time students, 1,157 full-time teachers, including 104 professors and 263 associate professors; 547 doctors, accounting for 47.28%; 2 specially appointed academicians; 28 top talents such as national outstanding teachers and provincial "teaching masters", and 13 provincial outstanding teaching teams and university innovation teams. The school insists on taking the path of internationalization and has established cooperative relations with nearly 50 universities in 13 countries such as the United States, Japan, and Russia, as well as Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. The university currently has 19 secondary colleges and offers 58 undergraduate majors, including 1 national specialty major, 18 national and provincial first-class undergraduate major construction point majors, 4 majors that have passed the second-level certification of the Ministry of Education for teacher training majors, and 4 majors that have passed the IEET engineering education professional certification; it has won 5 national teaching achievement awards, 4 provincial teaching achievement special awards, and nearly 20 first and second prizes; it has won nearly 100 national and provincial quality courses; it has won 1 of the second batch of new engineering research and practice projects of the Ministry of Education, 4 provincial demonstration industrial colleges, and more than 70 national and provincial practical teaching bases and platforms; in the "Top 300 of the National General Colleges and Universities Student Competition Seven Rounds (2012-2022)", it ranks 220th in the country and 10th in Guangdong Province, and 1st in Guangdong Province among the newly built undergraduate colleges in the country. In the "Top 100 National New Undergraduate Colleges and Universities Student Competition Rankings 2018-2022", it ranks 26th in the country and 2nd in Guangdong Province. The school adheres to high-quality development. It currently has 6 provincial key disciplines, 44 scientific research and innovation platforms at the municipal level and above (1 international cooperation platform, 2 academician platforms, and 19 provincial and ministerial platforms), and 8 scientific research and innovation teams at the provincial and ministerial level and above. In the past five years, it has obtained 1,187 vertical scientific research projects (including 254 provincial and ministerial projects and above), with a total funding of 111 million yuan for scientific research projects; 467 domestic and foreign patents have been authorized (including 169 Chinese invention patents and 5 foreign patents), and 42 patents have been transformed; 23 scientific research awards at the provincial and ministerial level and above (including provincial associations); and 32 large-scale international and domestic conferences have been held. The school insists on serving the local area. In the past five years, it has signed strategic cooperation agreements on industry-university-research cooperation with 142 enterprises and institutions; it has undertaken 609 social commissioned projects and obtained 121 million yuan in funding; it has formed 76 science and technology commissioner teams to serve enterprises and rural revitalization, and one person won the title of "Most Beautiful Science and Technology Volunteer" in the country, and three people won the title of "Excellent Rural Science and Technology Commissioner of Guangdong Province"; the school think tank provided 105 decision-making consulting reports to the government, of which 3 were approved by provincial and ministerial leaders, and 41 were approved by municipal leaders.
